have to agree with almost everything you said, except that i didnt find bison boring in the first game (SF2 / SSF2?)
i have to disagree about crossups, i like it that way, only thing i would recommend is make only some moves crossup air moves (which are designed for that) but keep them that way, that the animation looks like a move that could hit behind (ryus/gouken/kens forward/backwards j. lk).
Damage… meehh… i like the damage caliber of sfxt (the only thing i like about that)
because one super doesnt do ~50% dmg, im kind of sad that, against certain characters, you guess wrong 1-2 times in a nonstop pressure situation and you’re dead. I just feels wrong, you have to guess 50/50 most of the time and the enemy just presses the buttons he learned 6 hours nonstop in training room (just like in tekken 6, you learn one launcher + combo and you dont need more).
So i would like the supers to do less damage, ultras to be removed or replaced… maybe a comeback mechanic like pandora, you fill your ultra meter and can beef up your damage for as long as the ultra last (a little longer than Juris U1 for example). That wouldnt make it braindead.
It looks like a good mashup, but that’s akin to SF Alpha 3 or SSIV, a mix of different characters from previous installments.
I’d prefer a fresh solid roster of 20 than a collection of different characters from previous instalments.
But realistically the roster will definitely have Ryu, Ken, Chun Li and Akuma and Ono has hinted that Abel and Juri will appear in future Street Fighters.
And please, keep the Japanese and American new characters to a minimum - more diversity!
I also feel like one of the few who are ok with the new 3d style. Sure it looks like everyone’s been on the 'roids a bit hard but I really like how it still plays like a solid 2D fighter, but has the flexibility and ‘camera’ of a 3D game.
The Alpha meter system. Multiple supers all ready to go at once, and a variety of properties depending on how much meter you spend, meaning instead of having your two bars where one is basically reserved for a comeback attack, you have to intelligently manage your meter and make decisions about how meter should be used, aggressively or defensively. EX moves would cost half a bar. Just no custom combos, please.
Four words brother: Special-cancellable Low Short. This gave Charlie better combo potential than any Street Fighter version of Guile*. All you would need to do is give him less overall damage-per-hit, and then choosing Charlie or Guile would simply make it a matter of what style you wanted to play.
“But Charlie is dead!”
A) All three of Guile’s cutscenes in Arcade mode hint that Charlie may not be dead.
B) Making him not dead would be a simple matter of saying he went underground in Shadaloo or some shit like that.
C) Or you could put in Shadow Charlie.
D) Game storytelling is something I seriously care about, and I can’t stand it when other people don’t, but this is a 2D tournament fighter, we do not give a shit.
Seriously, I’ve even seen Dieminion do shit like: C.LP x2, C.LK, S.LK. And the worst part is, there’s not much better you can do. Dieminion’s rushdown Guile is still completely awesome to watch, but seeing the combos we have to resort to is depressing.
if they added parries there should be a parry meter or some kind of limit to parrying ability, so that its a mix between the sf2 style and sf3 style
Absolutely, under no circumstance add air parry or air block, in addition, make anti airs very strong
no ultras or comeback mechanics of any kind
faster
tighter input
instead of having an ultra or comeback mechanic, a player should be able to choose a defensive super, that does something defensive like getting the opponent away from them or something. It should be based on successful blocking/teching
I do like the Alpha meter, you get to chose what kind of super you want to throw - changing the meta-game up as you build more meter, really neat stuff. Don’t bring back V-ism, it’s neat but man is it not very exciting when you’ve seen the 50th V-ism combo.
Character Select, Three different Meters to select from (Alpha series, 3rd Strike, SF4), Three different Super Arts to select from or…
CvS2 as a $60 standalone disc game with netplay… $60 you might be asking, it’s to ensure the game doesn’t end up like 3SOE.
Why does everyone want all these characters back? I enjoy seeing Fei Long and Fuerte in SF4 too, but they do not need to be in every game! Make at LEAST half the roster new and bring back Ryu, Ken, Zangief, the staples that are the building block characters. And make the new characters interesting and varied. Then BOOM, my SF5
