The players are 2 at a time, and are matched up p2p. Having 2 play and 4 watching in a 3v3 match is no different from having 2 play and 4 (or 6) watch in a normal 1v1 lobby match.
Just played someone with a green bar and i had a blue bar. Played about 10 matches, it was smooth. With the patch its only going to get better.
Folks stop jumping the gun, in this industry everything works in patches. Support SNK or this type of fighters will die forever.
Honestly, I was not going to grab the game until patch, but I feel project justice is right. SNK needs resources to improve its product through patches, and the game isnt that bad, its just people complaining and being pissy about gripes or a bunch of bull rumors.
Im going to follow Projectjustice’s advice and pick this game up later today. Look forward to playing people.
Well my quick review of the game is that the offline mode is pretty much fail. Just like the arcades you only have 5 matches and the game is over. However two of those matches are already wasted as the AI does nothing but whiff attacks on the other side of the screen until they die. You can however replay the last two matches for a total 4 actual matches where the CPU fights back, but even at the highest difficulty they can be steam rolled through.
Now for the online, it’s safe to say it’s terrible if you are expecting/demanding GGPO quality. I did have one, and only one good quality match so far, and the game really took off from there. How the game handles lacency is almost exactly like SFIV where the game will slow down as much as possible to keep the inputs going. I honestly prefer this method compared to the game running at normal speed but the command inputs are the ones that lag. I don’t think that’s gonna make people feel better, because a bad connection is a bad connection.
It also doesn’t help at all that you can’t search/sort the lobbies by ping quality. I’m online right now and it looks like there are 17 rooms available, and as mentioned before there doesn’t seem to be an option to create team rooms so far, maybe you have to be in a clan to unlock the option?
As for the prospects of this game, it doesn’t look good, maybe the game will sell out in japan who was SNKP’s target audience anyway, and from that sales income they’ll patch both version of the game? Right now, it’s gonna take a herculean effort from the community, maybe through like twitter or the forums, to help players find good connections with other players, so we can all enjoy the game.
Now this ping bar system, can someone toss up a screenshot at what we’re supposed to be looking at? I don’t see a bar, I just see a box with thunder on it, and it’s either blue, yellow, or red, and I’m assuming that red is a bad connection while blue is the best? I’m on PS3 btw.
King of fighters XII’s core gameplay itself is the most exciting for me. Characters that I thought I were pretty bad, like Athena, I found out that I could win with over my usual cast. If you were practicing on 2002 or 98, you were just wasting your time, as almost nothing character specific transfers over. I think players that manned C. Viper in SFIV will probably have an easier time adjusting to XII’s game mechanics and any hardcore KOF player. The gameplay definitely has a lot of potential though, and I haven’t counted online play out just yet, so I’m gonna keep practicing until a patch comes or the community dies out.
One last thing, I think the replay feature is pretty good, I wish it were possible to spectate matches without having to participate like in GGPO, but whatever. Now that this game is in homes, I can definitely see an increase in overal exposure of the game and it’s players through the ease of the replay system. After every match players can choose whether or not to save their fight, and can watch it over and analyze their playstyles. Then if you really like the match there’s an upload button so you can show off your video to everybody else.
Nothing about the fighting engine?
What kind of review is that?
Im sad I only have xbox because they dont even know when the patch will be up hopefully in a week before ps3 patch its going to kill 360 sales IMO.
All my connections so far haven’t shown more than 2 bars. Some of them play at almost normal speeds, some play like slow motion. I’m hoping a friend of mine picks up the game so I can see how it compares to SFIV.
If anyone is in Indy or around the great lakes with it, add me on PSN.
The reason why they don’t know is because with every patch/dlc variant that comes out, Microsoft has to clear it first. I doubt it will be any longer than 3 days for it after release.
You wont be disappointing in the gameplay, the fighting engine is fantastic.
Also confirming terribad netcode.
Also if you get dc’d before the match even starts because of “unable to connect” you get your name flagged in red like a rage quitter. Great job SNK!!! :lame:
This was their last chance with me… don’t think I’ll ever be picking up another one of their games.
Some of you guys sound like abused dogs, flinching and barking at damn near anything. Wasn’t BlazBlue’s netcode atrocious pre-patch? Now it’s great. And since we already know a patch is coming for XII then we might as well sit and see instead of getting our panties in a knot so prematurely
Or you know… you could just wait for people in the forum to review the game before you buy it. Just a suggestion. Never buying a game just because of online first impressions seems pretty dumb considering popular games like Gears of War 2 had connection problems in the first week or so. Guess what it’s fixable.
Can someone confirm how well they play against someone in the same city/state as you? Like a friend?
Whoa chill out bro. Sorry I want to vent about preordering a game and getting excited to play it after I get home for the day only to find one of its key features is broken  Yeah I bought it before word of mouth came out? So what? Would you rather none of us idiots were around so you’d have to take a shot in the dark instead?
I’ve got to admit, they gameplay is very fun. Lots of potential if/when they fix the netcode. Great game so far…
Just let people vent out their anger, in the end those who enjoy the game will not have any qualms.
Considering that this is an online game, there will be times when connections will be shitty, but that comes with every game like that. I doubt SNK would just throw out one of their biggest franchises without really looking into the problem immediately. That would tarnish their reputation and I doubt they would want that again.
I’m going to wait until tuesday to pick this up and test it out myself.
it seemed bad at first , my first 5 matches, but it got better, idk but i hope it truely improves
There’s supposed to be a patch, and even then Ignition had said the game’s “official” release date was the 28th (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_of_Fighters_XII).
I would say try again then, as this sounds like it’s supposed to be a “day one” patch. All I can say after trying it is it definitely needs it, but it’s still a great game.
I played 7 matches. I haven’t found anything better than yellow/red bars, and all those matches were unplayable. Yellow was 1 second delay, red had delay and tons of stutter.
Kind of off topic, kind of not–but I hope whatever patch is coming addresses the fact that the sound effects are WAAAYY too low. I’m on 360, anyone else experiencing this problem? Changing the settings in the menu doesn’t seem to help.
