Is there a difference between cr.lp and cr.lk?

was messing with ryu and ken and i notice why do most people do cr.lk cr.lp into shoryuken wrather than cr.lp cr.lp into shoryuken since i found that that has more dammage.

cr.lk has to be blocked low, while cr.lp can be blocked standing or crouching. For instance, an empty jump into a cr.lk can throw people off.

O i see thanks

It’s to condition them to block low. You keep using c.lk after a jump in or on their wakeup, they’ll start to block low without really thinking about it. Once they’re conditioned like this, you can start mixing in overheads. Or, like Shady said, it’s also good in a situation where your opponent is conditioned to block high, like when you jump at them.

In addition to what they said, linking a move off a jab or short can be easier with one rather than the other (depending on frames and hit boxes.) For instance, I find it much easier to do cr. lp > cr. mp than it is to do cr. lk > cr. mp. Depending on who your character is, you’ll want to experiment or read frame data if you’re up to it. For instance: my bnb Rose combo is cr. lp. > cr. lk. > cr. mp. xx lk. Soul Spiral. I find it much easier to link the cr. mp. off the cr. lk than it is to off the cr. lp.

  1. Crouching LK is a true low attack, it HAS to be blocked crouching.

This goes for every character in the cast (I can’t think of any character that violates this rule). This makes c. LK the preferred crouching light attack for working into a mixup or trying to start a combo raw on a neutral opponent, no counter hit or anything. This goes double if your character has an easy link into another normal from c. LK.

  1. Crouching LP is a “mid” attack (in the 2D fighting sense, not the 3D fighting sense), which means that it can be blocked either standing or crouching.

In exchange for this limitation many characters’ c. LP attacks are often (a) faster than their c. LK attacks, i.e. a 3-frame c. LP vs. a 4-frame c. LK. (b) give more frame advantage on hit or block than c. LK attacks, which is important for determining what safe blockstrings and links your character can do, or © both.

Understanding those two basic rules is a good way to figure out for yourself how good your character’s crouching light attacks really are and how they might be used.
