"I've been waiting for this moment" The Akihiko Thread

You make some great points there, Starslicer. I would recommend that any mid-level player hoping to up their game takes heed to what you’ve said in regards to figuring out patterns. Every player, regardless of skill, has habits, or routines they run through. Maybe it’s that one frame trap they always seem to catch you with, or that one ambiguous cross-up that you’re too late to react on. Don’t forget your own habits can be read, as well. If you’re always getting grabbed, learn why and when they go for it, and prepare a tech next time. But also be ready to read their reactions to your learning.

I admit, I tend to get befuddled when someone is figuring out my style, but that is part of getting better. Learn what your flaws are and how your opponent will take advantage. Even if you can’t eliminate a weakness, you can turn it into a strength if you know what they will do.

That’s part of the beauty of Akihiko play. Learning when and where to strike, and taking that opportunity when it arises for huge damage. Good stuff.

Indeed, indeed. I don’t want anyone to take what I say wrong, because I still obviously get blown up sometimes by the things I say to avoid, but once you get the read down, you can usually take the match. And I think that’s something everyone must pay attention to, so they’ll know how to handle the person they’re facing and change the pace of battle.

Okay so, this is a video I uploaded…really low quality since I had to capture it with my PS Vita, but I just want to help others so I thought i’d post this in here.

I also have some matches, since I’ve started recording them for a couple of friends who want me to teach them how to use Aki (I dont know why, I don’t think I’m all that good really).
If anyone is interested in watching those, I’ve yet to upload them into youtube, but I can do that.
Hope this helps people out there .-.

I do want to ask something to the other akis.

How the hell do you get out of Slabs’ freaking command grab/jump loop thingie? The one where, if you jump to avoid the persona’s command grab, she jumps, deals a quick dirty combo, and since you cant block right after jumping, you WILL get hit. Then after getting hit, she just knocks you down and repeats the process endlessly. I swear, the only SAFE way I’ve managed to escape with was by doing maziodyne one more cancel, or Bursting.

That’s just plain wrong.

don’t ground tech right away, tech a bit later…but she can counter this still by doing 2A right before her jump A.

The thing about the setup is that the air combo only does like 1K damage. You can hope for her to mess up the air combo as well, it’s better than eating the throw which will lead to a combo that does about 3K damage.

How the hell am I supposed to beat Kanji? It feels like there’s nothing I can do

I can try to help you, but I can’t assure you anything man.

For one, I’m a very offensive Akihiko player, and I base most of my game in resets, punishes, and instilling fear of pushing buttons to my enemies.

So with that out of the way, my Kanji matchups usually go with me baiting him the hell out of his grabs and R action. My most typical move is running straight ahead, and on reaction I either do an evasive action (if he does a st. C, e action nets you a fatal st. B) or jumping back + using caesar’s j.C. It is rare for a kanji to use their anti air grab if you run straight to them, but if they start noticing you are doing far too many jump back + j.C, you can always start doing different things, like backstepping.

Anyway, IF:

[]Caesar’s j.C hits him off of his grab - This nets you a niiice counter hit, which I usually punish with a very basic combo (killrush A, duck C, corkscrew A/B depending on height). If he was on the corner though, you can go for even more damage (killrush A, duck C, R action, st. B, j.B, st.B, cr.B, super jump, j.A, j.BxxAssault Dive A) or (killrush A, duck C, R action, AA sweep, killrush A, duck C, corkscrew A, cyclone uppercut… there’s a bunch of things you can do, you can look at one of my combo videos to get ideas if you’re not sure)
[
]Caesar’s hit gets blocked by his R action - This is my favorite, you can use when you land a killrush A (counter!) duck C, R action, dash xx st. B, j.B xx assault dive, and as soon as you touch the ground, charge your B hook which, if the kanji is scared of pushing buttons by now, you’ll get a nice guard break reset, again you can do several things from here, look at my combo video or experiment!
[]Caesar’s hit is blocked - You can either OMC if you have the SP and do another j.C - most kanjis wont see that coming, or if you DID THE JUMP BACK right, you’re safe, unless they do a st.C, which you on reaction can either use an EX parry to counter, or an evasive action - again, from an e action you can get a nice fatal counter combo.
[
]You decided to backstep, and he grabs the aaaair - Same situation as caesar’s hit gets blocked by his R action. killrush A, duck C, R action, and rape some chair maniac’s ass.

My best tip is to learn how to efficiently do small air dashes. Also, if you are desperate and he hits you with his R action, dont forget your thunder fists will take the paralyze away. If you on wake up did a double uppercut, and he did his R Action, again, go STRAIGHT into your thunder fists - THE D VERSION, C VERSION WILL NOT WORK - and you’ll be able to net him a nice counter hit.
If he keeps jumping all “LOOK AT MY CHAIR BRAH, LOOK AT IT!” then you can always start reacting in two ways:
[LIST]
[]Parry that chair into corkscrew, he wants to show you his chair, you show him your fist
[
]Again, jump back, and show him caesar’s sword.

I hope this helps!
