Also wouldn’t fuck over us people who have been crouch teching for 3 years now.
At least you still throw out moves and don’t get rekt on whiffed throws xD
Problem is they’re making the game work where everyone gets anime movement or something crazy when they pop V Trigger so I think it’ll be hard to convince them to also give people any faster walk speeds at this point.
Hopefully enough top players tweet about it during the beta, but the way the game is working it seems they already have an agenda in place. Long story short, if you wanna walk speed people down Chun is probably your only real option. Cammy has good buttons too at least.
Wow dude so happy I contacted amazon somehow I didn’t qualify because I pre ordered toon early, they told me to cancel my pre order aND re order to get the promotion.
Seems mashing DP’s is still too easy, at least isn’t cancellable anymore…but looking 2 players throw up some DP’s like there’s no tomorrow is kinda meh.
Do you guys think not being able to win by chip is a good thing? What is the intended effect on SFV’s metagame?
I’ve heard people praise this mechanic, saying things along the lines of “now people can’t lame out wins”. Never mind the opinionated topic of chip wins being cheap or unearned, not being able to win by chip definitely will not make for a more skillful or hype match. I think people are imagining a zoner being forced get in there and fight like a real man to seal the deal. I imagine that a zoner, having the life lead against an opponent with literally one pixel of life left, is going to continue zoning and win either by the opponent getting hit trying to get in or by time up.
You can win with supers on chip, so how would you feel if the metagame evolved into “only use meter if it’s for the KO”?
If you’re going to take out chip deaths, then you need more offensive mechanics in the game than what SFV currently has. Some characters may be OK because of character specific stuff, but others will definitely be very disadvantaged when the game tells them they have to break their opponent’s defenses(or a few staple playstyles simply will not be in the game). No KO by chip is an anime fighter(gameplay) thing, but those games also have things like IAD, fast overheads, unblockables, etc. Maybe if throws were like in ST where you still take a bit of damage if you tech it but as it is now I think it’s going to break the meta.
Also, if they don’t want players to win in a certain way, why allow that method to be used during the other 99.99% of the match? If you don’t think it’s a legitimate way to win the round then why do you think it’s a legitimate way to deal damage at all? Take out all chip damage or allow chip to KO. If taking out KO by chip doesn’t break the game then taking out all chip damage shouldn’t either.
I think it’s worth trying to see how it plays out. We’re going to get 7 months or w/e of playtesting, seems they’ll be able to figure out of it’s good or bad.
I completely agree with everything you’ve said here. It is basically how I think about it as well.
As it is now, it’s almost like you get a new lifebar.
Think about it like this:
While you have lifebar you can get chipped and the onus is to not get chipped since it does damage.
But once you get down to zero life left you no longer take any chip damage… So now you have no onus to move at all save for the timer.
If it is me in that situation I’m just going to sit there and make my opponent come to me. If he doesn’t and I end up losing by time out I’ve still trolled the shit out of the game and made it very unfun to watch. And if he doesn’t I can still take my extreme time to see a pattern while I downback all day.
There’s another mechanic where you take no chip damage… X factor. Now of course this isn’t XF but the point remains that the match changes in the extreme once a character has no life since you can no longer chip them. To me this does inherently resemble XF.
Let it rock in the meantime for sure, but at this stage I can’t really see this making it into the game as is.
I’m fine with how it is. With how non-light normals deal chip damage now, people are gonna end up just randomly poking if you could die from chip in this game.
Special move chip should be what kills, normal move chip shouldn’t be allowed to kill.
To me this is an “of course” kinda thing. I couldn’t imagine a game where normal move chip killed. I can barely imagine one where special move chip doesn’t kill. From what I’ve seen of it already though it puts a bad taste in my mouth already. I can already see people getting lame comebacks via this mechanic or people such as myself just sit there and *ucking whistle for 30 seconds.
If it stays like this I fully expect to see super chip deaths all the time and that’s kinda a ridiculous way to be forced to use super. Or to have to save up for super. Or it will force people to make sure that they combo into dead. But it will be another one of those rage style 10% health mechanics that people are going to have to play around and at best will be very annoying. And at worst severely game changing.
XF allows you to take no chip damage and also does like 9 other things that are way cheaper than this no chip damage thing. Which again, this is no chip that is reserved ONLY for when you are the zero pixel. Not something you activate in the middle of the fight to shield you from chip. Don’t overstate it.
I think people are just scared of this because they haven’t played enough anime games where this is a standard thing. This is the first footsie type game probably ever where this is a standard, but with how strong the pressure will be in this game I see people eventually landing that throw/frame trap guess game and opening someone up for the win either way. In games like GG and Melty Blood it’s normal to put in that extra effort to win the matches and now it’s something we can learn to employ in a grounded game. Should be fun to see.
The game timer moves slower than old fighting games that run on real clock seconds or faster so you’d have to be laaame as all hell to have a chance at causing a timer scam with this. This is why the damage is so high so the odds of zero pixel timer scams will be low any ways because you will get your shit rocked by high damage first usually.
ALLSOOOO, supers ignore the zero pixel and kill so you can use supers to chip kill.
I’m not overstating it. This is not an anime game. There are no 13 frame overheads here. Or non reactable teleports that go fullscreen.
What is the zoning character supposed to do when he allows the opponent to get down to no life? At that point in time projectiles will become worthless. Against the no lifebar downbacker. If it’s a rushdown character then sure the handicap might not be as big… But it’s still a big handicap.
At that point you HAVE TO:
Get your opponent to walk into something…,which is best case scenario.
Or hit your opponent with a throw
Or a frame trap
Or a high/low/left/right mixup.
Whereas all your no life opponent has to do is sit and wait for you to come to him. It’s a turtles dream if the other guy is forced to attack. Or it’s a boring nothing happening at all for huge amounts of time death by time out.
The correct play here, the ONLY correct play is for the person in the lead to do nothing. And then if the person not in the lead also does nothing the game breaks down for whatever amount of time there is left.
I mean what would you do to stop ME from just sitting there on my one pixel?
If you move forward you are playing into my hands. If you don’t I’m trolling you. It’s like seriously lose lose.
Firstly we haven’t seen a true zoning character in the game yet, and the way this game is going the first zoner will most likely have mix up options strong enough to open you up on dead pixel or have a super with enough projectile range to chip out.
The timer in this game moves slowly enough and basic frame trap pressure is strong enough where someone can go in and pressure you until you take a throw/frame trap guess and have to burn a resource that will leave you with not a whole lot of options to win if they block. It’s not like this is SFIV with no true block strings and plenty of invincible stuff. Once people get near you in this game it’s going to be bad even if you can’t take any chip. The stuff that I hear Bison has when he’s in V Trigger, even with zero pixel buff you’re still going to get opened by something especially since his mobility is way better and has zero charge time in Trigger.
There’s just no reason to relate it to XF when like 10 anime games also do this. It’s just something new they’re trying in a footsie game that has very high damage hits, high damaging throws with short tech windows and plenty of anime shenanigans when V Triggers are popped. People will get opened up.
To be fair, the game does have a block breaker. People are just really shitty at meter management and planning for round ending scenarios at this point.
Yeah that’s right. Forgot about the guard crushes too. This is definitely a game where it’s easier to open someone up after getting near them than SFIV. You just dont have all the free vortex stuff off of hard knockdowns like before which is a good balance.
