You wondered about how we are “allowed” to have firearms. The answer is that nobody is in a position to allow or disallow U.S. citizens to have firearms. It is an issue of how much leeway a government is to be given to restrict the freedom of its citizens. This is one of several areas in which our guys (largely in reaction to your guys) decided that allowing the government to have that kind of power is a quick and easy path to tyranny.

Then there is the separate issue of whether or not the citizens conduct themselves responsibly (which, incidentally, most of them do) and the problems that might arise thereof. Regardless of those problems, giving the government the power to treat its citizens like children or prisoners is not the answer.

And that same issue is at the heart of surveillance. That isn’t to say that our government can’t pull it off, but it cannot do so without pushing and potentially exceeding the lawful limits of its own power. We push back against it. We argue over its merits. We don’t tune it out while a whole conga line of CCTV cameras watches us fill our plates in the buffet line. We don’t wonder why governments don’t take away people’s privacy and other rights as a means of solving problems.

I didnt post in here to question the rights of American citizens. I dont really want to get roped into a debate on a number of issues. The point of my post came from a perspective on whether it is right and humane in 2012 for your average guy or girl to walk around carrying a firearm. I come from a place where firearms are illegal. You come from the opposite. My original post was put out there to see if the average American would be for or against guns, given the damage they are likely to cause on any given day. Maybe I am a bit too anti-guns, because Rock Bogart might have taken my post the wrong way. You too, perhaps. Pointing out some things about where I live. I meant no offence.

I dont want to provoke you or insult the country you come from. I find it interesting that ‘rights’ are often brought up when guns are being discussed. I wonder if people only give a shit because other people have guns too? This is what I am trying to find out. If people didnt have guns, the police would most likely not carry guns. No Aurora, Blacksburg, Tucson etc? These are only positives I thought of in a minute. If you feel the opposite, what would be the negative impact if guns were banned? What purpose are guns serving in America?

You’re trying to make a point here, but from what I understand CCTV is just as widely used in our cities as it is in yours. And as for armed guards, they are only at airports, embassies, major train stations and Buckingham Palace. We don’t have armed police outside a Toys R Us or a McDonalds. :wtf:

This happened at the gas station about three minutes from where I live. I remember the night it happened, I was actually at the Walgreens across the street earlier. It’s feeling kind of weird at this point that the jury is continually debating. Then again, they have a few charges piled rolled up into one trial that they need to sort out before they can come back to give a verdict.

No, the rule is don’t tell a nigga they’re fucking up. You’ll have no legal right to defend yourself when they start a physical altercation, offended by your attempt to help them conduct themselves in a civil manner.

The dude asked the kids to turn it down. They did, from what I understand, but then started talking shit and making threats. The white guy asked “Are you referring to me?”, and one guy got out while another allegedly lifted something into view that the defendant claims he thought was a shotgun. Bang. A simple “Hey, man, my bad.” would have defused the situation, but…well…niggas trying to act tough in front of their friends.
