Is the online really that bad?

Honesty, I think that playing player matches is a mistake if you’re a beginner. At lower levels, you get way more outmatched in player matches than you do in ranked matches. It isn’t until you get better that player matches become more fair.

THIS!!! I came here specifically to post this. Stay the fuck away from player matches. Infinites, resets, hard to block mixups, and a shitload of Tods, that’s right, after 1 hit be prepared for your character to fucking die.

It’s pretty bad. My connection isn’t the best to begin with too so I feel it double.

My best connections are always UK or The netherlands where I’m from. Also depends on your characters, all time strict/meaty setups and such will suck doing online but if you play Hulk Vs like Dante the difference is massive in play enjoyability.

Better than no Marvel though, so give it a shot. In the beginning when you start learning the game it annoys you less anyways since you won’t be doing super strict timing stuff yet so you can just have fun. Its a fun game and cheap at the moment. Find a local scene when you get better

Rules of Online Marvel:
1: Do not talk about Online Marvel (positively)
2: Add about 5-10 frames on everything you can imagine
3: Expect the worst
4: Hope for the best
5: Losses mean nothing unless you learn from them
6: There is always some asshat better than you
7: There are always 10 scrubs worse than you
8: Only play matches at 4-5 bars, if possible
9: You will hate Hulk, Nova, Wesker, Task, Dante, Ryu, Captain America, Doom, Doormammu, Phoenix, Sentinel, Wolverine, Vergil, Frank, Strider, Akuma, Ammy, Haggar, Spencer, Wesker, and Zero at some point. As you get better, you shall cross them off one by one
10: It is always darkest before the dawn of a new win streak

Online marvel looks a hell of a lot better after you’ve played injustice online, that’s for damn sure. The only things I personally have issues with online is Spencer and hulk. Everything else is manageable.

Forget UMvC3, forget Injustice, until you’ve suffered through KOFXIII’s netcode you have yet to understand true pain.

Anyway, use matchmaking threads. Yes, Marvel’s matchmaking system is inherently flawed because not everyone plays ranked and there are people with 85% win rates from player matches but hold the “Beginner” ranks. This is less of a problem once you have experience (I use “Any” for the rank level preference) but is obviously frustrating for beginners. Thus, use the damn matchmaking threads. You will find someone at least in your general area for a better connection and a skill rank closer to yours for better practice. I’m not gonna say this again.

Best way to play online or shit offline for that matter against not so good players is this.
Pick a character with a REALLY good button likely this is H. If you start getting combo’d MASH it.
As soon as they fuck up their combo throw them or TOD them with your own. If that doesn’t work
jump at them repeatedly hitting H.

High class shit.

And if you think KOFXIII’s netcode is ass, try playing Samurai Showdown II.

…hey I really like that game.

If you can’t play offline, try the matchmaking forums, if you can play offline, don’t bother with offline.

#1 use of Log Trap assist.

what everyone else said…plus, teabag > taunt when you win. If you get hate mail, responding by calling them a virgin works every time.
