Interplay Announces ClayFighter Remake in 2010

Well I for one cannot wait to go to ClayFighter tournaments…What a random idea this is.

didnt it say they are making a new clayfighters not remaking an old one?

if it is new it could be good.
it not impossible.

Looks like it’s official. Shouts to SalsaShark on GAF for the info. Now rise thread and attack all who oppose you. Link to the original story on Nintendo Everything.

This information comes from Nintendo Power?

    -For Nintendo DSiWare

Based of that info it seems to be 63 1/3 with the Sculptor’s Cut characters in it. I don’t know if the WiiWare version still stands or if it will come to XBLA/PSN but we’ll have to wait and see.

Yeah, now is for DSiWare and not for Wii… huh.

Whatever, i will play it just for the lulz.

Thread title disappoints… thought we were getting a new Clayfighter game, not just a port.

Awesome! That’s news I can get behind. I loved 63 1/3. I mean, as a fighting game, it was terrible…but, I thought it was a lot of fun.

Hopefully this iteration is not just a port. I want to see some actual improvement. Like, give High Five an actual moveset. Make command grabs not a sisyphean task to actually complete. Make the fighting system like it was in 63 1/3: a lot like Killer Instinct.

…bah. It’s probably too much to ask. Still, I shall await more news.

they may as well sculpt their characters out of shit and name it “clay fighter 69.00192” something gay and unfunny like that.

No Ickybod? WTF?

Wait a minute. Why was SC worse than 63 1/3?

I’m pretty sure he’s included in the game. base on all the info so far, it’s sounds like they’re using the Sculptors Cut roster.

I don’t have the SNES entries atm, but I do have 63 1/3. Still trying to get Sculptor’s Cut. The only thing I know about the game system for SC is that they took out the KI mechanics, which is a good thing I would assume.

No Wiiware version? I hope that is still possible. If they make the new game a balanced mix of 63 1/3 and Sculptor’s Cut, that be cool.

I played the game and yea, they took out the KI mechanics and the side walk. I’m just curious to why Stuart Hayden prefers 63 1/3 over SC.

interest lvl falls through floor

fuck this game.

Tried playing Sculptors Cut. Didn’t like it. I messed around in an emulator with Bad Mr. Frosty (my favorite character back on the SNES) then Icybod and the combos are really weird. I didn’t look up anything on gamefaqs, but I couldn’t link most of the time off of meaties, could barely link off of Jabs and Shorts. It didn’t have MVC or Fatal Fury-styled autocombos. The combos are just weird. The air-blocking was a bad idea in this game. The problem is with the background, depends on your position, but you can run away the entire time because most of the time there’s no edge for the arena. I like the characters though, and fuck you haters playing as Earthworm Jim and Boogerman makes it worth checking out. There really shoulda’ been a Boogerman sequel. That was a good game.

Agreed. Sculptor’s Cut to me seems like a very, very ghetto version of Super Street Fighter 2('course, this is Clay Fighter we’re talking about). Nobody really had any great combos(though, I do believe there were infinites), and there were just some weird things in it. Like…certain characters had longer durations of hitstun. I think the Zappa Yow Yow Boyz had a particular hitstun animation that allowed every character to get combos that they can’t do against any other character. I can’t think of any other fighting game that gives a particular characters longer durations of hitstun. Air blocking had virtually no blockstun, so if you were air-to-air against another character and you blocked one of their aerial attacks, you could immediately retaliate and almost always hit them with your aerial attack.

Command throws were also a big pain in the ass. There were no “whiff animations” for command throws, so you had no idea if you were even successfully doing the move unless you were at POINT BLANK range. The good thing about command throws in that game is that they successfully work against grounded opponents. So, if you were playing as T.Hoppy or Lady Liberty, just sweep, walk up and command throw/super throw and there’s nothing they can do.

Granted, 63 1/3 wasn’t that much better(I think there were more infinites in that game), but I don’t think it had as many problems as Sculptor’s Cut did.

You can also combo into your command throw KOF style, and as far as I know there was no damage scalling in that game.

And Ultimate you’re right about the infinites. Since they took out the side movement, character wouldn’t slide sideways when juggled along the wall so they’d just just stay in the same position and keep getting hit until they ran out of life. You can also do this during aerial block stun. Of course like you mentioned, they can attempt to attack out of their air blockstun but if they whiff, they’ll eat the infinite.

another bad thing about SC (and I think this was in 63 1/3 also) is you’re vunerable during landing animation. So if you land on the ground right when an attack comes you’ll eat it everytime. That and the fact that it takes awhile to change directions when the opponent switches sides are the two things that frustate me about the game. I hope they fix this (and buff Lady Liberty) in the upcoming remake.

Yeah, I’m trying the original 63 and 1/3rd and the combos are pretty solid, and I like the inclusion of combo breakers. The stages are still too big though. There’s actual crossups, holy shit. It’s functional and the characters are fun. That’s the only good thing I can say about it. * The 400 hit combos are pretty amusing, and when you think about it they are a kind of prelude to the ultras in SF4. The music is absolute trash though. But if the devs fixed a few things, and tightened it all up, it’d be a solid little fighter. I doubt it’ll happen though because we’re not the target audience and the dsiware game is a pretty desperate cash grab.

*Added note.

They need to bring back…

Hobocop!

Who is Hobocop? Glad you asked. He was intended for CF63 1/3, but removed completely, possibly because he was a complete drunk, perpetuating the homeless stereotype. Images of him are floating around the 'net, and some are viewable at Unseen64.
