One time I was ordering something at the local pizza/sub place where I live. And in the middle of taking my order, the person behind the counter stops what they are doing and answers the phone to place a takeout order. A few seconds later, somebody else behind the counter takes my order so I start over. But for a while I wondered if my order was going to be placed twice since the person on the phone was more than halfway done with mine.
Its bad enough when I’m in a fast food joint and somebody is taking a drive-thru order through the headset, but they are leaning against the counter and looking in the general direction of the customers, so for a moment it looks like they are talking to me. But the former was just bizarre to me.

It’s not really proper to abandon you in the middle and take another order, however, take-outs are a fucking pain in the ass because you have to take the order when they call. They could have ignored the phone, but if they’re designated as the take-out person, they’d probably catch shit for it.

That’s kinda odd. Whenever I go somewhere, the person behind the counter ignores the phone completely and lets me finish. I thought *that *was common practice O_o or maybe it’s just common courtesy?
God forbid you use common sense and say you don’t want your order placed twice.
If it’s a chinese restaurant, they will not give a fuck.

It’s usually customary for them to answer and the phone and tell the person they will be with them in a minute, then finish taking your order.
