I don’t mind the $5 entry fee where it is, personally. These are monthly tourneys for, essentially, a group of people that would probably get together for roughly the same thing without the tournament. They aren’t regional or major tourneys, and no one’s out for big money or anything here. If I win my gas money back and break even after dinner, I’m a really happy individual.

I’d rather not pay 30-40 every month to enter all the games that we’ll be playing. I wouldn’t mind the higher turn-out games getting a higher entry fee, but the motivation for half-playing is fine enough right now. Marvel is a game I don’t practice and I wouldn’t have entered it for 10$. I could buy new video games here.
Edit: Also to put things into perspective since Blake will read this. I believe its better for tourney life overall. While the pot may equal out or even become bigger with higher EF even as some people drop out because of it, it detracts from the experience. Only so many dedicated people will want to pay 10 bucks for a 6 person tourney all the time. This is relative of course, you could put any number there and the same principle applies.
I’d rather see $10, but given the size of these things- it might as well be $5. Really, you wouldn’t really deter many people by increasing the entry fee a mere $5. It would only affect as Scott said, people who enter multiple games. Most people enter only one maybe two tournies. If those people can’t come up with another $10 to enter their games then you probably shouldn’t be using money to enter tournaments in the first place. I can understand if you choose not to because you’re just a cheap bastard but again, that’s only a few people.
But like I said in the beginning, since the size of the tournaments are pretty modest, “a few” people makes up a considerable chunk. With that in mind, I say keep it at $5- even the bigger games. Again- I’d prefer $10 though. >_>

Late to the discussion as usual; I still don’t see why people are pissy about Bad Design Mega Man, I consider it a playful tongue in cheek tribute rather than a “ha-ha! Beggars can’t be choosers! Now suck it babies” reaction. Sure Capcom has been taking a dump on one of my favorite franchises over the past year all for the sake of Japanese pride (just in time for the 25th anniversary, yay), but from what I’ve heard Inafune gave Ono his consent to use Mega in said manner so it’s not like HE’S completely upset about it. Character wise, Zero has been in my top spot as favorite character from the series for a while now; dude saves Earth knowing he’s going to die in the process anyway, that takes balls.
As for the game itself, I’m going to treat it like I treat a lot of other recent stuff. #1, I can’t afford to buy a lot of new stuff these day anyway so I’ve got that out of the way. #2, game looks fun to watch. I’m always down for spectating just about anything but I haven’t really felt excited for playing SF X T over the past few months. Game could be hit or miss but right now I’m just feeling, meh. Only enjoyment I’m getting from it right now is seeing Dr. Sub Zero on Cross Assault, even if he doesn’t say a whole lot. :looney:GEM DEBATE!!!:looney: Hey, it’s modify a character mode from console Alpha 3, only standard. It’s been stated that if you don’t want to use gems, you don’t have to. Sure your opponent might not feel the same way but at least you don’t have to conform completely. Finally, plenty of other options. More hype for Tag 2 and KOF 13 than SF X T and there are tons of other games too.

Ironic because the one who’s going to be paying rent with you is on the opposite spectrum of this in more ways then one.
In a tournament there are far more losers then there are winners. That puts them in the minority, and in our community the only thing AA stands for is Anti-air. Some people want to get more money because they put more time into the game? Hell I want to get money for the time I put into IaMP and Melty, fuck that. This is AMERICA!

So Saturday was the first day I played UMVC3 against live opponents. The internet has trained me badly, the whole game felt 5x faster…Thanks for the lesson in humility everyone.

@Murph- I have Madcatz SE Xbox 360 stick dual modded with a Chimp board and I did it myself (as in I got a friend to solder while I watched).
