Is it me or is this game really that unbalanced

This is available in every competitive game, sport, or hobby, not exclusive to TS. The game is unbalanced, however, player skill and knowledge can/will overcome the imbalances.

As an Oro player its pretty frustrating that against the top 3 chars regardless of player skill/character tier blah blah i gota deal with hit-box issues, Ken easiest char to drop BnB on, chun lowest crouch, Yun cant land BnB and lowest crouch.

Thought about not saying anything but I figured I’d chime in. A simple way to look at it is 1/3 character, 1/3 skill, and 1/3 match up.

Every game has characters who are given strengths, moves, etc that are better than another’s. So if the character has better normals, punished that require less risk, etc then they are stronger.

skill is the ability of the player, which can be broken down to lots of things like ability to make smart decisions, hit confirm, react to opponents mistakes, have a strong defense, parry, red parry, and more.

what it sounds like a lot of people don’t realize is knowing match ups. match up knowledge can include character specific combos, optimal punishes, punishes for unsafe moves, strong moves against certain characters, etc.

You have to do sick stuff to get wins with Hugo, and it wouldn’t surprise me if your skill as a player, or match up knowledge is lacking at this point.

I think 3rd strike is balanced enough.

part of your frustration might also be coming from lag in online play as well.

RRAGHHRRR!

Hey fuck you too buddy

this is the most unbalanced capcom fighter out there.

What’s most likely happening with the OP is a slight case of overconfidence, thinking that because they’re a better player they’ll win easily. The thing is, yes there is a matchup disadvantage for Hugo when he goes up against Chun, Yun, Ken or what have you. At the same time however, this isn’t something that can’t be overcome by skilled play. However, if you’re going into the matchup thinking that you’ll win because you’re a “skilled player,” then that’s where your problems are going to start - unless you’re obviously steamrolling your opponent, you need to respect them and the tools that they have at their disposal. I skilled marksman with a pistol going up against a thug with an AK is still someone bringing a peashooter against someone with an automatic. You still have to consider what they can do if they hit you.

He spelled his name wrong, you might be okay. And OE just makes everything SFX 120% wrong wrong wrong and this is without X.C.O.P.Y. garbles.

Oh man, now I’m glad they didn’t unleash XCOPY + “Garbage can Shoryu” on us!

Basically this. Hugo is also a hard character to learn and use correctly, while the higher tier chars at mid to advanced levels are easier and more linear to play and require less match up knowledge.

It sounds like you are losing to players you think you can beat because you don’t know how to handle the match up correctly. My advice is to learn the match-ups as much as you can and after that focus on playing the player while applying match-up knowledge.

Also if you are having trouble with a specific thing in a match up ask and we will try to help. No one is trying to insult you just trying to help

lol everyone home on thanksgiving and blowin up 3s forums

3s is unbalanced, but you also probably suck with hugo

I don’t understand the comment about Ken being the best, but whatever. Only character in this game that is an all-around geniune asshole is Chun, and even she’s beatable.

I do feel for you in the Hugo vs Chun Li matchup. Fk Chun. If you’re having that much trouble with weaker players tho, it probably means you’re either way underestimating them or way overestimating yourself or a bit of both. You might not be as well-informed on matchup info as you need to be (like yuuki said) or not actively trying to adjust to your opponent. It’s best to check and see if there’s a solution first.

I agree with the advice about uploading a video or two if possible in the Hugo section and asking for advice. You’d be surpised how simple the solutions can be to getting over the next hump in your play.

Oh yah, fk Blanka too.

lol igaloo bob what’s up, I think we played a couple of times. I am BigbadwolfMN on Xbox

YUN CHUN KEN who would have thought

but my personal truth is that, when using hugo, those 3 are definitely not the most annoying opponents
i will keep it short because i’m watching the vampire sav tournament ? :

  • elena and in particular healing elena
  • urien (mp sphere is a pain because hugo is so stylishly tall)
  • oro (well,it’s oro)

those 3 are incredibly annoying and frustrating to fight if you’re using hugo (well,if they are used correctly)
ken is doable, just crouch or block on the opposite side to avoid those 62 cross-up ex tatsu
yun,low stamina and so-so pokes
chun,doesn’t have good anti-airs
they are still difficult, yes, but they won’t frustrate you and annoy you like those other 3
and let’s not forget ibuki Ă©_Ă©

you probably need to kara all of your claps with MK,though

and,no,sf4 is not balanced (i hate that word
)
and,yes,i have a pretty sick hugo . thanks !

nice taste bro or should i say nosotros
thats princess garnet til alexandros!

o god.
maybe i can stick my hand in this blender really carefully.

Dander is the best

In Minnesota too

fuck,i forgot necro
hugo - sa III necro is truly difficult for hugo
hugo - sa I necro is virtually impossible (way, way, way harder than chun-oro and hardest match-up in the entire game - IMO)

Q
pa x 3 pretty much guaranteed because hugo is just too slow and his dash is crap
even if you are not so far from q and have enough meter for ex lariat
q doesn’t care
in other words,a truly enjoyable fight

I would love to dissect the brains of someone like Pierrot, TM, or Genki and find out how they are so good. There has to be a level of execution or thinking or something where Chun is not -I don’t want to say unstoppable- but you’re not thinking “Oh shit, it’s Chun Li, I’m pretty fucked right now but if I lose I can blame it on the character.” I assume a certain amount of vindication is there in that they like the characters they main and the fact that they’re low tier pushes them to show how good they can be.

I think it’s like really taking the time to figure out why Kuroda is gdlk. You’d just go insane looking for that answer. It’s like trying to figure out what Pi really equals.

*I hate when he calls me a cockface after winning the first round. *

oh hey. I can’t remember who has what tendencies, lots of Hugo players lately and they all kind of run together in my brain. but yeah I remember your name. odds are if you’re a Hugo player who played against me I probably lamed you out with Chun jump back fierce or Ken EX tatsu. because I really don’t like getting wakeup or jump in 360’d.

I definitely think you should post some replays, the people here are generally pretty helpful. though if you get advice from any ducks you might want to ignore it.
