"If I can draw like Bengus, then why dont I work for Capcom?
For a few reasons
Bengus, still works (or rahter does stuff) for Capcom.
Every artist (on the fighting game design team) at Capcom knows how to draw in or manipulate Bengus’ style.
Capcom (of Japan) isnt hiring anyone or looking for any artist at the moment.
Why would Capcom need another artist on their fighting game staff, when they’ve already got Bengus, Akiman, Kinu, Shinkirou, and Edayan."
My god. Nowhere in there did i see a reason even resembling modesty, like “I still have a long ways to go before I draw art good enough to work professionally for a big company.” Some humility will go a long way to improving your artwork; the rift in skill level between the capcom art staff and you is enormous.
These are the kinda qualifications your gonna need to ever work at somewhere as professional as capcom, unfortunately its sad but the truth you gotta be an artistic god. Being better than everyone else doesnt do in the big business, you gotta be THE BEST, and a lot of people dont get how anyone can be better. Practice, practice, practice!! http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/img/download/wallpaper/gba/super_ghouls_and_ghosts/super_ghouls_and_ghosts_1_1024.jpg
you sound extremely cocky. the last statement made it sound like if capcom was hiring, you legitimately think they would look at your portfolio, assuming you have one, and hire you.
i agree with most of what’s been thrown around in this thread. the main thing you gotta do is draw from life FIRST then try to add style. what you’re doing now is interpreting someone else’s interpretation of life.
and as for Falcoon, i don’t agree with you at all. that guy’s got too much skill. i don’t think he needs color. he’s got a great flow and has his own style.
 This has turned into a TAS bashing thread the way it’s going! Seriously TAS, your artwork is nowhere near the quality that one of the legendary artists of Capcom can produce. Your coloring skills are nice but you need to learn to take critics like a man and use them to better improve yourself rather than back yourself in a corner and continue debating that your drawings are top-tier.
Yeah, honestly, but no offense Taz, I always thought you were like an expert artist, because you knew so much about Bengus, but your style man. It’s too Japanese Americanized. Nothing anime like. Sorry for being hard a bit. I suck just the same as you do.
Bengus:
getting back on topic - I dunno whether your style is unique (don’t read enough manga to know) but I like the group pics (super league). Did you have a reference for that pic? It looks very cohesive and I like how the people in them interact with one another - it actually looks natural and that, to me, is a good thing.
TAS:
relax, and don’t go overly defensive - everyone is trying to give you feedback. And as with all feedback, you can choose what to do with it - dismiss it as irrelevant and ignore it (life goes on as usual), or sift through was said and see what can be applied (life changes a bit, sometimes for the better, other times for the worse). The thing is not to get defensive (there is a difference between defending your work and being defensive) because people will be less inclined to give you feedback in the future.
Im not good enough of an artist to work for Capcom, anways.
I thought that had already been made clear by other people’s posts, plus I was posting in a hurry (or else I would of included it)
You missed the point of what I said.
I like Falcoon’s art, its very cool, unique, whatever.
What I was saying is that he’s an excellent colorists, and because of that his stuff looks a hundred times better.
He knows how to utilize his style, “less is more” in his case, ie by not overwhelming his drawing with details it alows him to color his stuff easier, and show off the range of his coloring talents.
An example of the less is more would be if you looked at the pencil or inked pages of the new SF comics by Alvin Lee, they dont have alot of details in terms of shading or inking, so that the UDON colorists can do the best job possible, ie lots of details just makes it harder to color, “less is more”
Yes
Yes
Soon, in the new SF Comic no less.
Everyone so quick to judge.
This all could of been avoided if
I hadnt posted that Datta image (which I only posted so that Bengus wouldnt have to go through that whole thread of my art if Bengus didnt want to)
Sweet didnt post about my pic.
I didnt reply to Sweet’s post.
Btw newbies, or “Ive been here for awhile but just registered” its harder for me to respect anything you say since you havnt been here that long, or I havnt seen your stuff, or dont know what you’re like, etc, etc.
Its easier to listen to people who have been here for awhile who can produce good stuff that Ive seen, etc, etc.
More than anything, Im an idea person, I like to come up with, write, or design stuff.
See for instance Id like to design characters (among other things) but then have people I know or artist I like, do all the actual published type art (like Corey Lewis, I know him, Im a big fan of his, I know what likes, etc)
“What could he possibly be doing for the SF comic?”
Well first off its not anything art related (HAHA)
I wrote two CHEAP SHOTS stories for REY, who did the CHEAP SHOTS short in the back of SF#1, and will continue to do them, but last time I talked to Rey it wasnt certain if he’d be doing them in every issue, or just every once and awhile.
If you’re wondering what the two stories, one is about whats in Ryu’s bag, and the other involves an arcade (and various SF chars)
I dont want to post the specifics (or the acutual short little scripts I wrote) so that I dont spoil it.
“Ive been here for awhile, but just registered”
or
“I had an old account, but made a new one”
Whichever it is, its just harder to get use to it, ie I just see the registration date and kinda assume that goes along with knowledge in some cases, not always, but I know thats kinda a bad way of looking at it.
Why do I think like this sometimes? Just look at some of the topics or responses newbies have made in the fighting game forum (the same applies to some other forums I post one)
i draw cheap shots for the new street fighter comic as TAS has mentioned. it is a monthly thing and will be in every issue. however, i just want to get something clear, i write all the cheapshots comics myself.
TAS briefly told me of some of his ideas that are interesting enough, and while i may incorporate them into the comic somoeday, i still write it myself.
but uh, seriously, anyone in this thread who says they draw like bengus has got a screw loose. no offense or anything. bengus is like totally amazing. he school all of us x100
I didnt really mean to say everything I did, I got pretty frustrated, and I am always aurguing with someone about something.
I never meant that I draw exactly like Bengus, but that I can draw like.
What this means is, I have broken down one of Bengus’ styles, ie Ive drawn out the way he draws eyes, noses, hair, muscle anatomy, heads, hands, feet, ears, etc, etc, and I can just combine all of it to form a single picture.
Note I can only do the above with a nude or anatomy drawing, I havnt studied the way Bengus does clothes, cause there’s really no patter to it, or whatever.
Everyone -
You guys dont understand how much Ive been aurguing with people lately on forums, for example, Shoryuken, SNK Vs Capcom, GAIA, GameFAQs, etc, etc, in multiple threads I might add.
And I always gotta say things like a million times over again, and have to justify everything, that it frustrates the hell outta me, and then I’ll get really pissed off.
Example I got really pissed at what Sweet said way back, bot only cause I was frustrated at the time, and then this whole thread became more and more frustraiting over time, and blah, blah, blah.
EXAMPLE
Check out this thread, its one of the most frustraiting aurguments Ive ever been in, and you dont have to worry cause Im right in this aurgument, and its BLATENTLY obvious from reading it, and whatever just read it, for fun, or whatever
about all these forum arguments you’re getting involved in - don’t worry too much convincing everyone. You may be right (esp in the case of the whole SF canon-icity), but it doesn’t make an ounce of difference to someone who doesn’t want to be convinced. So instead of wasting bandwidth & braincells and raising your blood pressure, I’d advise you to just let the guy on S-C.com go on in his own deluded ways. I did just that after trying to talk to Akuma re:Zangief. It just wasn’t going anywhere, so I decided to do something better with my time & energy.
