If peeps made shit work for SF4 Vega, you guys can make shit happen with SSF4 Guy.
as far as i know, only HK tornado kick whiffs on standing opponents.
Seriously. I mained Vega in SF4 and you can be damn sure that Guy is 100x better than Vega was, if only just for his EX tornado kick.
Floe makes him look beastly for no reason lol. I haven’t been playing the game alot, but from what I played, he is a solid character with a good pressure game and great punishments. He seems to have trouble with characters with a really good reversal. He can’t be low tier. He is mid-tier at least.
No character in SSF4 can be compared to Dan just on sheer principle.
I’ve never tried picking him up, and to be perfectly honest, I know jackshit about him, but I’ve run across one beastly Guy in particular, and get the impression he can bait and switch like nobody’s business with his erratic rhythm. Guerrilla style tactics, and keeping proper distance seem like the way to go, and unlike other characters who are limited, Guy at least seems to have a lot of options to keep momentum on his side. Just my noob impressions.
why are people making so many guy sucks or guy doesn’t suck threads. There is already one discussing this, we don’t need anymore. Or do some of you just want attention?
Is it me or everything Guy can do, Balrog can do it better ?
That’s sad.
oh oh oh I forgot, Balrog doesn’t have any cross up. shishishishi

In case no one noticed most of the new cast is very underdeveloped with Guy and Mokoto getting it the worst. I don’t think Guy will go above low mid. He definitely has flaws that can’t be fixed unless they re-balance the game. But I’m still going to play him until then. IMO what he needs to be a solid mid.
-
Fix his throw combo glitch
-
Make EX Shoulder completely invincible
-
Improve target combo hitbox, so it doesn’t whiff on crouchers so much.
-
Allow st. Jab and cl. RH to hit crouch.
-
Give him 1000 stun (he’s a rush down character with a bad keep out game, why is his stun so low?)
Well… st LP only used to hit tall characters in Alpha, Sagat it always hit regardless, in certain situations, it could connect against, Birdie, Zangief, and Cody nonetheless, for the rest of the cast it CH some of their crouching moves, However Cl Roundhouse NEVER hit a croucher. Should LP should hit tall characters for sure and should at least be able to hit in certain situations.
I agree on Stun, Ex Hozanto, Throw Glitch, and Target Combo.
But you left out his Jump, it should be less floaty, if they fix his Jump, they should seriously fix the speed and IMO bring back the arcs of his Alpha Bushin flips. And they should allow his normal hozanto to be faster in speed and safer on block (Thawks SPD) Push back farther or faster recovery. I also think Guy should be able to do cl lk FF chain as he could in alpha 3.
If they did that Guy would be
i don’t think he’s bad. but i also don’t think he’s great. i agree with e1j1. guy should be a SOLID mid tier. but then again. i don’t think the people coming up with the tier lists have seen what guy can really do yet. that’s not me just being ignorant or optimistic or something. it’s just WAY too early for tier lists to be forming based on what? out of all the new characters i think guy’s been figured out the least. i’m still surprised i haven’t seen more japanese players pick him up and figure something out with him. the only japanese guy i can recall so far is tsukimiya.
also i think him being mid tier is good. mid tier’s are always player dependent on how beasty they can be. the top tiers will always be good… so will the high mid tiers. but there’s less room for creativity with them. rufus is always gonna dive kick… sagat is always gonna throw fireballs. bison’s always gonna scissor pressure you and throw out st. rh. but mid tiers, mid tiers are based ENTIRELY on what the player comes up with. meaning every single person that plays a mid tier is gonna play him differently.
i also believe his ex shoulder should have some type of invincibility. at startup at least like bison’s ex scissor. give him a more reliable way to fight fireball characters. yes regular shoulder can go under fireballs but unless you do it preemptively… it’s too slow to punish. it’ll either get blocked or if the opponent’s reaction time is fast enough… you could get punished for going under the fireball.
all in all i just think it’s not so much that the developers didn’t take enough time on him. it could just be that he doesn’t fit well into the sf4 engine. yes he is rushed… i completely believe he was rushed, but because of how the sf4 engine is…huge reversal windows… not enough blockstun. it could well be that his style of play doesn’t fit the engine. he might not translate so well outside of the alphas.
just my two cents.

His normals hitting crouch in this game would be a decent buff IMO. Look at Abel’s cl.RH it hits as an overhead and is one way to stop people from turtling. Guy doesn’t really have a fast pressure move like that. I want opponents to have to constantly think about what I’m going to do next and right now Guy isn’t that scary. What’s stopping people from turtling once I get an offense going? Bushin flip elbow isn’t good enough. It really should be better than it is, or at least work as an overhead.
The thing about Guy right now is, he still loses even when people don’t know what to do against him. At least Claw players could sort of get away with that.
Is it me, or does his HP Bushin Flip seem VERY inconsistent? I can hit the grab with the LP version all the time, but the HP version just seems like a huge gamble.
You need to use it at the right time, hp for when they are in the air.
I like the balance changes you guys are suggesting. He wouldn’t be top tier if that all happened but he would definitely be more solid and more tournament viable. I hope japanese players voice their opinion on this as well cause I’d bet Capcom japan cares more about what they think.
I think we have two chances to get a balance patch for the game. One is when the arcade version is released, and if that doesn’t happen then if we get another title update via dlc in 2011 like Ono mentioned.

Well they’re going to have to patch Fei’s infinite on Juri. And hopefully all of Guy’s glitches (which will hopefully fix more of his issues relating to hitboxes) but I don’t see any balance changes until next year. And trust me…there will be another SFIV game before SF5 comes out. The series is just too popular right now.
Honestly dude, just make ex shoulder go through fireballs and fix his U2. There’s no reason why U2 should be this bad, people can just back dash out, jump, and super/ultra out of it pretty easily. Also if other characters can have all day to combo into their ultras after the set-up, so should guy. the timing for the U1 set-ups in the corner should be a little less strict, not braindead, but it shouldn’t randomly whiff either.
I hate when that happens especially online and I lose the ultra due to a bad connection, but when Guy had that Ultra in Alpha 2 gold and A3 he was able to be thrown out of it, hit out of it, and people could jump on reaction, however its best to be used in punishes, EX run xx U2, or in constant pressure you use that as a mix up utility.

Honestly, the the only things I would change about SSFIV Guy are the speeds for HP and MP Houzanto, his far mk’s reach and how floaty fp bushin izuna drop is. My overall gripe withhim in this is really that he can’t seem to move forward AND punish projectiles in this one. He can get by them, but by the time he actually gets there, they can block. Also he definetely needs his old reach in mk back too and make bushin flip elbow non-crouch blockable. Anything else for me) is extra. I’m not sure how I feel about the tier list because (historically) Guy’s never been great against charge characters. So it being 4-6 isn’t anything new. I think that Guy’s mid-tier though. I mean a lot of his stuff comes from playing smarter then your opponent, that’s always been what makes Guy fun…

If DeeJay can slide under Sonic Booms why can’t Guy?
Don’t over complain. Guy can jump d.mp on fireball, hozanto, mk tatsu, or ex through it… That’s far enough against fireball.
Just speed up Hozanto so we don’t have to predict a fireball to punish fireball happy.

I think Guy isn’t that bad - he can definitely lay down the smackdown, but some of the fixes some of you suggested would be spot on (less floaty lp flip, glitches, u2…).
Guy is a rushdown char, but as he is, i find it better to play safe and just hit and run, punish, and throw in the occasional rushdown in the corner. Could be because I suck, but some of the tricks suggested here and seen on high tier replays dont work very often in online play. Like target xx run/stop - best case scenario, I get a throw. Worst case, I get an Ultra. Usual case, I get the insert punishment move in the face.
Despite his weaknesses I think Guy is a char worth sticking to. He depends a lot on how you play him, and if played right he can easily be a beast.
