Yeah, I was watching the video and it looked like you had EWGF down perfectly (that’s why I got mindfucked when I saw the push back on the one I linked). Very nice use of cr. mk xx EWGF as well.
Hey, dude, Nice DORYA! By the way. The thing with the commentators…they didn’t sound hype. This is just my opinion, but if I saw somebody do the electric consistently like you…I think that I’d be screaming down the mic! But that’s just me.
Thanks!
For the announcers, and not trying to be bias cause they are friends, I think it is hard to commentate on any game that isn’t your favorite (you hate/dislike it). Normally I try to commentate this game to give it some balance but, I was in the finals this time around so yeah that doesn’t work. I will see about getting some more enthusiastic people to commentate (although I don’t think it was THAT bad, just not hype).
Btw, I feel this thread is way underutilized, it seems as if a lot of the players only care about EWGF/Combos that kaz can do versus actual play / strategy vids. Definitely would like to see more vids of people PLAYING games lmao
They hate X Tekken? Damn, that’s disappointing, as they knew their stuff. And it’s not they were bad, this just didn’t seem to care. But you’ve already stated that they don’t like the game, so it all makes sense. If you can, try to find players who like X Tekken, as I’m sure that they’ll sound more enthusiastic.
LOL, we need to get some ranked matches up. I do agree that everybody is obsessing over EWGF, but look at how sexy that move looks!
SWAG:
You used st.HPxx ewgf, cr.MKxx ewgf alot. That only does 308 damage. You want to be looking for 450 plus from your ewgf combos. Get used to whiffing normals and electrics and also using cadc fullscreen to gain meter. Everything builds meter.
also the super combo you were using, cr.HPxx ewgf, cr.HPxx super does 510 damage.
try cr.HPxxewgf, cr.HP(or st.HP)xxewgf, cr.HP super for 591 damage.
Your opponent was using way too many ryu solo combos and missing opportunities for greater damage. for example he used
cr.mp,cr.mp,cr.mk xx mk donkey kick for 231 damage.
He could have used cr.mp,cr.mp,cr.mk manual launcher (hp and hk) into Kazuya’s best launcher combo for over 420 damage.
This is a combo heavy game, where 2 or 3 combo’s should kill. Every time you hit the opponent with anything you want to be looking for well over 400 damage.
This is precisely what I feel about this game and why I like it so much right now. As the game progresses, hard core players will dominate.
/\ Yeah, looking over the vids, I noticed I missed out on a good amount of damage for some of the openings, even with guile like when he did an upper that whiffed and I punished with cross rush versus going for guiles 6RH combos (which I did know about). I think I was kind of in go with what works over dropping stuff. I definitely hit the training mode today to tight up my stuff and optimize. Appreciate the advice!
Also while on defense, I think I should use more alpha counters in tough spots like getting donkey kicked repeatedly by ryu. Kaz always seems to have the meter for it lol
Just tested the damage from using cr.HP instead of st.MP
s.HP xx EWGF, EWGF, cr.HP xx EWGF, s.HP xx EWGF, EWGFgives 508 damage (meterless, LOL)
s.HP xx EWGF, EWGF, st.MP xx EWGF, s.HP xx EWGF, EWGFgives 487 damage
I’Il need to check the damage difference on his optimized launcher combo
launch xx EWGF, cr.HP EWGF, st.HP xx EWGF, EWGF
I was trying the first combo (without the s. HP) and I would whiff the cr. HP most of the time. Is there a trick for the timing (doing it early/late):
EWGF, EWGF, cr.HP xx EWGF, s.HP xx EWGF, EWGF
Can’t wait for this game to come out on PC so I can test stuff out when I’m not home.
You’ve gotta do it kinda early. It’s a tight link in the middle of an already execution heavy sequence. I’ve been using st.MP but I’ll def put some effort into this. In 2 years time this combo will be common place in every Kazuya match, with rounds lasting 30 seconds or less once people maximize damage from every opportunity. It’s crazy how people are crying over the timer, when they’re doing half the damage they should be because it’s a new game that has been underestimated in both technical difficulty and complexity.
I just hope the game lasts that long :s
It will. Even “bad” games can last with a devoted following. I’m not worried at all.
Working on fitting those two EWGFs back to back right now – don’t know why that, of all things, feels so awkward to me. Can do them solo, in between normals, after a canceled mist step, and even repeated do cr.Fierce xx EWGF, cr.Fierce EWGF but EWGF,EWGF feels stupid for some reason lol.
Oh well, here’s one of those moments where I enjoy being a little bit OCD. I’ll be back in 2-3 hours after I’ve mastered it.
Fuck, I don’t play for 3 days and I can’t EWGF for shit. I hope I’m just tired.
Either way, St. Hp xx EWGF, EWGF cr. HP xx EWGF is not working at all. What gives?
I have times when I can’t seem to EWGF for the life of me as well, haha.
I’ve ironed out that st.Fierce/cr.Forward xx EWGF, st.Fierce xx EWGF, cr.Fierce xx Demon Fist is my stand bnb. Does 446/408 damage. Going to keep working on my other versions, though, just to have more options.
I swear, though, I need to get better at just getting in on people, I have the weirdest time trying to open people up.
Why not finish with EWGF? I prefer to keep my opponents closer after a combo.
I’ll probably share that preference once I get better at actually remembering to cross people up, lol. I like pushing people towards the corner though, and typically Demon Fist after 2 EWGFs puts you awful close.
Probably is better to end with EWGF, though.
Someone tell me how to fight that Ryu bastard and stupid M. Bison.

EDIT:
Well, most of what I’d say is summarized by a concept I know primarily from chess: Never undo a move you just made.
In chess, its generally bad to move a piece twice in a row unless there’s some kind of specific strategy you were exacting (in higher level games, there is never an instance where you can actually do this unless you’re running some hardcore mindgames and they open a door for you).
Basically, though, you’re giving him too much space. You want to take space and hold it, give a little to get them to advance, then advance yourself and in a way that keeps you safe but gains you ground. Basic footsies stuff, you’ve got your space (the space behind you), their space (the space behind them) and the contested space (the space between you), you want to eat up as much of the contested space as possible and goad them into your range. When you walk backwards constantly you’re saying “Here, take my space.”
seems to be working out for you in those matches, but someone who knows how to abuse that gift (which is definitely what it is) is going to make you suffer for it.
I laughed when you went full defensive when Bison popped up because I do that too – I have no idea how to fight that guy, I need to learn to play him so I can see what he’s capable of.
Your most convincing matches are the ones where you show really good initiative and aggression and control your space very well– effectively controlling the entire flow of the match.
The not so solid ones are the ones where you give up too much space.
The second link is a really good example because you give him space he hasn’t earned and you move yourself out of Rising Sun range. You move forward with Mist Step under the first hadoken, then drift backwards, then forward under the second, then backwards, then you jump – which works, but if you hadn’t given him all that extra space you could have hit him with Rising Sun and put yourself on top of him. Don’t give someone more respect than they deserve – a better Ryu would expect you to try and claim his real estate, use hadokens to bait you forward, then try and punish as you enter his range, but this guy was playing sort of badly with regards to his hadoken pokes – no baits, no feints, just throwing them wildly. A guy like that doesn’t respect his own real estate, so you should take it, build a house on it, and bury him in the back yard under the rose garden.
See above.
We should be able to like a post more than once.
Realizing that you shouldn’t hold back all the time is something I’ve been having to work on. 3D fighters you spend most of your non-mobile time blocking, so I have the habit of feeling like i need to be on defense when I’m not moving – in 2D fighters you should only be blocking when there’s an attack coming your way. Avoids proximity stun (blocking because an attack was done close to your range) and allows you to keep your mind on taking action rather than drifting backwards and losing your ground.
