SNK… really isn’t very widely known in the states. ^^; Most of the people I knew in college heard of Street Fighter and to a lesser extent Darkstalkers but had no clue what SNK was at all.
…course, that someone at shoryuken.com where people know of Capcom vs SNK are wouldn’t know who Mai Shiranui is is quite strange.
I haven’t played Capcom vs. SNK before, although I have heard of Fatal Fury. Have never played it, but do know of the character “Terry Bogard.” I’m only really at the Shoryuken Forum for the comics :).
Maybe I would recognize Mai if I saw a picture of her, but the name seriously does not ring a bell.
Edited: To answer GoldenDragon’s question: No, I was born and raised in the USA :).
Chunners is definetly more popular than Mai. But Cammy? Shes more popular than Morrigan alright, but she only got a decent place in Capcoms pool thanks to Cammyfan… :lol: Cammy is (like Morrigan), a character more known with the hardcore crowd.
Casual players stopped playing SF2 around Turbo Hyper > SSF2. Most people have trouble remembering T.Hawk or Dee Jays names. Cammy is more popular than those two because a) shes a hot chick and b) shes in most crossover games.
In the end…
Chunners = first female fighter
Mai = first “hot” female fighter
Both Mai and Morrigan are of the “revealing” kind. Capcom jumped on the “sexy” bandwagon with Super SF2 and DS (and they almost made Lilith a hermaphrodite years later - crazy stuff).
i would definately want that poster. i hav friends who are sf fans who would kill for that poster. as long as its not as expensive as the batman hush 3-pg-gatefold posters, it’ll b the focal point of my room
i think focus on mai shiranui has been a bit much. its almost quite scary…
