I'm losing every single game

keep losing it can only get better from here

U gotta treat this game like its not a casual fun game and more of a competitive sport where the only people who play are people who live to be masterful in this game (like chess).

You gotta learn the basics and build your fundamentals first. You need guidance from the outside. As a complete novice beginner you won’t really understand what you are doing wrong by just watching your replays because you lack the knowledge that allows you to understand everything thats actually going on in the match.

I picked up the Hardcover SF 5 Prima Guide on Amazon.com and its like a textbook for SF 5 pretty much.

If you don’t mind studying (like in high school) you should pick it up and read up a bit. I learned alot of the Basics behind SF 5’s system from this book, like v-trigger, v-reversal, different crush counters and how you score them, understanding of spacing and the different priorities of normals throws and special moves.

It also explained something that I didn’t understand fully about the input buffer system. I didn’t even know what they meant by “input buffer system” until I read the whole explanation in the guide. Alot of the info within that explanation wasn’t even comonly mentioned in the various threads I was reading. Some threads people were posting had false info also, such as, 'capcom removed plinking in SF 5" which is not true.

The guide gives you insight on what you should be practicing on, and how to go about it, with the character you want to play.

Well worth the 25 bucks imo… comes with a code for the mobile version also with updates for 1 year (incase they change things within the game, making the book’s info irrelevant).

or you can stay a fat kid and this…

As a Mortal Kombat/Tekken/BlazBlue/Smash player I had to the same issues when I 1st got into SFV. I’ve played SFII, 3RD Strike, Alpha 3 but never really was captivated by Street Fighter enough to grind it out.

So my 2 days in SFV recorded a Win Loss record of 28-72 (1st 100) games. Could barely move myself out of Rookie/Bronze. I played a couple sets with some of my stream viewers who all bodied me about 5-0 or 10-0 depending on the Battle Lounge set. So I’ve been there. The struggle-boat.

The first part of the advice is don’t tilt/burnout because then you won’t even want to try to get good. Its okay to take a break & then bounce back. If you’re annoyed after losing 3 in a row, its going to make you play worse if you feel like youre trying to FORCE yourself to play until you get that ever elusive W. 2nd part of advice, Practice mode is just too good. Just like Guilty Gear XRD/Mortal Kombat X etc. these next gen Training modes are a godsend for new players. You can set the AI to do all the things that get you flustered, mad, annoyed, & discouraged. That way you can learn how to beat it in a no consequence setting. Then take what you learn to online. After 2 weeks of playing my legit, FIRST Street Fighter Game I’m attempting to learn I went from

No, I’m not great but the improvements are gigantic leaps & bounds. Night & day in contrast.

Lastly, you won’t get any better if all you do is win. When you win, you don’t learn anything. Only by losing do you have something to practice for to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Day 1, I lost the Shoryuken Challenge. A friend beat me by only using SRK’s. Nothing else. Because I was not respecting the range, its ability to be used on wake up, and not crush countering the one’s I blocked. Fundamentally I wasn’t playing Street Fighter.

Don’t worry though, you’ll pull through eventually. We all do.

Training Mode is really helpful, if there’s a move I don’t understand I’ll set the CPU to do that then have at it. A good way to learn how to punish specific moves safely.

I still fall over when people talk about - this or + that, so actually trying different punish attempts this way helps me a lot.

Putting that into practice is another thing though lol

I’ll also say people here and elsewhere I’ve played and asked for pointers have been happy to help. Never hurts to ask.
