Well, as previously stated before, the series was supposed to end after the Freeza/Frieza saga (BTW, DBZ came out at around the same time as Batman & Robin, hence FUNimation/Saban spelling it the way they did).
Thus, Goku was supposed to be the one and only Legendary Super Saiyan. However, since the series was continued, things like making Vegeta, Trunks, Gohan, et al Super Saiyans came up.
Then, the series was supposed to be all about Gohan, what with him being the first to go SSJ2 and Goku dying again, but the fans wouldnât have that, so Goku came back to life and went SSJ3.
Then, Dragon Ball (Z) ended, and the fans wouldnât have THAT, hence the abomination known as DBGT.
So, to all of you who complain that companies donât listen to the fans, see what happens when they do?
We mean AMERICAN fans. I would have thought that was obvious. Shit, if japanese companies listened to the fans their television would be ALL hentai/ecchi anime, and needledick theater (porn).
Well, think about it: Why would a Japanese company care about what an American consumer thinks unless the product is intended to be international?
For example, Guile was put in Street Fighter II because Capcom wanted to âappeal to the American playerâ (partly because SF1 was more popular in the US than in Japan, though before SFII, Iâd never heard of Street FighterâŚ)
However, mangaka and anime companies produce stories and shows that would appeal to Japanese consumers. Name me one anime made with the intent to be international. (On the flip side, name me one US movie, TV show or comic thatâs intended to be internationalâŚ)
Also, wouldnât most US companies listened to their fans, wouldnât we also get bombarded by porn?
Wouldnât we get an episode of Family Guy where Brian actually gets to nail Lois?
Wouldnât there be an episode of Friends where Monica, Rachel and Phoebe just wrestle around in baby oil (and donât speak)?
Wouldnât have Samuel L. Jackson completely pwned the Star Wars prequel trilogy, causing A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi to instantly become non-canon?
Wouldnât Freakazoid get more than 2 seasons?
Yeah, it is a bastard move for a 40 year old guy to doâŚbut for Goku, itâs believeable since he does have that child-like personality.
Goku was always like that. He agreed to marry Chi Chi thinking marriage was just an event where he could eat a lot, and when he found out what marriage actually was he was like âAh, fuck it - I canât go back on my promise!â Then Kami tries to make him into the new God of the Earth, and Goku was like âHell no, I donât want that responsibility!â
Despite becoming so damned powerful, at heart Goku never really grew up at all. You watch Dragonball, and itâs Goku as a kid. You watch DBZ, and itâs the exact same Goku, just with a bigger body. Thatâs one of the things that the dubbing kinda failed to capture.
Too true. I really liked the way they were equals with Piccolo getting the upper hand then #17 etc. Hated the way that Cell walked on and dealt with them both but #17 showing respect to Piccolo topped it off.
HmmmâŚfor all this time, every since I learned about the Brian Drummond voice actor, I always thought people were talking about the older-sounding, Funimation version that I remember.
Weird.
Anyway, itâs nice to see this thread around, even if I canât take Dragonball Z seriously anymore.
Dragonball, however, is the truth. I remember trying to stay home as a kid sometimes and watch in on what used to be UPN.
I swear, if pink wasnât such an emetic color, Iâd probably have searched for and bought a Mercernary Tao âKill Youâ vest/jacket by now.
Oh, by the way, this GnPN2yOup9E]whole post has been an excuse to link to Kajekotunâs DBZ parody-related videos, which are part of the reason that I canât take DBZ seriously anymore. Kajekotun is the guy that made âOver 9000!â so popular. Whether you know who that is or not and whether youâve gotten tired of âOver 9000!â, I would
Especially when they were punching each other so hard that their fists were bulging out of their back. And the double Alpha Counters where they both were spinning.
It was sweet when Piccolo surrounded 17 with energy balls, and 17 was like âWtf are you doinâŚoh shit!â and had to make the energy shield to protect himself.
Holy jesus. I didnât even realize this site was still around. VegettoEX has to be about 30 by now.
I remember back with the site was just called âVegettoEXâs Home Pageâ or something like that. It used to be mainly just a big archive of RealAudio music from the show, and some other stuff. Seems like when he first moved to SREanime, everything started changing.
Man, you blew my mind. I thought all those old sites were long gone.
Its funny cause i came across some Japanese, uncensored DBZ fights on you tube the other day. You know, ones that feature the good original dbz music and sound effects and i was like âdamn, this is fuckin goodâ. Especially the buu era high budget shit.
The watered down shit on cartoon network had me hating the series so hard. They dont even play the full sound effects in the English dub! Some of the most badass noises too âTHWAT THWAT THWAT PHSHING!!!â
Japanese subbed, DBZ is one of the best animes ever, donât care what anyone says. Fuck the haters.
Nope, there are still some very oblique references to Japanese culture. Like Brock eating those rice ball thingies in one ep (the dub called them âdonutsâ).
Iâv said it before, Iâll say it again: the dubbed dbz fights sound like 2 guys fucking. Not just cartoon network. It was universal for the english dub.
