Hello again peeps. i just wanted to stop through and leave a quick reminder about MWC and SBO Qualifiers this weekend. It is being held in TN for the first time this year and will be run by tourney vet Jason Wilson. Tourney info:
Tourney thread is here: (http://shoryuken.com/f7/mwc-sbo-japanese-qual-super-turbo-jun-24-26-fri-sat-sun-nashville-tn-sfae-mvc3-mk9-261348/). I am posting this all over the regional threads so if you are interested/have questions contact me via any of the following methods as it would be nigh impossible to keep up with all of them and I want to make sure I get you all the info you need promptly:
i dont live in OP lol. i live on the northside with all the BS interstates. the reason i said OP was cause i know the area best (unlike the beaches and university area people frequent). theres so much ground to cover in Jville but you really start to see how little is in it for people like us to do. and when there is its usually somewhere way out of the way.
yep :). like i said, i only ask for a close OP (blanding mostly) venue cause i know that part of town and frequent it alot. i couldnt tell you shit about university or beaches though except maybe where Wardogs used to be (RIP).
No, I was saying that you live on the North side of Jax. I do not care where the place is because I have lived on most all sides of town and OP/Flem/Eagle. (Just not the North side and East side) I know my way around this big stupid ass city. I would actually prefer it being near the landing because I enjoy 5 points/Riverside, and could chill out there before going to it. Besides, the landing has nothing for gamers anymore that I know of.
Casbah FTW!!! That new pomegranate flavor makes all beers/wine/chai latté taste great!!
Wow. This is the most I’ve seen Jacksonville updated in a long time. I will say that CEO has definitely given a wakeup call to the Florida community. We seriously have to thank Jebailey for that.
Priest, good idea coming up on the boards for some feedback. I believe you have found some additional sources and you should take your time with this. I would not rush into things with this or else you may end up losing more than you bargained for. My suggestion is to start small (not even a business), have meetups, ANYWHERE, somewhere with space, somewhere that doesn’t charge much. I’d LOVE to be that person to hold some weekly casuals, but unfortunately, I don’t have enough free time to do so. At least, not right NOW.
So I try to plan these tournaments with enough planning time to try to push everyone to get some practice in! Speaking of, Storm Underground 2 is in less than 2 weeks! It’s on July 2nd at it’s at Underground Alley. You can find the details below:

[*]When you say advance notice could you do a weekly deal with that system? We would need to arrange for a time and date and notify the homowners association. I’ll gladly front the $25 weekly if we can get 5 peeps @ $5 to reimburse me. I’ll gladly provide the 3 liter (yes 3 liter) of soda and jar of cheese puffs from the dollar store I just need to find out the stipulations, eg what time they want us to close up, usage restrictions etc.

[*]What night and what games? I would like to say Thursday or Friday nights as I have classes for this semester until Sept. Games right now are MVC3, SFIV:AE and MK9. I have TVC, but I highly doubt the 2 people that still want to level up in this will attend. This looks like coordination is best done with a google doc, will create and post today…

[*]What kind of setup would you be running? I’ve got one PS3 and one XBOX360, one Wii

[*]How many setups? I’ve got one PS3 and one XBOX360, but one TV thats small enough to transport. I’m thinking of buying a evo monitor so when that happens it will be 2 complete setups, but until that time just one.

[*]What would you need help with to get it going? Just scrounge up some peeps and keep it sustainable.

[*]Would they already have T.V.s in there? BYOTV

[*]And other questions. Any other questions just post away.

That’s a good start. I’d be good for it if I had the free time to come. I have 4 ASUS monitors, 2 Xbox 360s and a PS3 with all the current fighting games. I also have 2 tables that I could bring.
We do need something on a normal weekly basis. That’ll keep the scene flowing and going. I have some other venues in mind as far as some biweekly and/or monthly tournaments. I’ll keep you guys posted as always.
Just saying, if the meet ups were on a Thursday, I am sure I could get 3 of the four TvC players to show up as it is a good day for us. we are always down to meet up with peeps and play that game because it takes our brains!!
Friday is not so good but could still be worked out for 2 of the four of us… Just with all of us have 2 or more children, leaving the lady’s at the house on firday nights with all the kids would get old as shit to them real quick.
But yeah, we are down to meet up and help new people get into the game if they are down to learn. Do not count us out so quickly!!
In an effort to unify our community I created a spreadsheet so we can get in touch with each other. Let me know if I should change it in any way. And for the love of jebus, please help me think of another name for the spreadsheet, its incredibly lame.
There’s some spot here in VA called gamepad thats smack dab in the middle of the mall not to far from the food court who does the same thing as far as lan set-ups and whatnot and has been around for a while. They run more than just fighter tourneys ( Like CoD, Reach when it came out etc) to just create revenue, and since most people play those games, it being in the middle of the mall kinda helped the word spread around. And Tilt just closed down right? Perfect spot IMO. People are gonna still think of that hole as a “gaming spot” so it wouldn’t be a bad look. Right next to a bunch of food places and I think Regency is 20 minutes away for just about everyone
But me an Luke were talking about this a while ago and I’m down to help in anyway possible. I can help come up with graphics and do any photo/video work and a bit of site design. I think this is a great idea and I’m excited to see what’ll happen
I think the an important part of making the scene grow is bring out more people to these events. If you got friends who might be interested and dont post or are new to getting into fighting games, bring em out! Car pool! People aren’t gonna just walk in if you tell em about alot of the time, you got to show them the experience. Nothing gets the point across like first hand
Sounds good, i’m down to help too. I dunno what I can be used for, but my main skills are in software dev, but I can do some web development if needed.
Also priest, have you thought about talking to the good folks at the small business development center? They provide you free buisness counseling and maybe hook you up with a SB loan, or at the very least point you in the right direction to get one.
