I Got Next | A Documentary on the Fighting Game Scene

All of that footage wasn’t from FR12 sir. I’m sure when he get’s to goto other tournaments that he will add more of the other tournaments to his trailer. It’s the beginning of the major tournament scene this year There’s only been 2 big tournaments this year on the EC that I known he has been too and that’s Sinstation and FR12. I Think he started at NEC last year, but i’m not sure. SinStation and FR12 was at the start of the bracket and i’m guessing that the end of the bracket will be evo2k9 in vegas. I’m wondering how many Major tournaments will he beable to attend since he is doing all of this on his own dime. I wish him nothing but the best.

I personally don’t mind if it’s all top players…If you’re going for a narrative, then that makes sense to focus on them.

trailer looks great. looking forward to seeing the finished product!

Sick!!! Can’t wait!

You still go to SUNY Purchase Zethzen? I’m currently a student there. If so, we should definitely talk fighting games sometime. PM me or something.
And the documentary looks great. Joe is a cool guy, I see him every time I go to CTF and briefly spoke to him a few times. Good all around player.

Dam that looks good, im looking forward to it.

I should be in this video though ! Repping London UK !

I was Street Fighter champion back in 92/93 winning the London Trocadero tournament hahaha.

Thats old school ! Street Fighter was a big part of the street culture back then, people would respect you if you we’re good and fights were always breaking out in the arcades lol.

I learnt my trade from the Triads who use to hang out at the Trocadero, which was my first experience of Asian players and they were god like ! It was quite intense because these were gang members who use to carry satchels with all kinds of machetes and blades inside. You really didn’t want to step on the wrong toes !

Those were great days though, you wouldn’t swap them for anything.
So its great to see SF back in the limelight in 2009 after all these years, the legend lives on !

thumbs up man!

Very nice trailer, Got me super pumped for it.

Also, huge props on the Tofu House avatar. That place is too pringles

I’ll definitely be picking one up!

QFT.

The gamer in me wants to hear from everyone, even the casual players.

The film maker in me knows how difficult it is to craft a narrative in a documentary, and sticking with what is most likely going to be the most interesting characters, especially on limited resources, is the best way to go (unless someone else has better ideas).

A good (maybe not good) analogy is LOST. Yeah, there’s tons of other survivors and you may think “Man, I wonder what their story is” but really, if you did hear their story, you probably wouldn’t care / be pretty bored hearing what they have to say. The main characters of LOST (and the top players) are the ones who are experiencing all the action, so you’d want to see it from their perspective.

Pros are better for interviews… they earned their way there… they know the game better… iono about the scrub interview part… i can understand someone with a high level low tier character… but interviewing a scrub… iono man… there’s too many out there… (including me) there’s not much to talk about strategically… just like any sports… do you really want to hear from bench players? lol i didnt think so

better yet… interview those who organizes large events

Looks awesome, good luck to you.

I did a couple this past Final Round. I’m sure i’ll be in there somewhere hopefully…:xeye: The organizers should have a voice in this docu also.:china:

Umm… looks cool man. Can’t wait to see the full video.

I love this so far!

Are you planning to aim this, for the most part, at people who are already familiar with fighting games? Or are you going to try and draw in a wider audience? I’d like to see a fighting game doc like this that approaches it kinda like King of Kong did. Where they kind of lay out the basics of the gaming scene first for the average schlub then get more involved as it goes… So you could show it to anybody and get them all hyped up about something that they knew almost nothing about beforehand.

I love how the game has matured alot in the latter yrs. Great job man. Cant wait 4 the full boy.

This looks really well made, for one person you’re doing a great job on this. I want to thank you in advance for putting forth your time and money to do this for the community. I can’t wait to see the end product.

The music in the trailer was perfect.

Can I just say that technology is freaking amazing? We can get bad ass footage like this on a consumer HD camcorder. Seriously, indie filmmakers today have way more tools than most professionals did 20 years ago.

I’m proud to be apart of this great fighting game community we have here. Maybe we’ll all get alot more respect from haters after this documentary.
