Ibuki bad match ups?

I still believe people are looking at tiers in terms of overall character strength, and this is wrong.

The tiers are just a list that is built off a matchup chart. And the matchup chart shows what characters have bad/good matchups against the rest of the roster. And there are many, many, many reasons that go into each matchup for why it’s bad or good.

I’ve gone over a few of them already. Ibuki being able to outpoke, consistently anti-air, and hit crouching Alex with all her move so very easily – but not being able to do that against Yang, makes one matchup significantly better/worse than the other. And I’m pretty sure no one would disagree with that.

I really wish people would stop generalizing and just talk about WHY individual matchups are good or bad, which is probably what this thread was supposed to be about in the first place. “You can win anything if you try!”, yeah that really helps analyze the difference between characters and what you should be aware of when going into a match, thanks guys.

Xenozip, I understand what you are saying, but I disagree with how you word it. I think its a given that a character is good or bad in relation to other characters in that game. You can’t measure just a single character without measuring how it compares with the rest of the cast. The tier listing is just a fast generalization of a characters match ups.

You say that a tier listing isn’t how good or bad a character is, but rather how they fair against specific characters. But if a character is often at a disadvantage, then it’s safe to say that the character is “not a powerful characater” overall.

I think that sean, 12, Hugo, and Q have so many bad match ups, its safe to lay a blanket statement and say that they are not powerful characters. Sure they do better with some characters then others, but they still should have an overall score that we can use to generalize their ability.

And to DRC… I understand what you mean, but they can and do win. It’s just not often/common. There are players like Yamazaki, Hayao, YSB, and Kuroda who win with low tiers. But its just harder. Kuroda not only entered large tournaments, but he also won. WITH Q.

Now look what hes doing with top tier characaters. Now that hes using yun, ken, akuma, and dudley hes widely considered the best 3s player in the world. So, you can learn these low tiers and win, but its just often not worth your time and you will get way more wins (if thats what one is all about) using the top.

Personally, I think training with low tier character and then going mid/high is great practice. I played Q for 3 years and did ok. Now that I’m playing Ibuki and Elena I smash fools I couldn’t beat before.

Simply put, low tier is hard mode, and high tier is easy mode. You can beat the game both ways, one just takes more work.
