FOR ANYONE ATTENDING F-4 IN DUBUQUE IOWA,THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS VERY IMPORTANT! Venue has recently contacted me saying that they have NOT RECEIVED **ANY **registration forms as of yet. They NEED these forms to have a clear understanding of who is showing up to the tournament on Saturday. I know there’s been interest and people have told me either here or in person that they will attend and even though I have told them this, they will not accept my word alone as verification that anyone will show up. They do not check this website at all and they have no idea of any of the conversations that have been going on. I know most people are pretty laid back about registration and would prefer to do so the day of the event, the venue however WILL NOT ACCPET THIS unless people start to RSVP. These forms need to be sent to the venue RIGHT NOW and they should have gotten them YESTERDAY. It is VERY important that we send these out to the venue because SINCE THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMPLETED REGISTRATION FORMS, THEY HAVE THREATENED TO CANCEL THE TOURNAMENT!!! NO JOKE!!! The link to the form can be found **AT THIS LINK **can be sent out to events@fiveflagscenter.com If you are having ANY problems with finding or filling out the form, just e-mail them a message with your name, age, phone number, e-mail address, city and state, games you are entering and all games, systems & equipment you are bringing.
That last part is also important. Venue has told me they are providing TVs but they have no idea whether or not they lag. If you have TVs or monitors that you can provide that don’t lag, please do so as it will be VERY helpful to all of us.

Short term notice for you IA heads but we’ve got a UMvC3 release week tournament coming up in MN. We’ll have Juicebox in town, Asus monitors, cash-payouts, and the usual cold-weather hype.
As a 3rd setup or instead of yours? Either way, I’m sure we can arrange it.
Results from last night:
MVC3
1st - Blake (Wesker/Storm/Chun)
2nd - Olli (Zero/Spencer/Task)
3rd - M.C. (Cap/Ryu/Hag)
4th - Adam (Wolvie/Akuma/Hulk)
5th - DTJB (Dead/Sent/Skrull)
6th - Alex (Viper/Modok/Doom)
7th - MysticBill (Arthur/Hag/Phoenix)
8th - Jackie (Dante/Shuma/Dorm)
9th - Corey (Hulk/Ammy/Hag)
10th - Stocks (Mags/Trish/Dante…I think)
Holy crazy. James 2-0’d Bill, Adam keeps Alex from getting out of pools, Corey was a hit away from an upset both against me AND Bill, and Haggar reverse OCV’d twice…once without XFC. Fun farewell to Vanilla MVC3 for the weekly tourneys.
Tekken 6
1st - MysticBill (Marduk, whoever he felt like)
2nd - Alex (Julia)
3rd - M.C. (Asuka)
4th - Olli (Jack)
5th - DTJB (Ling), Adam (Lili)
7th - Corey (Jack)
Bill proves again that he’s hella solid, even with Marduk. Slops to Alex for losing to me first round. I shouldn’t be winning against you in that game. Ever. At least you brought it back and demolished me in losers finals…I think I would’ve been more upset if I’d actually WON that.
Next week is UMVC3. Secondary tourney is Arcana Heart 3 (free tourney).
I played you with my eyes closed during the winners bracket to see if I could beat you like that (wasn’t sure if you noticed). I think I got a few rounds off that way, but when it came to losers bracket I thought I might as well try at that point. shrugs
I can probably bring set up numero tres, but where are we going to put the Dreamcast?
Also, 2 days to go until F-4! Venue said they have 4 CRT TVs. All of them have RF connectors and some have the yellow/white/red connectors. I’ll be going down there later in the afternoon to check them out. Anything else you guys can bring would be really helpful.
Scott, I’ll be driving us to Dubuque Saturday. Jackie said we could all meet at your place if she can park her car there. I plan to leave around 11:15ish. What is your address?
The Dreamcast, though it’ll probably always come with me to Tuesdays, is getting second billing to UMVC3 for the time being. I like the idea of having two setups for UMVC3 after the tourney and one for whatever secondary tourney we have.
I’ll have the Asus monitor and either one or two CRTs, depending on if my wife helps me lug the thing out to the car. If they say they don’t need 'em, fine, but they’re coming with me into the venue.
Remind me to test 3Soe between a CRT and an Asus monitor while I’m there. If it’s lag free on the CRT, you can guess what we’re using.
I text’d a few people today about this and, though nothing is 100% concrete, I’m pretty sure I’ll be running another DBQ BBQ tourney in either late March or early April. This one’s a bit special, though. Ready for this?
Every event is 2v2. And all of the games are either old generation games or re-releases of them.
Interested? Tell me what you want me to run. The list will be short…probably 5 or 6 events, 7 at the absolute most, and everything will be run in one day (shouldn’t be too difficult with everything being 2v2). $10 per team ($5 per person), and as of right now no venue fee…I think I might be getting the place for free. The preliminary list is:
3rd Strike OE (PS3)
SSF2T HDR (PS3)
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (PS2)
Tekken Tag Tournament Pair Play (PS2)
Mystery Tournament Team Battle (every game will be 2v2 simultaneous, either like Tekken Tag’s Pair Play mode or Smash Bros. Team Battle mode) (PS2/DC/GC/PS3)
Now then. Let’s get the biggest criticism of this out of the way. “But Hogosha, no one will go to this with SSF4AE2012/UMVC3/SC5/Skullgirls/SFxT/KOF13 recently released!” One, screw your nay-saying you basement-dwelling nerd. And two, you’re right. Kinda. I don’t really care if I don’t get 200 people at this thing like most do whenever they flash SF4/MVC3/BRAHL on a forum post. In fact, the venue I’ll probably have isn’t very big so if I get more than 40 we’ll be pretty cramped. (And no, it’s not Comic World.)
In other words, I’m aiming at getting a bunch of people together from the old days that enjoy a good Iowa tournament and, more so, a good time with friends. Iowa tournaments have never been about big money and huge productions. They’ve been about Curtis’ hat, Sonny talking about dat H, and me getting everyone breakfast in the morning. They’ve also been about a good relationship with Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri and (hopefully) Illinois. And that’s what I want.
So. Tell me what YOU want at this tournament and I’ll see what I can and can’t do to get you to show up.
Are you planning on doing TTT on ps2, for sure? I was planning on getting the HD ps3 version when it comes out later this month. I have a feeling pair play will be way easier to do on ps3.
Just got back from venue, they have 6 tables and 5 CRTs for set ups; I convinced them they can fit 2 TVs on a table for a total of 12. One of the TVs needs an adapter to use the yellow/white/red cables but they have that taken care of. Only issue I have is that while they have a projector set up for all the finals, I wanted to see if it was possible to connect a system to a monitor, then connect that to the projector like everyone else does; small screen for the players, big screen for the viewers. I was told they never considered it but that they can handle it. I’m still uncertain on if they can do this though. I can bring a CRT with plug ins on the front and back…but just in case this can’t do the job I want, can anyone else help out with that?
Anyway, I’ll need 7 more monitors for the 12 monitor set up. I’m sure we’ll have enough by now but bring stuff just in case. By the way, there will be fig things.
Looked into it before I made the post. Sadly, tournament Pair Play will be IMPOSSIBLE on the PS3, depending on what model you have. Most people have systems with 2 USB ports. With those you either need wireless controllers/sticks, which are a headache and illegal at most tournaments, or use a USB hub and deal with a decent amount of lag. Systems with 4 ports can get by this, but you won’t find many of those anymore with the slims being the new Sony standard.
I guess the question is this: Are you making wireless illegal at this? If not, a simple sync to that station should solve that issue. Everyone will just have to be extra careful about turning their controllers off.
