In all my time trying to drum up 3s interest at Denjin eventually I felt like my influence on peoples interest in the game was mostly inert, but it seems like your efforts are an exception to that! I feel like I should offer suggestions but I think you’re doing much better than I ever did. I think you’re right about Goo and Max. I’ve never watched their videos so I wouldn’t know if peoples complaints about them are valid, but its all about that initial spark that gets someone new thinking “This SF3 game looks pretty fuckin cool.”
I try to avoid putting other games down, but I think for players who want to really experience what made SF a classic, SF3 was the swan song of classic, arcade Street Fighter. I think that appeal is what has given this game such longevity and gives me hope for its future. Pray to the 3s gods and you’ll be rewarded.
any suggestions would be appreciated! I’ve been inspired by listening to the 3s Junkies podcast, and stories about Japan. it sounds like the Japanese 3s community continues to thrive because people are dedicated and constantly running events, streaming, anything they can do. I don’t know about streaming but it seems like it would be worthwhile to run a weekly tournament and record/upload it. it’s cool to see yourself on Youtube, and maybe you watch back six months and can say “man I’ve really improved since then.”
I’ve been paying attention to the ST Revival thing too. when I see what they are doing and what 3s in Japan is doing, I think it’s definitely possible to revitalize and build a solid scene of people if you are willing to put in the effort.
I made this point in the GD lounge like 5 lounge threads ago but the one scene I keep thinking about when trying to encapsulate all of what the wire was trying to convey is this one,
Season 2 is regarded as the weakest one but it really drove home more of what The Wire was all about than any other of the seasons. Lt. Daniels had so much good shit ready to be flipped. A smuggling operation, a prostitution ring, closer than anyone else in the Homicide Unit to clear 15 Jane Does(fucking unheard of ever). Daniels could’ve found documents locating the spear of fucking destiny but because none of it worked for Valchek’s endgame of shitting on Frank Sobotka, because the right person wasn’t satisfied, none of it fucking mattered. Commissioner Burrell didn’t even care that Daniel’s unit was about to boost the Police Departments Win:Loss ratio by like 30%, he even shot a “I fucking told you so” look at Valchek. He knew Daniels wasn’t going to get him what he wanted but because Valchek wanted Daniels on it he gave him it just to say he did him a favor. It never mattered what Daniels was doing, as long as Valchek felt like he got what he wanted. But since that did not happen all the heads except Rawls(because 15 jane does off his back would have been awesome for him) were ready to throw Daniels into the fire. Valchek later goes on to get the FBI to do what he wants because at the time the FBI just wants terrorist or Union cases(Valchek decided if he couldn’t shit on Frank alone he’ll just shit on his union hard enough to ruin Frank).
And that’s what I feel like The Wire was trying to say, that real police work is fucking difficult to do in today’s society, but if it doesn’t help the right person then you might as well have been playing with your dick instead because that’s not what matters anymore in today’s police departments in our country and around the world.
doesn’t work that way in my experience. you can run tourneys, try to set up a gathering, etc and if the players aren’t that into 3s the point is moot. usually the players will only touch 3s again for that day, and won’t practice.
it’s like hey, why not try playing just for kicks.
The main reason why 3s is still doing well in Japan is because of players who want to play the game. of course events help promote that, but holding events without players who are interested will do nothing. They go hand in hand. events give player incentive to play though.
yeah I am definitely expecting this as a possible outcome as well. I’ll do as much as I can and try to get people really invested but it’s up to them if they’re really going to get into it. worst case scenario it’ll end back with me and my friend playing together. but no loss there, that’s where we started anyway. and at least I’ll have given an attempt. I don’t like when people say “oh yeah I’d love to play 3s but no one around me plays and online sucks.” maybe there really is no one around them interested in playing but you don’t know for sure until you put out the effort.
