I'd Like to see a Samurai Showdown HD version

Last Blade 2 kicks my fucking ass. I’d buy it in a second if it came out on XBL with decent netcode. Everyone go play Last Blade 2 on GGPO, there’s like 3 people in the GGPO room at a time, we need more.

I tried to like LB2, but it fucking bored me to tears when I played it. SS > LB.

That said, I’m looking forward to SS vs. LB (???)

Bushido Blade HD that would be cool

The latest SS (Sen/EoD) sucks not because its 3D, but because SS gameplay (and mostly storyline) are missing in it. What previous 3D SS games tried to do is to make a game with 2D gameplay and some use of 3D space (well imagine MK4 which still played as a 2D fighter while having 3D sidesteps), but previous 3D SS releases are 10 or more years old so of course their graphics isnt superb by nowadays terms.
Overall, in SS games, single strong hits are vital, dashing, jumping and fast movement are all vital, and combos arent vital, so you can do without them. In Sen/EoD, strong hits are barely used, jumping, dashing are barely used, and juggle combos are the very base of its gameplay, so…
SS can be 3D (i.e. use 3D models) in around same fashion how SF4 is 3D because it uses 3D models and 3D camera angles for Ultras
As for Last Blade, it doesnt even treats weapon as independent object, not to mention its gameplay and pacing of hits are reminiscent of normal hand-to-hand fighting game, with hits being mostly light, fast and comboable, whereas in SS the strong attack leaves you with huge recoil because of weapon’s weight

HD SS? Why?

If anything, we need to focus on getting SNK to port the 2 Hyper Neo Geo 64 SS titles so people can experience those.

Fix’d.

The games may play solidly, but there’s NO WAY that any body but the most devout of SNK fans are going to buy a 3D SNK game that definitely shows its age graphically. Not even for distribution over PSN/LA.

But hey, remaking Asura Zanmaden with better graphics and leaving everything else alone would be what I think could be a good thing. Such a thing would definitely be more welcome than SEN/Edge of Destiny likely ever will be.

I honestly hope that this is what end up happening.

SNK management is garbage,so the sooner these clowns are out of there the better.

Capcom buying SNK would also mean that they have specialists in the FG genre who can focus solely on that.

I bought the SS anthology on PS2 and its great accept for the bad engrish translations but other then that the only thing it’s missing is the online. I wish they made it for 360 and PS3 and made it online instead of that bad PSP version.

100% agree.

SS>>>>>>>Last Blade

Last Blade was all overly dramatic and shit, the characters were cool tho’…

I had so many fun nights playing Last Blade 2 with my friends, the story was bit dramatic but who cares!

Game play was awesome the characters are awesome :P.

I want a SS with high tech, super duper high quality 2D graphics, too. Beautiful shading. Smooth animation. Light effects. Huge sprites. Yeah…

However, since the intense, detailed sprite creation process will be expensive and time consuming, they’ll have to cut back on extras during the first release. Then, after it takes many years and lots of money/resources to make, the first bare bones version will have to be released early (because this game is costing an arm and a leg to make and they need to start getting some money back) and NO ONE WILL SUPPORT IT.

And even though 99% of the SS games that we’ve purchase over the years have zero online capabilities whatsoever, people will still cite crappy online as the reason why they refuse to buy this game.

What’s the use? If they do make a new 2D SS with shiny graphics, we all know how the story will end…

Lone Dragon:

How about if either they a) don’t use such a time consuming process to make new sprites (how long did BB’s sprites take to make? Not as long as KoFXII’s I’ll bet!), or b) go the high-end cel-shaded look. That way, they won’t have to release a barebones game. They might even gasp have a boss!

They would definitely have to get online working properly though. I have a wife and child, I don’t have time to play in the arcades (we still have those at least!) and I can’t have friends in my house playing games till 4:00 AM like I used to when I was in college. After playing people online in SFIV and HDR (and soon BB and MvC2, I hope), I can’t go back to playing single player ad infinitum. I’m a huge SS fagmortimer and I’d probably still buy a decent new SS (i.e. not Sen) with poor online, but I’d probably only play it for a month and that’s it.

Regardless of all this, though, they would need to get their hype machine in order if they wanted any more than a handful of people to buy it. SS does have more presence in the west than KoF, so it has that going for it, but they would still need to hype it sufficiently.

BTW, nobody purchased SS games before. People either played SS in the arcades or (more likely) via emulation. People might have wanted to purchase them in the past, but SNk was really anal about porting them to systems that people actually owned. And the ports ranged from mediocre (Saturn SS4) to garbage (PSX SS3). SS Anthology is the first non-shit console ports of the SS games to a system that people own… shit, ever. It’s too bad they didn’t make them for PSN/Live, though, cause I’d kill to play these online (then again, given SNK’s track record with netcode). At the very least, I’d like to be able to play them using my TE stick, since my old PS2 stick is falling apart. :frowning:

All who miss online play for SS Anthology are already playing those games online on 2DF FreePlay (has SS1/2/3/4/5sp) or ArcadeLive (has SS2/4) or even GGPO (has SS2); and then there was kaillera even before those services

We’ve been over this before. PLaying a dedicated online-caable game on my 42" HD TV > playing on a do-it-yourself setup on my 17" LCD. Also, SNK stands to make money by releasing proper online-ready versions of their games, which means gasp we may see more SS games in the future. Emulation, obviously, does nothing for their bottom line. This is not an argument you can win.

That said, I may have to seriously explore those options, because at least on PC, I get to use my TE stick, and more and more that’s becoming a deal breaker. I’ve played my SSA maybe 3 times total since I got it in February, not just because I have no one to play with, but because after using my TE stick, my old PS2 stick feels really stiff and clunky and imprecise and it’s affecting my enjoyment of the games. I don’t know what I’m going to do if I have to play Guilty Gear AC again. :expressionless:

Well, both a and b would have violated the entire purpose of the game…the supposed “ultimate 2D visual experience”.

BB’s sprites probably didn’t take nearly as long to make…but, then again I don’t think Arksys’ intention was to push 2D to the limit. BB’s graphics are great, but the shading, lighting, fluidity of KOF’s sprites are amazing.

Yes, in hindsight, it probably would have been better for SNK to try an easier, faster process…but, I can’t hate on them too much for having an ambitious artistic vision.

Perfection takes time (and money). The question is, are people willing to wait for it and support it? KOFXII says…not really.

I don’t know, SS really got around…quietly. It’s amazing how many systems it’s been on. Almost every major system of the past 15 years has seen a version of it. And, Genesis version, while obviously lacking in many regards, was pretty dang respectable in terms of timing and hit detection. I was surprised when I played SS1 on Anthology recently…I guess my young mind used to look at the arcade version as perfection and my lowly Genesis cartridge as unworthy. But, 15 years later, I acknowledge that it wasn’t too shabby for a 16-bit port. (All the awkward hit detection…that wasn’t just on the Genesis, it was in the arcade, too. I’m sorry for every doubting you, Genny.)

SamSho on Genesis was my first fighter, and one of the few that was ported to both systems that had a superior version over the Snes one. Also they got SamSho II for Live, don’t know if it has a good online but it’s there if you want it.

Might pick this up at a later date, had an emergency that took all my hard earned cash recently, so buying a new FG to get serious on is out of the question. I see they brought Gen-An back in VI, how does he hold up in that game? I played him when I was younger in the first SamSho, as I liked his style and the claw reminded me of Freddy.

I don’t think it would work. AFAIK there hasn’t been a good HD fighting game yet, and Samurai Shodown has been crap since IV. I mean, it could happen, but it’d take a miracle and that’s not what playmore is known for. Best bet is to pick up a Samurai Shodown II cart for $10 and play it til the end of time.

A HD SS would be nice tho’, but I always wanted a HD Metal Slug or a HD Kizuna Encounter
