Yeah but ‘indio’ gets reserved for a certain population of brown people. Like someone else said, we don’t get super detailed with some of our nicknames. Light skinned people with dark hair? El chino or la china.
I think it’s an insult to me when I ask of them not to call me that… I don’t want to be labeled as an object… they know my name as well as I know theirs respect my wishes… and the Spanish individuals on my job do a lot of Homosexual games in which they would say other derogatory statements.
At least fromw where i am, Moreno is not an insult, is just a normal way to refer to someone who is brown skinned (or in this case darker since we latin americans are different shades of brown). Plus my maternal last name is Moreno, so as you can see, is harmless.
Or Niche for the mater
Edit
I just noticed that this thread was made 5 years ago, lol.
Not an insult, but if you don’t like it tell her. With your dick.
What in the god damned resurrection of Jesus’ greasy dishwater? 5 YEARS! Come on, you dumbfucks.
we need an update after 5 years
I’ve been called Moreno before even though I’m Asian.
My cock is that large.
5 year update Pretty sure the chick wanted to fuck me. So, not an insult.
moreno= blackie= she wants your cock and she would try to call you in a cute manner.
gotta love my mexican friend who used to call niggers every black tourist and get a laugh cuz he was “mulato”
he was a shorty mexican black with a damn broken english and , he didnt care what your skin colour was
“Moreno” is not an insult. In fact I’ve seen Mexicans across the border regularly use the word as an euphemism for black people, too.
Now, “prieto” is a much more aggressive word to refer brown or darkskinned people.
If a random person were to say it, yes, it is derogatory or at least inconsiderate. If you two know each other and she’s somewhat older than you it is a term of endearment. Kinda like saying “ey mah niggah”. Your friend or someone you know says it and it’s cool but if some random dude off the street that wasn’t black said it, you might take offense to it.
I’m kinda brown and if some random person came up to me off the street calling me moreno, I’d be a bit weirded out and probably ignore the person. If it was some old lady I worked with, the best approach for me would be to just treat it as someone simply getting my attention. Probably wouldn’t even hear the word just the tone of voice.
You think prieto refers to the typical/stereotypical pri party proponent?
I am not sure about that, again, my maternal last name is Moreno, like Mario Moreno “Cantinflas”.
Fuck yes it is offensive.
Anybody who calls you that should catch a sheet of plateglass to the face.
my moms would call my dad “Negro”…he wasn’t black in any way of his color or features. his skin tone was rosey, at best.
He would call her “Lila” which means purple/lilac.
so…i think my parents calling each other colors is why I ended up being a painter/artist.
oh what they useta call me, you ask?
a mistake.
good thing I never paid any attention to what they’d say.
“Negro” is not an insult in Mexico, either.
calling someone negro is the same as calling someone black in english. they could take offense but we call it like it is in spanish. la negra/el negro, its not the same as pietro/a or niche, which would be the equiv’ to the n-word. lol my mom calls my dad and i negro sometimes simply because shes much much more light skinned than him and i, but we arent “black”, but we are moreno. make sense?
4 simple names to call eveyone by their phisical appeareance, even if you know their names, and not offensive:
Güero= white guy
Gordo= fat guy
Flaco= skinny guy
Moreno= brown(sometimes black) guy

Pietro …Wait, isn’t that Quicksilver’s name in the comics?
Prieto, not Pietro.
TBH, it is the first time that i hear that prieto could be considered offensive.
Niche on the other hand, i am sure that is offensive on any place of latin america
