I mean at the end of the day, I want a good movie. The last Batman movie was ‘iaght’, even though they changed up Bane, he was semi-well executed. If they get to a great movie via source material, great. IF they get there taking their own path, that’s great too. Jurassic Park left ALOT of source material on the shelf and even changed various aspects. IT was still a great movie. Then they tried to resurrect parts of the Source material in JP3 and the movie was a train wreck. shrug
Its kinda like Iron Man 1 for me where I’ve watched it 3 times and enjoyed it well enough. It doesn’t have the HUGE hype Avengers had where I saw that movie like 6 times in theater and multple times through bootleg methods.
Saw IM3 last night. Easily the best of the trilogy, I was surprised how ambitious it was in that the film attempted to out do itself every 10 minutes or so. A funny one liner or cool set piece occurs, than BAM something even funnier or more viscerally impressive happens and the stakes climbed even higher.
RDJ has a face that can sell anything… and really, at least one sixth of every Iron Man movie, we’re staring him right in the face. The prime reason for the HUD display shots is so that he can melt us with those big brown eyes and cut right to our hearts with that mathematically precise goatee.
He had cats googling ‘shwarma’ when they left the movie.
:bluu:
Damn that man’s goatee, especially in this movie. Before it was too ‘douche’, but it was perfect this time around. I swear they shave it all off then use CG to line it up perfect. It IS mathematical.
Alright movie. Cut out the section after the Malibu attack up to the point where the Mandarin is unveiled and it would have been just as good. I started daydreaming on that section.
so can we talk about the whole biting gizmo duck lol. i assume it was a comic thing, but damn…i def kept thinking ducktales when his suit pieces come flying near the end of the movie.
I doubt China would have cared if Mandarin was Chinese as long as there were other Chinese actors to create a balance. Just throw Ming-na in there to tie in with the new Shield series and maybe one other actor or actress.
That’s generally what really bothers minorities in Hollywood movies is the lack of a balanced representation.
I love TDKR and agree with you on Catwoman. It kinda made sense because it’s something Batman has to accept - he has to rely on others and not be a brooding loner all the time, but getting off topic.
The idea of the 10 rings being Asgardian technology, ok, sure I would buy that. It would help bridge the universe together even more and open up for even more story into Thor they could use. It’s hard not to go over The Mandarin. I remember Marvel’s big cheese saying they wouldn’t use him in the first film and would save the best for last. He said using Mandarin in the first would be like using The Emperor in Ep. IV instead of Ep. VI and yeah he makes a good point. Just like how Nolan used Joker for the second film, you don’t wanna use up all the good stuff all at once. Plus, we have the 10 rings terrorists, in the trailer you saw him wear 10 rings so wtf?! The Mandarin isn’t a stellar villain but the direction they were going was really cool and up to date. Because I didn’t expect or really wanted pre-communist Chinese guy, it’s not relevant anymore. As long as he’s foreign it was fine with me. But instead we get Guy Pearce, really? It was bad enough when he gets the dragon tattoos and says “I’m the real Mandarin” in the last 10 minutes of the film. No really? I never would figured that out with the tattoos and the twist over an hour ago jackass. And his plan, to expand the war on terror so he can more or less make/sell PMCs to become rich. Just evil business man… again! It’s like FOX’s X-Men all over again, where Magneto had to be a villain in every film or Lex Luthor where each plan involves REAL ESTATE! Hell I’d be ok if the writer completely invented a whole new villain just for the film as long as he wasn’t evil business man.
That and nothing felt at stake here. Pepper is kidnapped oh no… saw that coming. And Happy is in a coma? I could so careless. I get it - he’s Tony’s friend but from the movies they look like friends who maybe chit chat at work but outside that don’t really do anything together. I felt no connection to this character. If anything, why not put Pepper in the coma? What about that spot from The Mandarin “do you want a meaningful death or an empty life?” So defeat The Mandarin at the cost of Pepper or sacrifice himself to save Pepper? That sounds good to me, why not go with that?
More and more films are doing way too much misdirection and this annoying twist with the villain. Like it wasn’t Bane but Talia behind the whole scheme. Transformers 3 it wasn’t Megatron but Sentinel Prime. Or in the recent Star Trek…kinda-ish. Can we no longer have one villain who comes out and says I’m the villain. The deception is getting old now and annoying. For all we know General Zod may not even be the villain in Man of Steel but is instead his wife, I dunno.
No one gave this much of a shit about Mandarin when he was in the comics or when they made the brother green in the '90s cartoon, why the fuck are so many people jumping about staying true to the source material now?
Come on Comic book fans, we all know you aren’t going to see a live action version of Demon in the Bottle due to Iron Man needing to be popular with the kids and we should all know Mandarin isn’t going to be true to the source material because that fool in his original appearance was offensive and Asia movie money is more impressive then faithful comic book guys in the West. Lets move on because 4 to 5 years from now, just like before outside of a few Iron Man die hards no one will care about the Mandarin again until his usual appearance in the comics every 3 years to try to wrap up or appear in a big story.
