And if so, why?
Sorry if this has been discussed a million times. I’m new.
No, he would still be the best because he has swagger.
Yun would be low-mid I reckon. He’d be lower than Yang, either way.
plain and simple, No
Yun with SA2 might be at least mid tier, definitely above the lower tier characters cuz of his EX’s, speed and super but definitely not higher than at LEAST Ryu or something
At most he’d be like bottom of the high-mid tier, or maybe king of the mid-tiers. He’s still better than all the big characters in my opinion, but he’d definitely get killed by Ken/Akuma/Ryu.
Fuck no. He’d be mid high. If it was nerfed (couldn’t build meter as quickly, more pushback on blocking opponents) he’d still be high, probably right on par with Urien, Makato, and Ken.
This topic made me wonder and actually start a tiny project with Yun. I am FAR (read: FAAAAAR) from the best character analyst, but Yun is fairly interesting without SA3. Hella dive kicks, of course, but he can also take you to the corner in a large number of different ways. With meter to burn (a luxury not granted with SA3), EX Lunge Punch is kinda alright after a blocked 1-2-3, and any combo that leads to an EX shoulder check will carry an opponent damn far away. Now if only I knew whether or not properly spacing lunge punches made them safe(er). Has anyone ever checked this?
he has no condom on with or without SA3
they would have to be RLY properly spaced, like after the lunge punch hits on block, it should hit the edge of the opponents hit box making yun recover right in the opponents face so the timing to punish is strict, ive mainly seen it done with HP lunge but ive personally done it with LP lunge but thats like once in a blue moon
Also another nice lil thing to consider is after Yun’s SA2 you can get a free taunt on Ryu, Ken, Sean, and Chun (if opponent doesnt land in the corner)…you can treat it similar to Ken’s SA3 but on other characters you can do many things like build meter, crossup dive kicks, or MAYBE ambiguous cross ups (need to research this myself) but it all depends on the speed of the opponents wake up
but yea Yun is pretty interesting when he doesnt have SA3 at his disposal, i actually heard that (i believe) Mester used SA2 in casuals (yeaaars ago, before SA3 was the shit) to work on divekick distances, etc
What’s most annoying about Yun is his dive into target combo > GJ. If you try to grab the dive, you get hit, and rapeddddddddddddddddddd. He has so many options after his dive. I’d still think he would be top 8.
Parry forward then grab and that shouldn’t happen, there’s plenty of options to stop his divekicks if its in your face
If he didn’t have Geneijin he’d have another super, which might or might not be good. Of course, that’s the “if department”, so it’s pretty useless for this topic.
One way or another, I think he’d be next to ryu and oro on the match-up chart, Ibuki/Ryu in representation and Akuma/Ryu in the Arcadia one. He’d have 2 good supers to choose from, both with pros and cons and different uses/play-styles. I kind of prefer Youhou since I can easily combo it out of mp -> hp -> b.hp target combo (which I kind of abuse, since it combos off of dive kick and it’s fairly safe. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one person who can consistently parry the last hit to punish me) and then follow it up with mp shoulder and hp rush punch for big damage. But Sourai Rengeki is good to punish whiffed pokes (footsies!) or to punish mid-range fireballs, since it’s better than just parrying it if you have the reflexes (I’ve done it and my reflexes are subpar so it’s not hard). So yeah, I think he’d be a solid mid-high.
Easier said than done.
Yun without SA3 is a low tier version of Yang.
maybe so, but its an option that you have…either that or (depending on the character you are using) you can do other things
EX: Ken- jump forward or back HK
