I've covered wars y'know - Frank West thread

The more I see from Frank West, the more I think he’s going to be another one of those characters that will be tough to use… kinda like C.Viper or MODOK. Very heavy execution character, I like it.

Anyway, am I the only one thinking that his shopping cart attack is only available as an Assist? I haven’t seen the shopping cart attack on point. I’m wondering how Lvl5 Frank is going to be… I’ll have to wait until Maximillian’s assist me, these days that I’ll have to wait will be so long.

Really? He seems super low execution to me which is why I like him. No ROM combos, no fly/unfly, no rapid-fire Seismo cancels, no tri-dash. He seems the be more on par with Cap with very basic tools that should be extremely easy to learn. The trick isn’t going to be execution, it’s going to be figuring out a way to land the first hit.

I’m not sure… I’ve got this feeling all the sudden when I first came to this thread (today) with everyone talking about photos experience levels, zombies… it’s out of control.

What I mean by high execution is that, well, sometimes you’ll have to do long combos in order to greatly level up depending on the matchup. So call assists, drink in middle of combos or not, do some multi-hitting specials, and so on… but as you said, it’s going to be how to land the first hit, so it might be that as well.

EDIT: Basically, if you go for a long combo and mess up your camera followup, it’ll be really bad…

He was the C Viper of TvC, one of the most high executional character of that game. It’s almost certain that he’ll be another high execution character too in this game, in fact considering how his moves change properties upon level up (from hard knockdown to ground bounce, etc) there’s a good chance you will need to learn different b&bs for each level. That could mean he is going to make Dante’s combos look like a stroll in the park.

I doubt that. He doesn’t seem to need complex inputs or very fast movements (MODOK). He seems like he won’t be easy to play, but I don’t think he’ll be execution heavy at all.

Frank is really only comparable to Viper or MODOK in terms of difficulty to play effectively, not in terms of execution. Getting out of Lv.1 seems to be a top priority for all FW players, and won’t be easy. Things get better as he levels up, though.

This is exactly right.

Maybe we’re using a different definition for the term “execution.” To me execution means a high degree of manual dexterity and accuracy, typically with numerous rapid-fire inputs or extremely tight links. Magneto’s best ROM combos are very high-execution because the super-jump back, air-dash down-forward, and numerous :h: inputs happen extremely rapidly and have very little room in between for error. By contrast, Wolverine’s b&b combo is extremely low-execution as the timing and spacing are very forgiving and the inputs can be entered at a leisurely pace.

What you’re describing sounds to me like a matter of knowledge. Frank may have a lot of b&b’s but they all seem like they’re going to be very A B C 1 2 3 straightforward. Based on what we’ve seen so far, I’m fairly certain I’ll be able to pick up a majority of his combos after a few tries. I still am nowhere close to pulling off crazy ROM combos and bold canceling is always dicey for me at best.

Pretty much. He’ll need extra help from his assists to get out of Level 1, but once he gets momentum he’ll be able to tear people up.

I’m sooooo glad that a 4-hit combo and a camera shot is all you need to get the hell out of there. I’m inclined to think that his command roll will make a huge difference in how good he is. Ground bounce on knee drop is nice, too.

Frank is definitely going to need assists to be effective.

I’m not sure if he should be a point character, but I guess you have to since you’ve got to level up. Making him an anchor would be a good idea if you’re in lvl4, but it would take a while to get that far. Not to mention that he needs specific assists for him to level up faster in the first place. It’s times like this where I wish Chris’ flamethrower was available as an assist >_<".

Early assumption: With that in mind, I think that only some people will find a way to play him properly, while others will think he’s complete garbage… but I think he’s gonna end up being played at tourneys sometimes, he’s probably going to have a Spencer “factor” to it. My thoughts anyway, so don’t take it seriously.

Did anyone consider using THC’s for Frank, like doing Dante’s Million Dollar’s then hitting camera shot?

I don’t know why but I find this bit rather amusing.

I’m not sure how I feel about Frank in regards to leveling up and drinking. I think that he’ll be solid paired with some good assists but the original team that I was thinking of using with isn’t going to work.

Hailstorm (Mashed) DHC into frank Xfactor Photo. Insta level 5. NEXT?

I don’t think so. I think the only super that would do enough hits is maxed out Hyper Psionic Blaster, at 100 hits. Then it causes a hard knockdown and you can just OTG.

Seriously? Last I checked, mashed Hailstorm doesn’t go anywhere neat 100 hits.

Oh yeah, 5 is 100… Still that’d be like lvl 3 and a half or 4 right? Mashing doubles the hits, so how many hits does hailstorm do?

Hailstorm (Mash), DHC into Ammy element thingy (Mash), DHC into Frank X factor Photo? That must be at least 70 hits.

(EDIT)

Look i’m not good at math and i can’t test anything right now.

What about Super Skrull’s INFERNO, that does a helluva lot of hits.

That would do 100 fully mashed, I think.

Dunno, popping XF and using 2-3 meters just to level up faster just doesn’t strike me as a practical idea. There are less expensive ways (I think) to power him up.
