"Jackpot!" Cody Combo Thread

Damn it…I mean, I was playing off your sarcasm.

Been messing with F.HK -> Ultra 1. Seems like you can link this from right next to the opponent to about back dash range on standing characters for about half the cast, nice punish when characters do something super unsafe that leaves you in a nice position to land the F.HK. Feels like a 1 frame link though, but not too hard to get if you do the motion just before landing and mash punch x3 really quickly a few times.

So I am trying to figure out the max damage combo that everyone does I can’t get the medium to the heavy is it a one frame link or just impossible? My guess is either a counter hit or stun hoping to get some help. Thanks

St. MP > cr. HP is a 1 frame link. You press it pretty quickly after st. MP.

I just started learning AE seriously and I’ve decided to pick up Cody. I see all of the Cody combos, but I was wondering what is a good BnB to learn with him starting off that I can practice? Seemed like there are so many to choose from not sure where to start.

Two basic ones you should grind out:
1 - cr.lp x 2-3, cr.lk xx hp criminal upper. (go to bnb)
2 - s.hp, cr.mp xx hp criminal upper. (easy punish combo)

Eventually you want:
1 - cr.lp x 2-3, cr.mp xx lk ruffian (for the hard knockdown)
2 - f.mp, cl.mp, cr.hp xx hp criminal upper (two 1 frame links, but best punish almost 50 damage more than the basic one above).
3 - cr.lp, cl.mp, cr.hp xx hp criminal upper (best punish if you need to start off a light).

Not really combos per se, but stuff you’ll need to get down as well
1 - f.hk, mk ruffian
2 - hk ruffian, fadc, f.hk, ex criminal upper
3 - comboing after f.mp (usually cr.lk xx mk ruffian since it’s the easiest).

  • I should mention that regarding the basic bnb above, some people do cr.lp x 2-3, **cr.mp **xx hp criminal upper. You can do that as well, but often it does less damage than with cr.lk because the pushback of cr.mp makes the first hit of criminal upper wiff.

It has to be done pretty fast. Much faster than cr.mp to hp upper

You’re probably chaining the cr.lk from cr.lp. If you’re familiar with combos and what chaining means just slow down the last cr.lk, it’s one of the easiest links possible with something like a 3-4 frame window.

So can anyone help me out in selecting the ultra?
I’ve checked over the forums but I really can’t decide. Most pro players (i’ve noticed) stick with u2 but can someone explain its applications? All I see ultra1 being good for is combos but then again thats great. Can’t really find too many reasons to use u2. I’d appreciate any advice on the selection.

U2 is generally better because it not only punishes a lot of unsafe moves but it also can be used in a variety of counter-hit setups.

U1 is good too but since you have to combo into it, the damage is scaled. Then again ex.zonk fadc u1 does great damage but at the cost of three bars.

Both are great ultras to be honest so you should just choose whatever you can land the most. I personally pick U2 in most of my matches because I find it’s more versatile.

The dust from U2 can also be used to chip your opponent out, or to KO them at the end of a juggle where you don’t have meter for EX Criminal Upper or you want to save it. The dust will also connect after raw EX Zonk anywhere on the screen. I prefer U1 myself, but I think most people here would agree U2 is better in the majority of match-ups.

U1 I feel is better in a few matches (Rufus and maybe Cammy), but even then U2 is a better ultra. U2 can punish so many things U1 cannot. When you start getting to the next level of Cody (counter hits and such), U2 has so many set ups that dont require meter or just uses one bar. It isn’t like comboing into ex zonk is going to happen often, and a combo into hk ruffian is going to be scaled pretty heavily. An anti air ruffian is a different story of course.

When you factor chip potential, counter hits, ex rocks, fireball punish, punishable moves, dust juggle, etc., it’s hard to consider u1 to be all that good in comparison. Again, in certain matches it makes sense, and probably as a beginner it does too. Otherwise, U2 all day.

u2 dust can also combo after a LP CU or f.hk.

cr. LP, cl. MP, cr. FP xx Criminal Upper
It’s especially good after crossup (or not?) j. MK.

It’s simply the best hit confirm. It’s just a difficult one. But it’s especially deadly once mastered.
I’ve sarted using it online more regularily and rounds don’t last as they used to haha!
