That’s almost exactly what I’m thinking, except they can be beaten to near-death, just not killed. Zenkai bonuses and level-ups out the ass.

Problem is, the injuries would have to be severe enough to require immediate (or almost immediate) medical attention or they really will die, mostly in the form of a rejuvenation tank or a Senzu Bean. I know there weren’t any tanks, and I don’t know if they had any Senzus either. Besides, the boost the Zenkai gives tends to vary a lot. It took Vegeta two Zenkais during/after Ginyu to get wrecked by Frieza, while it took Goku one in that time frame to hold serve with Final Form 2.5% (I know he said 1%, but using math, it was actually 2.5% or around that. Not much of a difference, but meh).
Power jumps up TO Goku getting to Namek were acceptable. Personally, I believed Goku’s Kaioken flex in front of Ginyu was showing off his max ability, period. Which would go perfectly well with him training at 100 times earth’s gravity. Well, sorta, I mean he only trained a few days in that gravity and mastered it, which seems hard to believe (but this is a fictional story).
The power jumps after Goku arrives on the planning are just jokes. Vegeta gets his ass waxed by Zarbon, gets a boost to in the mid 30s level, then an ass beating by Rekoome, to put him somewhere maybe a little north of 40K. THEN he’s capable of locking horns with Freeza and blowing up Freeza’s scouter? Doesn’t fit well to me. Nevermind the fact that he was going berserker on a near fatally injured Ginyu who just laughed at his beating he dishes out.
Then Krillin shoots him through with a blast, he gets healed by Dende, then he’s able to “seemingly” take on a final form Freeza. Also, Goku’s healing from being beat up by Vegeta while they fought Freeza, maybe it’s due to his already tremendous power level but to make that big of a jump to also be able to fight a final form Freeza.
However, in the anime, King Kai states Goku was using his Kaioken attack the entire time against final form freeza, so maybe that would explain why Goku could hang with Freeza. That was in response to the dead Z fighters stating Goku still had his KK ability to compete against Freeza at 50% his max output. We never saw it used and figured Goku was waiting for the right time, even when he was getting his ass beat by 50% Freeza. However when Kai is explaining Goku’s dilemma, we see scenes of Goku lighting it up and still getting punched in the face. That’s how I interpreted it anyway, from the very first punch thrown between Goku and Freeza, Goku was using the KK technique at key times to get the upper hand.
Senzu, of course, since anything a healing tank would probably get destroyed by fallout.

You know after watching those early fights of Nappa vs. the Z fighters, I have to wonder, do you think if Tien had both his arms he would’ve survived and still teamed up with Piccolo and Krillan? I think that definitely would’ve changed things significantly.

Well Goku did die plenty of times. From the ones you posted Cell and I can’t remember who killed him before he fought Vegeta. I don’t think he could have died against Buu since he was already dead. I haven’t seen any episodes in a while, so I might be wrong on that last part, plus I believe Goku might’ve been stronger than Buu’s first form.

No, he wouldn’t have. He would’ve still gone off the deep end seeing Chiaotzu blow up, which means he still would’ve done a full-power Tribeam, which would kill him anyway.

What I’m stating is if the opponents before Buu would’ve not played around with Goku, him and the Z-fighters will all be at the check-in station in other world. Also, Piccolo killed Goku when they were trying beat Raditz and you can die twice and never come back again in DBZ. When they have the halo over their heads, I call that the sub-death state (dead but not). If you die within the sub-death state, then it’s a wrap for you. You’ll be a memory.

I too was using SD/Taka for the eariler DBK episodes but then they fell behind and I found freeze subs which got me caught up. Of crouse now that they’re a quarter of the way through the cell saga they call it quits.
and most other groups don’t have a high priority of DBK because its not new and just a redo of a series that we’ve all seen before. sigh
lame about freezesubs…ppl post when you find a subber that picked it up. I guess all we can do is wait for taka to catch back up…sighs
the only other place that has it is a streaming site but their subs are hit and miss. Like they literally forgot to sub half the episode.
Sad to hear about Freeze-subs but I hope the members do well from now on =)
