Ibuki Q&A Thread: Ask simple questions here!

hey guys, i know this is gonna hurt but i figured i might as well.

i uploaded a couple matches from last night where I got bodied by some pretty good local players.
If i could get some feedback besides the obvious mistakes (dropped combo, missed punish etc. stuff i already know) i would appreciate it.

mingo u are probably gonna rip me a new one in these critiques but oh well thats ok.

i analyzed this match already and wrote a list in the description of shit i fucked up on, if anyone disagrees or has anything to add let me know.

this one i got bodied by a viper player, i havent look it over yet but i definitely know next to nothing about this matchup.

Skimmed through the Blanka match. It seems like you already know what you did wrong. All I can say is you need to play wayyy more patient. Kudos to you for hitting him with every single EX kazegiri. Also at the end of round 1 that kunai vortex was way too obvious. Blanka’s U2 beats kunai vortex, but loses badly to any sort of non-kunai vortex, like ambiguous jumpin (doesn’t even have to be safe jump timed; Blanka’s antiair ultra is slow). A few dropped combos were unfortunate. I saw a couple autopilot FA for no apparent reason, like FA dash which somehow punishes horizontal ball? And FA on his wakeup lol when you have like no health left.

CViper match:
Round 1:
0:40 and onward: everytime you see BK you should cr.MK that shit. Worst case scenario is you get an autocorrect slide, but generally this isn’t punishable, since it should be somewhat meaty. I could be wrong though.

0:54: why did you push a button? You block a cr.MP or cr.HP into EX seismo. Even seeing a seismo feint he probably wouldn’t have had time to walk up and throw you without being obvious about it.

1:00: always SJC TC10 into something, on block or hit. You never want to have to deal with that crap recovery.

1:04: I would have gone for EX neckbreaker and/or unblockable here, but that’s okay.

1:05: bad time to be dropping combos.

1:10: you knew CViper was going to mash dp. He had two bars, there was little reason not to. You should have recognized this and baited it with a backdash, then punish for the win.

Round 2:
1:40: bad spacing to bait a dp. If you’re going to do that, might as well backdash. If he did wake up stand tech you would have gotten thrown.

Not 100% sure on this, but I think if you were trying to bait a dp, you could have done meaty cr.MK instead. Due to the low hitbox, it’ll make her dp (HP TKnuckle) whiff, and if she didn’t dp, well then you can continue pressure and/or option select something.

1:48: fail punish.

2:00: unfortunate. I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean to do full screen EX tknuckle lol.

So, throughout this game I see you doing a crapload of FA dash spam to move around. Typically I would call this autopilot (and it probably is) but actually FA into dash is a decent way of protecting yourself from Seismos as you dash around. For us mortals without Hitboxes (stickless stick), inputting a dash takes time, and doing the FA beforehand seems like an okay idea to absorb the seismo, build some ultra, and move around slightly safer. The problem is that you weren’t really paying attention to Viper’s feints when you were doing them. This is just my random theoryfighter. FA dash might not actually be a good idea at all, idk.

Sorry if I can’t help you much; I guess I don’t play enough CVipers or she doesn’t really let you play a standard game of Street Fighter.

All I can say is you dropped crucial combos, misread his backdash a couple times, got pushed around with random BK’s, and got Seismo zoned.

Again, kudos to hitting your opponent everytime with EX dp. Dat Umekazegiri.

DAMN KARL! I didn’t want to watch the Blanka match 'cause it’s LapChi, but you did really well. I’m glad that I’ve helped you out now.

Haha I said the same thing when I played him. We should borrow this thread for helping him out, rising star imo. I’ll upload my matches with him in a bit then.

funny u mention that, izuna also said i have good umegiri lol (i think its cuz i used to play ryu).

he also said that i do too much FA dash. so did that viper player when i talked to him.

in this case i was doing it because i wanted to absorb the seismos like u said, but now that i have that in mind ive been making a conscious effort not to do it so much cuz ur right, its an autopilot thing. i dont even know i do it, i just do it when i dont know what else to do, which is really scrubby. i noticed i backdash too much, when im not at frame disadvantage or anything, and i need to own that space instead of backing off all the time.

i havent gone back to check all the times to see what ur talking about specifically, but i will. thx for the info, like i said i dunno shit about this matchup. definitely dropped too much shit in both these matches, thats just an execution thing, gotta hit training mode and practice as well not panic and try to mash out combos during matches lol.

Definitely wrong. Didn’t even watch the video, but slide can be punished.

Simple question:

  • who else hates st.LK being 4-frame in AE?

EDIT:

  • why do I plink HP as the Neckbreaker hits?

I have a question, well, a request for Xbox Live players out there. Since I don’t have anything to upload my online matches on youtube, I was wondering if one of you guys could check the replay channel and find me ( Damascus06 on XBL) and watch some of my matches (why not, sign up to my replays if you’re feeling like you are a nice guy \o/ ).

I think it would be extremely profitable for me to have a detailed critic about my gaming style. Today, my execution is very good, I spent hours training for consistently land Tsumuji loops or SJCs, I still spend many time on that, but my biggest weakness is my decision taking process. I feel like I really often choose the wrong decision, so being corrected by one of SRK’s ass-kickers would be nice. As I read Mingo’s critic right here, I feel like I would learn a lot to have the same thing for one of my matches.

If anybody can do that, thanks a lot

^ - Have I played you yet?

If you jump on Xbox LIVE within the next hour I can play you and give you a few tips =)

I’m currently at work (casual friday, so SRK time :stuck_out_tongue: ), but we’ll try to do that this week-end for sure if you’re available, thanks

Sorry for the late reply.

Ah, looks like you got some hands on against these guys that I usually had trouble with offline.

Killey was one of the best C.Vipers I’ve fought in our area for casuals, and he does play fairly solid. Just be careful when you’re using focus attacks too often, or FA back-dashing. He can follow up attacks if he sees you do it, it leads you to suicide. Play better footsies with him, and avoid jumping too often. I see that quite a bit in your match against Lapchi. Except, you did way better then I did against Lapchi since I didn’t have much blanka experience (no fairly good blanka players in our area -.-). I wish I could join Canada cup to practice against them, but I can’t this year. If you are competing, I wish you luck.

thx for the advice and the good luck wishes!! yeah we have two very good blanka players here, so its an important match up for me to learn. that was prob one of the first time ive ever even played against viper with ibuki tho. wish u could come down too, but no worries.

i def got a lot to work on still. my footsies with her is poo, and i dash around and jump too much. makes me feel like a scrub when i think about it lol. hopefully im not as bad as i think i am sometimes haha.

It’s okay RedCaliburn, you can play my Blanka again.

P.S. aw man, there’s only one of the matches online.

woww so solid. u really kept him out, he couldnt do shit. 1st and 3rd round i dont think he got even one knockdown. i like that hitbox safe kunai too (mk tsumuji KD, b.mp whiff, lp kunai). i was also surprised u didnt get hit by that ultra.

in training mode yesterday i was practicing 2 different hit box safe kunai setups vs EX vertical roll:

  1. mk tsumuji kd, f.lk whiff, lp kunai
  2. NB, cr. lp whiff, jump/superjump lp kunai

i found they only worked like 2/3 times, sometimes the EX up ball would still hit. i still dont have a good answer for that move.

i was also practicing punishing blankas ultra 2 ground pound, cuz one time he hopped back fullscreen and did it just to chip me to death.
i dont have a problem punishing it just by jumping over and doing cr.mp->whatever, but my question is what if he does the AA one instead just to fuck with me if he knows im gonna jump it? the startup animation looks the same. if i wait to see if its the ground one before i jump over will it be too late? hope this makes sense.

Hmm, last time I played LapChi he did use U2, so maybe he’s changed his match-up strategy…

I first wanted to know what his wake-up option was, so after a knock-down I just empty jumped into his wake-up. Last time we played he preferred doing the EX Back-step Up-ball (probably 'cause it works better what lag or something). When I say that being the case, I went for the standard meaty Kunai Vortex, and just blocked it to punish. If he likes to EX Vertical Up-ball, go for the Neckbreaker -> Ageman -> sj.LP Kunai safe-jump. Of course if he has no meter, Vortex him normally (I prefer using j.LK), and if he has U2 just go for meaties (EX Up-ball is unsafe on hit on the ground).

What he doesn’t know is that he can react to that with EX Electricity, but don’t tell him haha. I’m like 12% win-rate on Blanka and he’s the only one I can beat. Not saying he’s THAT bad, but it’s easier to know how to fight him 'cause he tried to play with some sort of strategy.

I like how his only anti-air costs meter. After I got hit by the j.HK for some… I don’t know why my inputs stopped working but, I wanted to make sure he didn’t get super.

However once he figures out that Ibuki can’t do anything to a Blanka with meter, or at least shouldn’t, I don’t think I’ll ever beat him. His Okizeme usually consists of cross-up U1, cross-up cr.LK into Electricity/Throw (50/50), and he won’t do it if you block it, but cross-up up Horizontal Ball. Just practice doing those in Training Mode so you can have a go recognising what they look like.

EDIT: If LapChi does that chipping U2 BS, jump forward into Hashinsho if you have it. I don’t think he knows about this yet 'cause last time we played he took the round due the lag-spike making me miss time it. Surprise him. =)

That neckbreaker , b+MP , sj.kunai setup looks like it’s from SSF4. Are you sure you still have frame advantage after that to like, not get thrown or something?

And why do you need to do that anyways? I think it’s fairly easy to time your kunai vortex to make EX up ball whiff anyways.

Ahhh! How do you fight against a really good Seth?

Ibuki vs Seth: first person to get a knockdown wins.

Ibuki vs Seth reloaded: don’t EVER get hit by his dive kicks, you know most Seths go for it and you can punish it wit b.MP, even cl.HK if you’re feeling fancy.

Question for you guys: I was experimenting Ibuki’s unblockable against Ryu today, the ex.neckbreaker - MK cd - ~wait~ - j.MK (because I can’t do the neckbreaker one for now, I don’t get the timing).
Trying to escape it, I found that a simple backdash from Ryu gets him out of the j.MK without getting hit. Does it mean that my timing was bad?
