Ibuki Q&A Thread: Ask simple questions here!

Is there any way to tell which way the training dummy is blocking? I can get air kunai to ground combo just fine, but I really have no idea if I’m landing the kunai cross-up or not. I’d rather not have to constantly record -> playback -> record -> playback.

Make Ibuki the dummy, record setup, then try and block it, reversal out of it, w/e. You only have to record it once and keep playing it back. You can even go back to character select and the same setup will be recorded.

If its someone Ive never played I usually keep the pace of the match slow til I see what they do. Play footsies til I get a knockdown then go to town on em

Did you even look on the front page? here

In short, the Vortex is the ridiculous amount of options Ibuki has on their opponents wake up. The key is to get an untechable knockdown, and then mix it up. Its on them to guess what you are doing and how to block. Its like the Shells game (a bunch of cups, only one marble under one, you mix the cups up) You know where the marble is (ie: attacking) and they have to guess the cup (ie: block correctly)

The Vortex started with Akuma, here is an in-depth look

After the knockdown on any character with Ibuki is it high priority to go into the Kunai Vortex Mixup? Because with some characters I fight I have trouble with i.e dictator/bison

-_-; That’s exactly what I didn’t want to be doing. It’s annoying and longwinded to record my attempt, go into start menu, select playback, wait for my dummy to do his thing and then find out which way I’m blocking.

I suppose I can rubberband a joystick down back to show me.

Usually. But Kunais aren’t your only option. You can do a regular crossup altogether (not to mention this is highly recommended versus some ultras or ex moves). Or you can command dash raida (which I use a maximum of once per game).

Sorry if mentioned before, but this is also important when you’re doing LP MP HP with Ibuki. If you press the HP early you’ll miss the 2nd hit of the MP in the TC, this reduces damage and stun unnecessarily. I didn’t really notice this until yesterday because I was so used to the timing for the TC from SF3:3S.

So just take a slight pause between the MP and HP whenever you use the LP MP HP TC.

so instead of testing something you are just going to keep repeating it and asking people until someone does it for you? seriously? its not that hard to test it. Thats how i learned her vortex, and how I am learning different ways to set it up from knockdowns

Yeah the best way to learn anything is to set it up for yourself in training mode. If you don’t like putting in that kinda effort than Ryu Ultra 1 is knocking at the door.

Alright, once you get in what do you guys usually do, sometimes I jump back for safety and begin the kunai buildup then try to get in again and sometimes I stay near the opponent after say, a knockdown. However for me I have trouble in finding what to do when you score a knockdown but miss the oppurtunity for the Kunai Vortex mixup. Is it recommended to stay close and play footsies/try to get in a few BnB target combos? Any options people?

Alrighty I have a couple questions

Raida: I believe this is supposed to have throw invulnerability but I swear 90% of the time I use it I get thrown. I know when my opponents will try to throw but they always seem to win. Am I just doing it to slow?

What is the best way out of a Ken (or anyone) who is crossing you up like crazy and spamming lp? Sometimes I try ex kasumi which usually misses. I’m thinking I should try dashing. On another note, has anyone else noticed Ken’s jumping RH has paramount priority?

On the upside I landed my 1st tc#4 sjc into Ultra 2 (in a match) today!! :woot: Yeah baby!!

I never wanted anyone to test it for me. Please read what I’m posting. I was asking for a more efficient training method. Record/Playback has huge drawbacks aside from the inefficiency of it. You get removed from what you just did, so it’s harder for yourself to know the exact timing and compare it to previous attempts. I was asking if there was a better method that didn’t force you to go through a stupid process.

Whatever. A rubber band did the trick.

Don’t forget you still have a regular cross-up.

DJ, why isn’t this thread stickied? The OP is amazing and definitely warrants a sticky.

Im trying to get the SJC command dash down from Ibuki’s launcher but I’m having alot of trouble with it. Can somebody describe their method of doing this reliably

I made a thread called: SJC. There you should find all the information you need.

Does anyone use cr.lk at all when pressuring up close? It’s about the only low hit I can think of that can link to cr.jab and st.mk.

I usually prefer Cr.LP over Cr. Lk when I play those pressure games

I do too normally, but it can all be blocked high. And if you want to throw in an overhead it doesn’t work.

I’d rather stick to cr.lk myself, I feel safer using it.

Does anyone know the max frame advantage from a df+mk?

Not sure if this is true. If it is it flies in the face of everything else in the street fighter 4 combo scalling engine.

This is because although the medium punch lands twice, you only need to INPUT a button once for this to happen. Hence the scaling only drops once, regardless of whether or not the second strike hits.
