Do people have any patience these days? Dude you aren’t going to win in a FG you arent accustomed to in 2 freaking days. Its like picking up a guitar and after your first two days being like “what the hell??? WHY CANT I DO THIS VAN HALEN SOLO?!?!?”.
Practice and patience man. Don’t just go to training mode for combos, learn set ups, spacing, and other shit that is more vital than just combos. Also practice and patience, you aren’t going to win at a frequent rate after TWO DAYS.
good point nissan, like i said, I MAIN Vega , so I know players are capable of winning without doing combos…people nowadays want to rush into things and be all flashy, whats the point if your opponent is more mentally equipped than you and wont let you do the combos…
lol, its a shitty feeling to lose all the time especially when you’re not used to a fighting game. Like sure its somewhat easier to win in Halo or CoD so you don’t lose as much. Coming into a fighting game environment is quite different where as losing is almost necessary to get better.
Its all about that dedication, practice and perseverance
“Like everyone else you want to learn the way to win. But never to accept the way to lose. To accept defeat — to learn to die — is to be liberated from it. Once you accept, you are free to flow and to harmonize. Fluidity is the way to an empty mind. You must free your ambitious mind and learn the art of dying.”
Then Ryu’s quote makes more sense - “the answer lies in the heart of battle”
im coming up to 100 and i have lost all but three. thats right a 98% lose ratio.
i suck, its the first fighting game i have ever really played properly, and have only been at it for a few weeks. but still its disheartening, but i will stick at it. i hope by the 200th game i will be picking up.
(btw its on PC SF4 vanilla, which im hoping is slightly harder because there aren’t many low level players who still play it too offen i imagine.)
AE around the corner though and i feel like i will turn a corner soon.
I think what you’re feeling right now is pretty much how I feel right now. I just went through a 10-loss streak in a row online. I think I’ve won 6 or 7 out of 50. Now while it doesn’t sound so bad, none of them have been convincing in the least. I basically just out-lucked the other guy. It took everything I had to not throw my stick, but I was mad. Real mad. I’m new to the game, basically dabbled a bit in Super before AE came out, and downloaded it when it came out. But I just haven’t taken losing real well, especially when I know where I need to improve. My brain likes to crap out on me halfway through a match, and then I get rolled.
So two questions: 1.) How can I not lose my temper after getting steamrolled? 2.) Is there any good way to get rid of the nerves that come with online play that isn’t just practice more (since it leads to #1)?
Just accept the fact that you lost and in that itself means that you need to work harder. Should take a break after a while though so you can give yourself some relax time. Frustration just leads to poorer execution and mental thinking
not just that either, we are learning a new game, while most people we play online have been playing it for years now. (at least thats the case with me on pc)
as long as i keep reminding myself of this then i stay positive
Just came to say that this advice worked really well for me. I gave Chun Li a try and actually won my first game in the past two weeks. I guess I’m more accustomed to a mid-ranged footsies game than whatever I was doing with Ryu.
i got a better understanding on footsies(and by that i mean barley starting to understand) it also gave me the right mind set to play certain characters through this http://sonichurricane.com/?page_id=1702
Just a tip, I would probaly put down Akuma for the time being, until you become a little more familiar with the game. Akuma’s stun and health is way to low for you to try to learn the game mechanics with him. You’ll be stunned or dead before you even know what happened.
Akuma also requires quite a bit of offensive ability. If you’re defense needs more work, I’d definitely agree with dropping Akuma (that applies to ALL games he’s in)
Dude, 100 games is nothing in the grand scale of what you NEED to put in to get things out of SF. If you want to up your game faster, I advise watching some videos online of solid Akuma players. Check out Lordofultima, he has some very helpful videos on Youtube and quite a few Akuma tutorials.
