The idea is that these remakes are to allow a new generation to experience what we did years ago. Why do you think Disney and other companies keep re-releasing the same stuff only to tack on a few extras?
I proudly own that GCN promo disk of OoT/Master Quest and still play my LA DX game each year.
You do realize that all of those but one were on handheld systems, right? What they were able to do with them is much more limited than what can be done on a system.
Considering this is on a current gen system now, there’s no telling what they’re capable of doing.
In every example I gave (with the exception of Links Awakening DX), the console the remake was made in was significantly more powerful than the system the original came from, and with physical media that can hold much more data to boot.
Nintendo’s decisions not to add (or provide very little) new gameplay content on their remakes is not at all based on hardware limitation.
Again, I’m not saying that Nintendo is not going to add significant new content, but if history is of any indication, it is very likely that they will not. And I’m sure that is Eiji Aonuma is pressed on the issue, he’ll give the same response he gave for why Ocarina of Time 3DS has no new gameplay content: he wants to maintain the spirit of the original and that making too many changes would ruin that (sic).
Unfortunately at this moment it says $60 on our preorder lists. This can and hopefully will change…I’m not going to outright say I refuse to buy this game again at $60 DESPITE the extra effort that is going into it. Nintendo is actually putting more effort into releasing their games then just doing and quick and dirty HD upres port and I appreciate that. It’s really going to come down to how this game looks in motion and what the gameplay changes are. I’d happily probably pick up the game at the $50-$40 range though but at $60 I’m going to be a bit more reluctant.
In reality though it’s a Nintendo first party title and it’s Zelda. While there are going to be a few who are going to be off put by it…there are still going to be a large chunk who will drop that $60 on it without hesitation.
To somewhat aide your argument, I will throw out a few other remakes you missed such as the various GC to Wii games that were ported with Metriod Prime Trilogy being the only one to get a significant update via pseudo trophies that were added along with Wii controls to the first games. Every Nintendo collection game from Super Mario All-Stars to the most recent Kirby Anniversary collection has had minimum updates.
The few games that have been remade that have received more content would actually be the GBA or DS port of Kirby’s Adventure call Nightmare in Dreamland (I think hard to remember), Kirby Ultra Star (remake of Kirby Super Star with more content) . Nintendo may add more content or they may go for a quick and dirty port, we will see as they did mention they will be making changes to the game play and we can only hope that they are improvements.
