I’m sure it’s a lot more complex than that since he’s under contract.
I don’t think the teams have a right to say who can or cannot be allowed to play. Worse case, Justin can just play without the EG label.
Yes they do, if they are under contract. It’s always been like that sir…That’s the whole point of contracts and terms of contracts.
inb4 “signing away your soul for money”
I don’t think Justin is as dumb as Stephano anyway. It was just an example.
EG was being lenient and kind to that SC player by just banning him from tourneys for a month. If J Wong did the same stuff they probably wouldn’t think twice about dropping him from the team, and that will cost a player far more than a 1 month ban.
If J Wong was given a 1 month ban from EG you can bet that he’ll follow that ban, because he would already be on thin ice and only an idiot would try to piss off his sponsors even more.
EG values Justin a lot more than that.
LOL at eSports being serious. LOL at video games being serious. LOL at video games being called sport.
play is no fun when it becomes work. I think jchensor on the ultra chen show a few months back hit the nail on the head on the esports thing.
If EG dropped Justin, someone else would pick him up within the week.
Sport is not the best term, but it is competitive at the highest level. If it helps, compare it to something like Poker? If not, and you still want to hate on it, keep on keeping on. It’s going to grow regardless of if YOU like it, because enough already people do.
He must have changed his tune a lot, sitting there commentating for IPL.
LOL, I doesn’t matter what I like, thanks for stating the obvious. It doesn’t deter though that its fucking stupid though.
It doesn’t deter that you think it’s fucking stupid. Is what you meant, you cute troll you!
Why do I get the feeling that someone has a problem with the culture of the community in general. We’re not even saying that we shouldn’t make FGs eSports. All we’re voicing is the same concerns that other folks have voiced regarding eSports needing to respect the FGC and it’s culture.
And where has IPL ever said they are not going to support the scene and respect it’s history? I don’t have a problem with the scene. I remember going to the laundromat and pizza place near my home and popping quarters in the Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Mortal Kombat machines. I have no problem with where the history has come, because that’s what made me love fighting games. I have a problem with the blind pessimism and early dismissal of IPL who has done nothing but tried to earn the respect of the community.
It’s not really blind pessimism, because eSports does have a terrible history with fighting games. IPL promises to be different but until we see the end results I think people here do have the right to be pessimistic if they don’t have faith in promises by strangers. If IPL proves to have done everything right and people here are still bitching then yes these guys are self entitled trolls who don’t deserve any attention, but until then the ball is on IPL’s court to prove themselves.
Just like to make clear, He wasn’t joking about “raping” a child and he was private messaging a friend, who just so happened to be streaming unannounced to him. It’s bullshit that he can be punished because stream monsters are rabid idiots and blew him up for something that was suppose to be private and personal. How in the hell did he deserve his punishment. It’s ridiculous and it’s not the first time a team was pressured because asshat fans email sponsors.
One of the many aspects of these high profile teams that I think is rather toxic. It’s great they fly players around but rash decisions to bullshit like that is ridiculous. Not only that it’s rather ignorant of his culture, aka france, where such a deed is really not seen down upon given the age of consent is just 15.
This like that bother me, not that I think any of the superfriends will find themselves in a position to be suspended like that anyway.
Bro, if you can support IPL and its endeavors do not take our entitlement to be fearful, cautious, or even pessimistic.
None of us have a problem with being wrong if this all ends up being a great thing but we can be whatever we want before that happens.
Justifying the statement does not make it right that he said it. It was on stream, it was just a bad situation. He apologized and accepted it was wrong, even if he was being fake about accepting it. It’s just not right that he said it. But I can tell there’s no convincing you because you think since he’s French and age of consent is lower, it makes it alright that he joked about molesting or raping someone.
You seem to forget that sponsors for eSports teams don’t even have a category yet for sponsoring them as a competitive gaming team. It’s sponsorship of entertainment, I believe. It’s better explained by Alex (head of EG) at the Dreamhack Valencia Congress. That means whatever sponsors they do get to fly out these players, they need to keep. Brushing off statements like that, which get out (and if it didn’t, I’m not saying it would be right, but at least it wouldn’t be traced back to EG) means they have to take it seriously and make sure no one says dumb shit like that in public (it technically was public) again.
And I’m not taking away your entitlement to be fearful or cautious, I’m just saying everyone should be more optimistic about IPL because Capcom has jumped on board. That means Capcom is doing what so few developers do, and that’s support their competitive scene. Granted it took Capcom a lot longer than most. We’re just arguing here anyway, no big deal. I don’t really see anyone else being optimistic about this here, which is sad because this is the community it affects the most. I think we’re going to see some sick competitions and more international play now, which means more matches. That’s good for everyone who loves fighting games, particularly SFIVAE (and to a lesser extent SFxT 2013). Sucks Marvel licence ran out, or we’d see that too.
Esports is not ready for Marvel hype
I still don’t see why you keep saying he was joking about molesting/or raping someone.
Okay, this is getting ridiculous. This thread is not about Stephano. He said he abused a 14 year old. Then the guy said “you fucked a 14 yo?”. He said “a 14 yo”.
There. Now move on and contribute to the discussion about IPL and Capcom partnership.
