lol grabbing close range ex dash straight (point blank is easier) is not easy

Its not too hard to predict when its coming. They normally throw it after a TAP and if they see you mashing too much. Plus its -2 on block, so they cannot follow up with anything safely. And if they do it on wake up you can use the cr.lk to do the auto block i mentioned.
That’s the specific problem with Rog though. A lot of Dudley’s options against Rog are guesses that are mostly punishable. Of course, every match-up has guessing, but a ton of Dudley’s guesses/counters to dash punch/ex are punishable with a dash punch if they whiff. I was wondering if you guys had more sure fire methods to get that first knockdown.
the main problem with this matchup is if a balrog plays lame,
lame balrog will beat any dudley player always.
People earlier where talking about focusing full screen dash punches (it’s a scrub tactic, I know. But I play a lot of online scrubs.)
Wouldn’t the better solution be to nj.HK to st.HK xx EX MGB to whatever depending on where you are.
This way you’re never going to get armor broken and the damage is pretty similar.
This should also work on TAPs.
I know this is nothing too insightful, but I’m trying to get better and want to feel like i’m contributing something.
It’s not going to work on a tap from range since Dudley will neutral jump into the hitbox.

You can hit a TAP in the hitbox with the s.hk if you do it right. I’ve done it a couple times. And it wasnt just any Balrog we’re talking here, so its not a scrub tactic. I’ve played against PR Rog a few times and caught a lot of his TAPs when I’m concentrated enough.
Note: I’m not saying I beat him, just saying that i’ve played against him here in PR and have done the things i mentioned here and worked every time.
Good Balrogs are just walking back and ruining anything I can pull to get closer, any tips ? It’s even worse than getting stuck on the corner, I obviously can’t jump in, my normals will all whiff, and a random straight punch will keep pushing me away, and when I walk him enough to the corner, he will just assume a more offensive plan, seriously…
… He won’t even let me focus, gonna get tapd as soon as I press the buttons.
You can only really focus when the Rog player isn’t aware the you either know to focus or when they go into autopilot with their usage of dash straight. The only real sure-fire strategy is patience and buffer tons of shit when the Rog player doesn’t have meter. Btw, I can totally second what East said. Crouch short target combo > Rog wake-up except for backdash.
Its not always the best idea, but you’d be surprised as how much cross up thunderbolt works on turtling Rogs. I’d advise having the two meters to make it safe with FADC.

That was me who said that about the target combo. Its GDLK.
Damn, my meaty timing must suck because meaty crouch short should beat every single attacking option Rog has on a wake-up, but I still get tagged by his Ultra. Also the target combo on counter-hit is +3 so you can style on Rog after you blow up the ex punching. It is very hard to do though.
PSN Dudleys on this thread.
Add me. I main Rog and was looking for a Dudley to fight!
I don’t fight many good Dudleys and I’m looking for one!

I’ll be on tonight
I’ll add you, but no guarantees since Rog is the hardest match for me by far.
sure. Just add and msg me
I don’t know what it is about this game, I go from losing 8-0 vs Cody on the warm-up cabs to knocking off a Boxer player with 16 wins on the main cabs… I notice I can punish a lot of his charge moves mid-animation just before he lunges into the punch frames, bait wake-up headbutts and the messy looking rounds are mine. I can get quite a few dizzies in the match-up from not even bothering with combos.
Good Rog players are not throwing out the dash punches in a way that you’re going to tag them in the middle of the animation most of the time. Also, good Rogs don’t wake-up headbutt they EX Dashpunch or block. Why would you wake-up against Dudley with a move that is so slow he can meaty crouch short and then block after?
usually you’ll be blocking alot of dash straights just like blocking fei longs rekka in this mu. just a matter of closing space and worrying about dash straight and cr.hk, those are the only moves that balrog can keep me out with.
There are two places where you can be at when fighting Rog that will benefit Dudley a bunch.

Outside his lp dash straight range, that way you can either react with Ultra 2 (Yes! Ultra 2, anyone who uses Ultra 1 is wrong!) to any of his dash punches, or you can do st.hk with EX MGB pre buffered (Ive been doing this since the start and its given me very good results, even against top Balrog players). Balrog can do the step dash straight which is a bit of a problem but you can also focus the dash punch, even hit with lvl1 if youre not sure and back dash.
-
Outside his cr.hk range which you can punish with st.hp, or even focus his sweep for a nice crumple.
Also, know how to block against Balrog and dont mash crouch tech because HE WILL COUNTER HIT YOU, lol. Focus is one of Dudley’s best friends in this matchup. Learn to do Dudley’s blockstrings right. Also dont rush Balrog recklessly, everyone that does it against a good rog will die.
