Input lag in 3S: OE?

Visually, no.

Playing it, yes you’ll notice frame 1-2 differences.

Ya’ know, Keits said that there’s some input lag for PS3 in MVC3… and yet Evo used PS3’s and not one single complaint was uttered.

Again, pointless thread complaining about nothing.

While that is definitely true (regarding perceiving the lag), the issue is more along the lines of the quality of the gameplay and input responsiveness. In this generation of consoles, lag has become an ever present issue because of several factors: 1)The increasing complexity in the archeitecture of today’s console’s, ie there is a helluva lot of processing power that needs to be harnessed and minor hiccups along the way may happen, 2) HD televisions and monitors are now the norm, rather than your run of the mill crt tvs and monitors and 3) The final most common form of lag that every gamer has experienced is delay during online play. People aren’t saying, “Wtf 2 more frames of lag, the hell with it, I’m done.” Its simply that people want an experience that is akin to the game they’ve known. Heck, the guys at Infinity Ward actually put in the time to fine tune the responsiveness of the COD series, and considering we are discussing a fighting game (where input response is arguably a greater issue than in shooters). We criticise people for having concerns about lag? Sounds pretty strange to me.

Then don’t post in it.

A thread was just locked asking “why not use 360s at EVO?” in FGD listing input lag as one of the reasons to switch.

There was a thread in the EVO section complaining that some stations were laggy and they should’ve checked to make sure the 1080p was unchecked on the PS3 at every station.

No one is saying you can’t adjust to the lag. That’s why people prepare for tourneys on whatever console the tourney uses and warm up at the casual stations. It is an issue when most if not all your experience is on one medium and you have little to none at the other.

I’m actually referring to the players AT Evo complaining. Not some random dude on SRK who never played in a tournament in his life. Just seems like you guys are looking for any minor thing to complain about.

What is even the input lag on the arcade version? Need to have that for those console numbers to mean anything…

The fuck you say?

fuck obd though ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You’re east coast and I’ve never seen you in a tournament or IRL casual session, nor does anyone that I know. This includes people who have played since the birth of fucking 3s.

You have the right to whine though.

Idk about everybody else, but I sure as hell notice the 3 frame difference on PS3.

What if 3SO is literally the ONLY media on the system? I cleaned my computer from old STEAM games that I didn’t play anymore, and a bunch of movies and programs I don’t use. That made GGPO feel noticeably better. Could I say the same for 3SO on the PS3 / 360?

I was only making an inference from that blog post thing. I have no idea if that would help.

The only thing that would maybe help the 360 would be to clear your Hard drive’s cache every once in a while.

It improves load times, and will drastically reduce system freezes/slowdowns.

would be really interesting to see a test like this done with 3rd strike on arcade, ps2, dreamcast, and 3soe.

Agreed!

Like, I’m really surprised people haven’t done the input lag test for arcade 3s already (maybe it’s been done somewhere?), people have been anal about differences between arcade and ps2 3s anniversary collection since it came out. Now would be a good time to do it though, it would be a good test for determining how “arcade perfect” 3soe is (even though it’s just a buzzword nowadays)

Brilliant video!

Who’s got a CPSIII board/cab and a Dreamcast to test this though? Hell, if some 3s enthusiast can pull this off why not grab an original xbox too so we can settle ALL lag debates for good.

well to be honest i think the most important would be:

ps2
arcade
ps3 3soe
xbox 360 3soe

dc and xbox arent important.

I understand that the ps2 was the old console standard, making original xbox irrelevant, and the DC was messed up in more ways than just possible speed differences but I always wanted to know the answer to the debate of ps2 vs xbox anniversary edition.

Had to give away my ps2 so I’ve been practicing on the xbox version for the last little while. I’m playing it on my 360 and it has retarded choppiness sometimes that I blame on the emulation but knowing if the xbox version of the game is actually the slowest of the three would be nice. As I recall the debate went something like this:
ps2>arcade>xbox
(fastest to slowest)

Would love to know but at the end of the day your absolutely right ryan.

What? Xbox is as fast if not a bit faster than the PS2 version. Arcade is the slowest/smoothest of any version.
