I dunno, maybe it’s because I spend a lot of time on the internet but… “rape” doesn’t sound as serious as it would in my own language. You should have chosen a longer and less catchy word.
Still, the word and the act doesn’t desensitize “together” so I think you’re overreacting.
Also ranked by Newsweek as #1 country in the world recently
Still trying to wrap my head around “rape culture”.
I also am trying to figure out what sort of person hangs around other people that make remarks about wanting to physically rape someone and actually be 100% serious. You using this website or something? Trying to find a date for next year?
From a anthropology perspective, its no different than using dope, crack, the change to ****** into nigga and a whole slew of words that are shifted from a bad connotation to a new one. Certain people have their ways of expressing themselves and I’m not about to tell people how to express themselves.
On the other hand, what’s up with women being raped constantly in EVERYTHING. Makes it hard to watch anything with somebody who was actually raped. You start watching and good, good, rape and then turn off because of sudden flashbacks.
Though the actual act itself is bad, I’ve heard a majority of women actually have rape fantasies at some point or another. Difference is, even in the fantasy where they are overpowered and raped, they’re still in control. Of course you would be hard pressed to ever have a woman admit she has fantasized about it before because it would come off as morally wrong.
What can you say? Seems like men that say “raped” to other men out of context like saying “I just put my dick in your ass and violated you without your consent”
Except, the person might not be saying that at all. Me raping you in Street Fighter does not mean I somehow sexually assaulted you…with SF. Again, context is everything. Words are only as powerful as we let them be.
rape has always been used in jokes and in colorful ways. i mean look at full metal jacket or any other slew of movies where you have guys telling other guys that they’re gonna be knee deep in their asshole, etc, etc…
and yeah most chicks do have quasi-rape fantasies.
I would say yes. Misogyny at its best. Women have been getting too uppity lately and thinking they can play games too.
Of course, if you wish to get attention on the internet, you have to be shocking. Now valuable resources like Hitler, rape and pedophellia have lost their value.
Personally, I’ve already moved on to indiscriminate-racism as my smack talk.
Oh you like that!? You got lynched NIGGA!
No seriously though, I actually had to work on using the word rape less frequently. “Dude, that concert was rape” then I would think to myself, did I just say that and someone agreed with me? I will still say it if I’m gaming though, don’t plan on changing that.
My girl tried to get me to use another word instead of “rape” when i beat someone effortlessly.
Girl - why it gotta be rape??
Me - …bc he got raped?
Girl - Cant you use another word like “destroyed” or "killed?“
Me - …
Girl - rape isnt really a joke though…
Girl - It just sounds so sexist yknow!?
Me - …but " rape” sounds better.
Girl - !!!
Me - yep.
I don’t think think rape has been “normalized” or some how trivialized by the term being used in more ways to describe certain situations i.e. raping someone in SSF:IV…
I say this because when You hear it You don’t think that someone was raped literally…
However I do think that it has been to somewhat mainstreamed through pornography. Rape porn is and has been somewhat popular in Japan for awhile. The U.S. has also started promoting simulated rape scenes also which means people are watching and most likely being entertained by someone being raped. Be it real or not…
Threads kinda lame. There was a time in romantic euro when calling someone a swine or pig was such a serious insult that it could start duels to death/major injuries.
Stupid, dumb, retarded, moron, idiot at one time referred to pretty serous mental issues now no one cares when you use those words. I see where u are coming from but words evolve and threads get raped lol.
he’s climbin in your windows
he’s snatchin your people up
tryna rape em so y’all need to
hide your kids, hide your wife
hide your kids, hide your wife
hide your kids, hide your wife
and hide your husband
cuz they’re rapin errbody out here
If you have a problem with it, then say something, but you can’t expect people to stop saying it when you’re not around, and unless you have some kind of proof that actual instances of rape have increased since people have begun to use the word rape more casually, you don’t have much of a point. The fact that people use the word rape more casually is hardly indicative of a culture surrounding rape
