[Jan 18, 2013] SoCal Regionals 2013 Jan. 18-20 Irvine, CA (Irvine, CA)

According to whom?

no i meant im going to be there lol

I miss SoCal - and since i somehow managed to make a cameo in the first photo I think it’s time I made a (re)appearance

There are so many games released this year and unfortunately not all of them can make it to SCR2013.

Those asking for SFxTK, the patch is scheduled to release the week after SCR and we’re opting not to use an obsolete version the scene has been complaining about. Also with the current version, I’ve traveled the country this year and have only seen 12-25 registrants for the current version in many majors. Adding this game to the roster will only create logistical issues such as resources being taken away from other popular titles. Last, comparing the SF25 attendance for SFxTK is not realistic because that was a free event completely sponsored by Capcom and their partners/affiliates.

For SkullGirls, I’ve seen similar support as SFxTK or less across the country. SoCal has the largest local populace for weekly gatherings and the game just didn’t get the support it deserved. We’ve featured it many times on WNF /TRB and appreciate the support it got but in the end, decisions have to be made.

I’ve always preached about supporting the games you love by attending your local scenes events. This is the very reason why certain games get long term competitive exposure and others don’t.

If there is some way we can add anymore games I will definitely try, but we’ve over exhausted our resources as of right now.

Thanks for your understanding!

That’s kinda circular, isn’t it?
People won’t come to tournaments to support games if tournaments don’t regularly HAVE their games.

And, I’m curious to see what the turnout for all these other games will be as compared to the “15-25” entrants that SFxT supposedly gets. I mean, does VF5 regularly get huge numbers across the country? DOA5? SC5?

But, you’re right, the patch is scheduled to release very soon after, so that would take some of the thunder away from vanilla SFxT anyways.

Thanks for the explanation. Will there be a BYOC area at the event so we can run an unofficial side tourney?

Tournament organizers are looking for games with true advocacy on the part of the player base. A few people saying “meh, I guess I’ll sign up for SFxT too” is a lot different than having a community that organizes casuals in someone’s garage, records it, says “ok, let’s all go represent at [major]”, and ups the hype factor. Who is the SFxT community? I only see also-rans from other games who decided to sign up because it’s only $10 per additional game. Besides, how many games do we need to watch Justin blow through to prove he can win on fundamentals :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you know how long its going to take to find out what the standard tournament format is going to be for Playstation All-Stars? And what stages are banned? (If any).

No BYOC stations are planned right now, however we’re scheduling pools to finish early so players can use them as casual stations for the remainder of the day.

Working on it! The game is new and we’re going to feature it on WNF for research!

You are working under the assumption that LU hasn’t put on tournaments in the past for games like SFxT and Skull Girls. While they initially may have had decent turnouts, tourney entrants for weeklies dropped lower and lower and lower as the weeks or months went on. This is a clear indication that the majority of that community’s players have a) moved onto other games, or b) don’t feel like going to tournaments for those games.

So what’s the point of putting on tourneys for games with smaller communities such as this at a major when nobody shows up to the regular tourneys? It’s a risky investment of time and resources to do this if the players don’t show up.

The most effective solution would be to ask or petition LU to be allowed to run a side tournament. Bring your own consoles, games, sticks, players, and start advertising and run your own tournament.

Help us get a Skullgirls side tourney going!

Appreciate the effort good sir =)

Alex asked on the FB group how the PSASBR community thinks we should play the game… here’s my thoughts:

I was very exited to see PSASBR at WNF last week but very disappointed when saw the 1v1 format. The game was created to be played with 4 people and changing that to a 2P game is a huge mistake. Character supers become useless when playing this way since some of the supers are created specially for multiple kills. Also why would you build lv 2 or 3 supers when it’s only one, maybe two kills youll get in a 1v1 and not to mention its super boring to watch and it sucks to run as a tourney.

I personally think this game is to be played in two different ways. The “1v1” comes in the form of “Free For All” timed based. The best player wins in Free For All, if there’s a tie the game automatically goes into Overtime to decide a winner.
The other would be 2v2 but I think its better to have kills and not stock since the game is all about getting kills to get points, avoiding getting killed is obvious. Also there should never be a case where it’s 2v1 because of stock, then it’s back to the 1v1 problem and we’d be playing a different game. I think first to 5 is a good format for 2v2.

My vote is as follows:

(Teams/Tournament)
2v2:
First team to reach 5 kills wins
No Items
Stage hazards are ok (No banned stages as of now)

(Singles/Casual)
Free For All:
Time based
Items are OK
Stage hazards are OK (No banned stages as of now)

Just my .02 cents ^.^

FFA is a stupid random clusterfuck. If that’s how the game is played in tourneys then I don’t want to play the game at all.
