"I shall grind beneath my heel, all that exists!" Oni Combos Thread

Tested crossup j.mk > c.lk > c.lp > c.hp vs the entire cast. Results…

Works 100% on everyone standing. Works on all crouchers except Elf, Ibuki and Vega.

Also tested c.hp xx lk.slash > FADC > s.lp (I use this “cheat” to link into c.hp easier) and it works on everyone except Makoto.

Last thing I tested was j.hp > s.hp and j.mk > s.hp vs all crouchers. I found that j.hp > s.hp works on everyone except Chun-li, Guy and Rose. J.mk > s.hp only whiffs on Chun-Li.

Thanks for testing this stuff. Try doing the first test again jumping from different distances and I think you’ll find that cr.hp whiffs on a lot of standing characters if your too close before crossing over. In terms of cheating with s.lp on fadc combos I used to do this too but Oni only get a few chances a match if he’s lucky to get the full damage potential out of his meter and I think a good habit would be to start practicing cr.hp xx lk.slash fadc tc2 or fadc cr.mp > tc2. Most of the high level Oni’s are doing that for a very good reason. It’s not that hard to time if you plink the mp (even online) and the scaling from any extra lp(s) really lowers your damage output and doesn’t really add enough extra damage or stun. On the last one I’m curious what the advantage to using st.hp over cr.fp if there is a chance it will whiff.

I’ll give the xup > c.lk > c.lp > c.hp another test. As far as s.hp vs c.hp goes s.hp does 10 more damage. Not sure if it does more stun or not.

I was farting around with this last night and I was wrong. It’s the followup lk.slash (if that’s what you are cancelling into) that whiffs not the cr.hp. So obviously you could always just cancel into hk.tatsu.

Another thing I was farting around with last night was intant air dash xx lk.tatsu off of utk . I found the only method that worked 100% of the time for me on both sides was to do this motion (assuming you end up on the left and opp is on the right)

(back throw, lk / mk demon palm):df::d::db::b::ub::u::uf::f::df: + :lp:

I can’t explain why :d::db::b::ub: + :lp: didn’t work for me consistantly. I tried with different timings and when It came out once I would try and replicate it but it was not happening with this motion.

I’d love it if someone else could take a look at this and see if there is a good reason behind why this is.

try qcb, ub, db+p

i just think they have just added a little limitation to TK air moves

At a distance of about 2.5 big squares, charged hado xx fadc xx hk slash combos. Can this be used for anything? Can we get a true unblockable?

st.jab, st.jab, TC2, LK Tatsu, j.mk (crossup) is beating out alot of reversals for me right now.

how do you get the crossup in time?

Its fast. After you connect the tatsu, just hold up+forward and it should time correctly to cross them up. Keep in mind though that so far I’ve only been using it with success against Shotos/Twins/Fei. It’s not good against some characters.

Crossup EX Slash combos into lk ground pound. Oni’s s.mp combos into hk tatsu very consistently even on crouchers. I’ve been using s.mp buffer hk tatsu as a poke. Also, against standing opponents, buffer b.mp with target combo 2 and hit-confirm into a hk tatsu or ground pound.

You probably should end any combo that you can with a ground pound because of the hard knockdown.

Oni’s damage off a j.mk crossup is sick. j.mk -> cr.mp -> tc2 xx pound/tatsu is around 350 damage.

I can’t see any reason to link into anything besides TC2 or cr.hp. Both are 2 frame links and do good damage. The only problem is that you have to note whether they’re standing or crouching to finish the combo.

I prefer st.mp xx lk slash. I use it as counterhit and poke setup. Easy to hitconfirm, hits crouchers so you can just fadc into a cr.fierce combo to force stand and tatsu to take them to the corner.

But if you do cr.hp xx slash you can FADC into the target combo for much more damage. I do slash fadc cr.mp TC2 xx lk pound/hk tatsu.

If they blocked your first cr.mp or cr.lk xx cr.lp then sure I could see using s.mp to frame trap. But it seems wasteful not to maximize Oni’s brutal damage.

So, I’ve been toying around with Oni lately. I’m liking him a lot more than Yang and am definitely considering switching over. My combo of choice for punishing and standing crossups is usually j.mk, TC2 xx Hard Shoryuken. My question is:

What can I do vs. crouchers as a good, damaging combo? If I try to use the combo above, I CAN cross up but TC2 will whiff and I’ll eat a Shoryuken.

Thanks!

:uf::mk:, :d::lk:, :d::lp:, :d::hp:xx( :lk: slash or :mk: tatsu xx fa2 xx ultra, etc.)

Thank you very much!

I like st.mp hitbox better and its harder to punish on whiff. If you look at his st.mp hitbox he can’t even be touched on his front foot until his knee.

In a local match, I landed a perfect TC2 xx:mk: tatsu xx FA2 xx nothing… because I didn’t have ultra stocked. Doh!

what is the easiest to fadc from to land full animation u2?

see the message above yours! Insert U2 where I had nothing.

Thanks!
