Actually it is, you’re thinking of a different meaning that isn’t something funny. What’s funny (not really) is how homosexuals get upset when you say a game is gay as if homosexuals have ownership of the main definition of the term when it wasn’t the first meaning to begin with and was just an evolution of slang. A word is just a word. The context, how you say it, how much you mean it, is what matters. What’s annoying is feminists calling themselves feminists and others misogynists for the sole purpose of justification for being able to be a bitch and shitting on others.
There are some things you can’t no homo, your post would be one of them.
didn’t read the thread, but as a person that was almost raped… i gotta admit rape is funny.
butt rape bad game rape good
I don’t even think it’s an issue of context but an issue of understanding the idea of the word. To use a bullshit analogy it’s like art. There are a lot of artists that wouldn’t be able to paint/draw/roughly sketch a still life for their survival, but most great artists can, even if their current works are so seemingly lazy and nonsensical they reek of “Hey my kid can draw that!” The point being at least they know the basics well enough to deconstruct it and make a commentary on it. Basically you have to know the foundation of any craft before you can actively and sincerely participate in something that is different from it or goes against the grain of it.
This might be the old man in me, but just this increased rate of information overload might overwhelm a mind that might (or might not) be reaching the limit of what it can process. I’m not for censorship, but more leaning towards healthy education in moderation rather than what could easily occur in the way of some interpreting what looks like rape (but it’s entertainment in a controlled environment) being more actively accessed than something more educating. Basically it’s not the “depends on the context” that I’m worried about in using the word, but people’s inability to know to recognize the context as opposed to using it because everyone else does.

i see what you’re saying OC, but how many people are out there using “rape” without knowing the actual meaning? i don’t hang around kids much, but i’ve never heard someone use the word that shouldn’t have a clear understanding of it various meanings and maybe i’m naive but i don’t think there are many 10-11 year olds casually dropping “rape” in conversations either.
yo keep it real though. we all know that do to some traumatic experiences in your past you totally overreact everytime you watch america’s funniest home videos and somebody gets hit in the balls. you’ll like flip out and run out your house and start rolling around on the lawn while weeping uncontrollably. everybody has their hang ups.
Well that’s the thing. That might be the old man in me talking. Perhaps the outrageous ideas that are put into my head are merely just highlights on the news reel or an isolated (but sensationalized) story of the degradation of the youth of today. I do agree that most families are coherent and responsible, but sometimes it’s not the ratio of success vs. unsuccessful that worries me but on how severe the results of irresponsibility could potentially be. Basically moments where you feel “Humanity’s fucked.”

note: these things are funny after the fact and when i’m totally healed.
Who doesn’t know a woman that has claimed to have been raped? It’s so popular now. About 8-10 years ago the majority of young women apparently were bisexuals, but then since about 5 years ago they got bored of that and now all of them have been raped. In about another 3-4 years they’ll move onto the next shock/sympathy/attention whore plan, and all claim they were raped by their brother, father, sister, or their cats. I don’t know how you can top bestiality, but I’m sure young girls will come up with something.
If anything, THAT has reduced the sensitivity to rape. That and the gajillion false claims of rape, like Duke, then the Hofstra incident, and of course Kobe and maybe Ben.
I doubt the big problem is the term being used in fighting games circles. Fighting games players are nerds, they are overly PC and are for the most part incapable of even talking to a woman, let alone actually having sex forcibly with one. The majority of young women can probably actually beat up the average gamer.
It’s not a great term in games, but it’s not like it really means much. If the circle of people you know use that term freely, they probably also curse freely, and they possibly also use racial epithets freely. If you don’t like that, don’t spend time with them. Don’t complain what people are doing with their own free time and in their own groups however.
actually i throw around rape pretty freely and never curse and very rarely use any racial terms. As do a couple of my other friends.
Yeah, in xbox live or PSN you see a lot kids with screen names like “Killa3432” or “||K1LL3R||” or something but you’ll never see “||R4P1ST||”
random thought i had.

I played under PedoFeelYa on CoD4…
What Lindsay Lohan PC bullshit is this?
Saying you raped someone in a game does not equate raping someone in real life.
Fuck its common sense, even babies understand words mean different things when put into another context.
OP must have been raped
back in hs my name on madden '03 was TheRapist.
