I really wish they would do more with some of the other characters even if they had to do magic arcs or make bullshit reasons for Goku/Vegeta to have to sit out. Going back and re-watching the original Dragonball it really made me miss the adventure aspect of the old show and how certain characters are now just there to watch Vegeta and Goku be super duper strong.
That was kinda the whole point of the ToP Recruitment Arcs. Some characters even got some shine in the ToP itself too, like Master Roshi.
Watching the old DBZ movies, World’s Strongest and Dead Zone still have the best choreography in the entire series, real martial arts. DBS Broly a distant 3rd, not to say it was bad tho
Those two movies were coming off the heels of the original Dragon Ball which IMO has the best choreography. DBZ fights became started to get away with well choreographed sequences and traded them for ki attacks or just cheap “speed streaks” and concussive impact explosions.
It’s a joy to see Roshi kick ass in Worlds Strongest too.
@Darc_Requiem indeed, original DB is quite underrated, from a story and fighting standpoint. I ended up watchin it all after finishing DBZ and came to appreciate the hell out of it. Toriyana used to be way better at using his side characters, if he could get back to that, but with current Powe levels of Super…
Goku vs the henchman in dead zone and world’s strongest are OD.
And of course you have the best kamehameha in worlds strongest
And best piccolo in dead zone
Need ocean dub though
I was just about to say that Ocean dub of those movies was superior but Funi wasn’t bad. Ocean nailed the characters tho, and they left the original Japanese sound in
How can you guys watch dubs eww. Jap with subs or bust (unless you understand japanese then no subs needed I guess). Hmm Goku SSJ3 vs Janemba fight is pretty cool albeit short
They’re both infinitely cheaper and easier to reuse. It got to a frankly obnoxious point in the ToP arc because of how constant the action is.
There is absolutely no way in hell I’m watching subs even for a second when dub is available.
I despise Goku’s JP voice. A lot of them are way too high-pitched tbh, I don’t like Vegeta’s JP voice either.
English dubs are corny as hell tho. Ive watched dbz in english spanish (not from spain but for south america) and jap and i like subs the better
Ditto on Goku JP voice can’t stand it. Still the best English dub for me is Yu Yu Hakuho, DBZ would be second.
Certain characters I like in Funimation dub like Cell and Buu.
Original Japanese I like Freeza (Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho…), 17, and 18.
World’s Strongest may have some of the coolest fight choreography out of all the movies, but the movie itself is just a nothingburger. You really aren’t missing out on much if you just skip the thing. Same with Broly Second Coming (only worth it to see Videl in that dress and Family Kamehameha) and Bio-Broly.
Bio Broly Id agree 100%. Is actually better to never see it. Second coming tho has its cool moments. Gohan vs Broly warm up is pretty good animation wise.
Honestly I love that Bio-Broly is so unoriginal they even repeat the Kamehameha trio, except instead of Son Family now it was Trunks/Goten/Krillin. Like yeah right, as if Krillin’s power was high enough to add to the blast and make the giant goo Broly explode
I’m pretty sure I haven’t watched a single DB movie except DBS Broly.
And even then, I was salty af because the trailers spoiled every single fight in the movie.
Like seriously, couldn’t they keep Gogeta under wraps? Really?
Volt damn near every anime intro in existence spoils the anime. Hell anime intro’s spoiling the anime is a meme at this point. The Japanese don’t seem to care about spoilers as much as other cultures.
Yeah, but you can skip the intro while you’re watching the final product.
A trailer is supposed to actually hype you up for the movie but if it tells you the one twist of the whole movie, there ain’t much left to watch but the actual action.
And Broly vs Frieza was mostly off-screen, for crying out loud! That’s false advertisement!
There were some mixed signals with that movie at first they kept a lot under wraps. Then the month before they have a special screening which basically features Brolly and Gogeta first appearing which everyone took as the announcement that Gogeta would show up and then yeah the trailer just confirming everything afterwards.
But Japan has different standards for this stuff, literally half the anime and toku live action shows I have watched in my life where they have previews spoil stuff.
Edit: Hell if you ever watch the original Legends of Galactic Heroes, don’t watch the previews or the closing credits barely veiled spoilers all the time.
