This just in ! SSFIV Grand Finals and Third Strike vids are finally live from T3 this past Saturday !
Make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already, Oh I know that you guys are looking for that Mahvel. I’ll have that up in the morning
For the next Tilt get-together, I’ll bring my copy of MK for 360. I almost brought it at T3, but I had assumed that there would be at least one other copy there.
I have come the conclusion that “NapTown” as a whole does not seem interested in getting together on a weekly basis to level up, get some games in and generally have a “community”…we all just like to sit behind the computer and talk shit about other communities around the nation and what we need to do in order to make are “Scene” stronger…only to do nothing about it in the end.
Sorry guys. I’m just kinda salty, I just got back from Tilt and NO ONE was there but Rob…he works at Tilt, so that does not count. There was no one there on a Ten Buck Tuesday…again. I was still riding the high of Saturdays T3 and I figured some of the hype would still be there. So I got my beast of a set up together, hopped in the car and brought my ass to Tilt…and to my surprise no one is there. I would really like to get better at Marvel and Super but as of now I don’t see that happening anytime soon b/c I have no one to play w/.
Online play is not a substitute for one on one experience…and I would really like to get that experience b/c I’m ass at Marvel and my Super skills are slowly fading away. So me and Rob have come to the decision to start traveling to W. Lafayette (Purdue, a fucking hour away) every other tuesday in order to get some games in and level up.
The reason that I would like to go “every other tuesday” is because I would like to give the local NapTown community a chance to get off there ass and start coming to Tilt on Tuesday Nights…But as of now I’m planning to start traveling to W.Lafayette for there weekly Ranbat and sessions.
I know that we are all busy and life does not stop and start at my convenience…but I think that we can all come together at least once a week. All we have to do is agree on a time and place, Ten Buck Tues seems to make the most sense…and I have no problem bringing my setup. I leave the rest up to you guys, I can’t make you come.
If anyone would like to roll w/ me and Rob to W. Lafayette next Tuesday (May 3rd) PM me. Hopefully I’ll see you guys at Tilt some time…the next time I’ll be up there will be May 10th between 4pm - 5pm.
I think a large part of the problem is that we don’t really have many good places to meet. Tilt is okay but it’s in kind of an inconvenient and expensive location compared just playing at someone’s house, especially considering we have to haul our own equipment up there or else play essentially two games on cabinets that may or may not be working at the time. The main benefit of Tilt is that it’s a public place, but that also makes us subject to their rules, curfews, and equipment maintenance.
That doesn’t mean that Tilt is completely useless or that we should abandon it, but there are many reasons why people don’t show up there all the time beyond simple laziness. If we really want to see a regular turnout at Tilt we need something like Weekly T3s, where people know that we will have a designated area that we can use and that there will be a decent turnout. Driving twenty minutes or more downtown to park and walk all the way up to Tilt, possibly hauling some equipment, only to find broken cabinets, no players, or even a closed arcade has turned off more than a couple players.
I will probably try to start hosting again soon, although my location is not too convenient for many people and I rarely get much of a turnout.
Laziness and being cheap has a lot to do w/ it my friend…a perfect example is PowerUp 2011. A major tournament is happening 2hrs away from Indianapolis and as far as I know only me, G and a handful of players from Ft. Wayne are going…When everyone from Indiana should be going. Period.
I’ll re-assert that we should find a cheap venue we can use weekly, and save Tilt for the gatherings on the level of NTC and T3.
I mean, it has a lot going for it, and yet conversely, as Kyle stated, we’re kind of screwed in some respects.
Pros:
Public Venue
Large-ish Space
Food and Shops nearby
Weekly specials
Staff support
Cons:
Possibly broken equipment, with no way to tell when it will be fixed. (Specifically for the Fighting cabs. I’m going to put in an application, and request that we get those cabs some much needed attention, a little more regularly than they are.)
Parking can either be really easy, or a downright hassle
Our tournaments easily run over CC Malls closing time
And, as much as I’d like for our local community to be like the ones of the days of yore, I just don’t think we have the right player climate for that sort of turnout. Outside of those of us here, and a few that keep track through the others, Indianapolis isn’t really a gamer city, unfortunately.
I’ve also gone down, either by myself, or with a friend, on Tuesdays, and no one is around, or the Super machine is toast.
There’s no being cheap or lazy about it. I’m damn near broke, and I live effectively outside of the county. It’s $40 every time I go, whether I actually get to play or not. I even go when I’m fairly certain no one will be there.
I also can’t go to PowerUp because I have shit to do so I can transfer schools this fall during this weekend. I’d love to go, I really would, but real life has me by the nuts right now, and I have to get that straight.
I’m fairly confident it’s the same for a select few.
Well at least you feel me a little bit…but let me break this down.
Possibly Broken Equipment = Bring your own set up. I know it’s a hassle, but if all we would really need is Four set ups. Two for SSFIV and Two for Mahvel.
Parking at Circle Center Mall is $1.50 for 3 hrs…I think it’s $6 to $8 for 4-5 hrs. Tilt closes at 9pm on Tues…so if we were to meet from 4pm til 9pm it’s hella cheap.
Rob told me that all Tilt is looking for is a $5 dollar venue fee if we were looking to bring are own set ups. So at most we are talking $15 dollars or so for venue fee and parking. Once a week. Yeah it starts to add up, but you invest in your hobbies. $15 is not that bad…
The fact of the matter is that Tilt is the only option we really have locally. I can’t think of another place in the city where we could pop off like we do at Tilt…and have there support.
I’m sure that once people read these post they will sound off and give me a endless list of reasons why they don’t / can’t come and that’s fine. I’m not trying to put Nap on blast…I’m just a lil salty that’s all.
I’ve come up w/ a solution for myself…and that’s to travel.
LOL. I’m not “Giving up” I love you guys and the NapTown community…but I want to get better. And the only way for that to happen is for me to travel until we as a community come up w/ a solid weekly gathering. I’m going to Purdue next Tuesday and I’m going to smash up to Tilt on May 11th (Two weeks from today).
W.Lafayette every other week and Tilt every other week. I really want to see how they do it at Purdue. Then if we can come up w/ something I would love to get w/ the NapTown players once a week…until then by weekly trips to both venues is the plan.
I would have shown up at T3 if I had known about it
I can vouch for the “being broke” part. I don’t usually hit up arcades because I’d rather own the game and play for free, but I’m always down to head over somewhere for matches. Like I said, I can bring a couple things to help out but I had no clue what’s up as far as where and when shit’s going down.
LOL I just found out that Purdue Ranbats are done…classes are done and it’s bout to be summer time. Great. Welp…I’ll be at Tilt every tuesday until someone finally get’s get…Setup in tow.
I’m moving to naptown in august and I better not be in a city with nobody’s money to take in super! Is there no momos style place to hold tourneys or meetings? Hold another Naptown Clutch/Clash/etc and advertise the shit out of it, I won’t lie T3 was a disappointment to come down and only have 6 people enter super, but if shit went down more often I bet a lot of people from T3 would come to a weekly ranbat. Add some prereg too because paying $10 venue fee does suck when you have to get first to do anything more than break even haha…
And as far as equipment goes - at our ranbats we usually have 2 setups for marvel and super each (sometimes less…today it was 2 super during teams tourney, 1 for marvel/mk9 and 1 for mystery game) and that’s always plenty, we’ll even go down to 1 marvel setup during super tourneys so we can get it moving. I can def bring my 360 and a copy of marvel, super and mk9 if we can get monitors.
i’d be going all the time, but i can’t get a ride. I’ve only had my friend to play and he’s no longer in state. Maybe if I could get a ride/someone who can carpool, I’d definitely be appearing more often. i play mainly PS3 pad though until i can buy a stick.
I agree about location too, as my family really needs to manage their money now, so i can’t really be spending 10-20 bucks at the moment, but i could definitely play casuals at peeps houses.
Any of you guys live around Rockville or close to or within Sungate(where i live)?
Okay i’d like to have something to say about Tilt in general…
The parking is insane on Saturdays, it’s usually when you have your tournaments? plus parking gets more crucial on that day anyway. I’ll give some reasons why having tournaments in downtown sucks.
No one really likes driving downtown
As I said, the parking is annoying and sometimes can be expensive
Having just 360 tournaments or just ps3 tournaments kills the attendance whether or not one console has the majority on the other.
I’m still new to the srk community I came from brawl lol, so this is all new to me about which console should be used. Brawl is a bit more organized cause it’s just on one console rather then 2.
Hmm, yep that’s it for me. Oh yeah, did you guys like that Dugout location for the people that went?
