Well just off the top of my head, multiple hit aerial attacks from the likes of Rolento and Yoshi will obviously stuff it. I haven’t really seen people use it as AA apart from toying about. I think you need to charge it for a few frames too, unless you use the EX version.
Yeah I was just doing it against the computer with a standard Ryu jump in kick on replay. I use the super easy input gem and I had no problems getting it charged and ready before the kick hit.
Drop the easy input gem. Especially if you plan on playing fighting games for any amount of time in the future. Not me being a dick, but trust me you will thank me later.
Also, to answer your previous question, just crouch on reaction to the jump and do a late PPP lariat in maybe the last 1/3rd of their jump. I’ve been playing Fighting Games for a long time so I’m very used to anti - airing, but Gief’s is so good that you’ll get the hang of it rather quickly.
I only use the easy input gem for Gief just because it makes things like green handing to close gaps way easier. I try to do the actual motion when I have time but in certain situations it just seems like there’s no reason not to have it. But I suppose if I want to get to competition level ever you’re right, I’ll have to drop it. Any tips to make the SRK motion less difficult? That’s about the only thing I struggle with. I feel like with tough motions I end up riding the gate of my stick really hard and just being rough on it and I hate that
Started getting a bit more adventurous tonight with Zangief’s combos on tag-ins with the s.mp, s.mp, s.mp, Lariat in the corner and s.mp, s.mp, s.mk x s.hk elsewhere. Not a huge deal but I’m getting more comfortable with the engine so thanks for the tips, guys.
I was having a tough time with Rufus against Law earlier but it felt like I could punish a number of his otherwise safe moves with SPD. Despite the slow start-up, are there any applications for it still instead of the ABC launcher combos? The 5 frame start-up puts me off using it quite a bit.
Well I just went into training to practice without the easy input gem and was surprised how well I was pulling off back to back green hands. Guess I’ve improved more than I realized. Still having loads of trouble with the lariat timing though, if anyone wants to help me out that would be awesome. My gt is my username.
@mkiking, I find Rolento really hard too- I played a long set with my friend who has a sick Rolento though and I’ve figured out some stuff but it’s not much:
Hopefully by playing your normal game you’ll teach the Rolento that you can SPD him after rekkas unless he jumps so that’ll teach him to stop that, and make extra sure that you wait a second after your first time doing it so if he tries to neutral jump and punish you’re ready to Lariat and after that he probably won’t rekka you again! (Especially if you switch cancel the lariat for like 400 damage) That’ll stop him doing that to you and he’ll eventually be forced to just sit fullscreen and lame you out with stand fierce.
At this point you’re gonna have some real trouble against that move but I’ve found some solutions- first, if you have the lifelead just try waste the clock until you win. If you’re behind it’ll be tricky, but you can try counterpoke his fierce with your stand MK… it’s quite tricky but the important thing is to autoconfirm MK/HK (HK will hit because he’s standing) and then launch and make sure you convert that to big damage and hope your partner can deal with him a bit better. It’s really important to convert because you’re not gonna get many of those MKs to counterpoke, especially not if you’re trying to advance towards him- it only really seems to work on defense.
The other option is to jump which is pretty dangerous because I find Gief doesn’t have the best air to air normals and he can either anti air you with stand strong or stand fierce, so as far as I can tell all you can really do is like jump in with fierce and try hit him doing the fierce, or jump in with knee drop (down LK) and make his strong whiff, then SPD him the moment you land. So in short if he’s anti airing you with strong, do knee drop SPD, if he’s anti airing you with stand fierce, try hit him back with jumping fierce.
I still find it a very difficult matchup but those are a few things I’ve found.
Rolento’s main gimmick is that pogo stick mixup shit. Gief anti airs that really well, but it definitely takes some practice.
Outside of that the first hit of fierce rekka is +1 on block and Rolento has a 3 frame jab. What you can do is try to raw launcher to a combo if he is going for the cr. jab or Alpha counter the actual Rekka (This is pretty easy) if your character can convert that to big damage. Outside of that it’s rather hard to play footsies with Rolento’s pole so far, but I’m sure something will get figured out.
I’ve been suing the most lol team with Dhalsim on point and Gief in the back. I get the life lead with Sim while being extremely annoying by keeping my opponent out, then I just tag in Gief. I just sit back while the opponent either a) Has to come at me because of my life lead or b) they are so frustrated from Sim they charge wildly into Gief’s loving arms.
with rolento i go as far in as i can and try to catch them with my l kick…worked very well for me…in fact i rather deal with rolento then vega…whos kicking my ass right now…
Zangief is rediculessly good in this game. He deserves some changes, not nerfs
s.lk s.mp(far) chain is like -4 or something. Lol! And he doesnt even need it, he can pressure fine with s.lk, and whiffpunish / stuff with OS- EX-Greenhand
What’s the biggest punish you guys have found for raw tags? I do j.hp cr.hp s.lp s.mp s.hk launcher. 396 damage no meter + what you get after your partner is in.
