I Got Next | A Documentary on the Fighting Game Scene

Yes.

Ian is filming Bar Fights 2 really soon (maybe this weekend? Can’t remember when it is happening).

Contributors are still getting updates.

Hey, sorry for the lack of updates, I’ve been prepping for the final shoot. Like Parabellum said, I’m heading off to California tomorrow for Bar Fights 2 and then to Ohio for Seasons Beatings 4, which will wrap principal filming on I Got Next. After that, it’s post production for the coming months.

I’ll keep you guys updated on the happenings of the movie as it progress and what’s going down. If you want the most up to date announcements there is a twitter account for the movie, www.twitter.com/igotnextmovie. Look for a few more announcements on how you guys can get involved in helping out with the film if you’re interested in the next couple of days (non-monetary this time).

Good stuff man. Looking forward to the final cut.

So are you working all this recent footage into the movie or just the extras? Wasn’t the original idea to make Evo the big climax? I don’t know, just seems like Bar Fights 2 and SB4 would be not-so-great finales for the movie compared to Evo.

Also curious as to what you think the final length of the movie will be. Are you trying to force it into an hour and a half?

Nah, both of those events would be great for the conclusion because they tie up loose ends.

Bar Fights II = the big East Coast vs. West Coast showdown that didn’t get to happen at Evo.

Season’s Beatings = America vs. Daigo, for probably the last time before SSF4 drops.

Hell Ian I’ll see you at SB4.

I’ll try to stop by and introduce myself if you don’t look too busy with filming.

:china:

I don’t really care what he ends the movie with, having more tourney/event footage can only be a good thing!

I disagree, since all tourney footage does is alienate those who don’t know about the game in the first place. Sure, you want to get the stories and people at these events, but the actual game matches and stuff are irrelevant.

FUCK YO CARE:arazz:

Monetary donations are still open right?

I thought that it was fairly well established that this doc was mostly intended for fans of street fighter?

If so, then its spot on.

If not, then I guess I agree that at a certain point, match footage is going to lose the interest of the non fighting game fan audience.

the movie is principally about a rivalry…what is so hard to understand there?

There was no match footage in the short version, so it seems to go against reason that the full version will be packed with match videos. It’ll be about the people on the tournaments in that case, not the actual matches.

I never said match footage, I said tourney/event footage which includes much more than that (well, depending on what he films, but in the short cut he showed a lot more than just match footage). The documentary is supposed to be about the competitive fighting game ‘scene’ in general (at least that’s what I thought), so it seems to me that any events where competitive fighting game enthusiasts gather and play or socialize would provide some pretty relevant and interesting footage- regardless of the focus he decides to take in the final cut.

idk I thought Ian said that even though it had that east vs west theme in the short cut that depending what happened over the coming months he was filming that he might change that in the final cut. I was under the impression that the final cut would be a re-editing of all the previous and new footage, not just the short cut with more tacked on, but I could be wrong.

TOFU House, these bitches don’t know about it.

You think they’ll keep the take of my interview where you and D decide to dry hump my legs into submission?

They fuckin’ better.

Yes!
If you’d like to donate I’m still accepting donations via paypal through the donations page on the website.

Fuck yes Tofu House.

Well, I hope with the feature length cut that I’m able to bridge the gap between hardcore players, casual players and even viewers that are not initially interested in Street Fighter. I know that it’s not possible to satisfy everybody fully, but I’m trying my best to make an accessible, yet compelling story about the community for people who are involved deeply with it and people who know very little about it.

So, I mentioned last week that if anyone is interested in helping out the film, there is now a new avenue towards that besides donations.

Licensing music costs a lot of money and unfortunately I don’t have that money since this is very much a community driven and independently financed project. Because this is such a community driven project though, I thought it would be great to collaborate with musicians within the SRK community and in other communities, by asking for music submissions for the feature length cut of the film. If anyone is interested in having their music potentially featured in I Got Next, please check out the guidelines here:

http://www.igotnextmovie.com/music.html

It will definitely help me out a lot, and it will allow independent musicians a chance to have their work featured in the film. If you guys have any questions about this feel free to post them or email me at ian@igotnextmovie.com.

Hey Ian, just wondering, any idea on if you’d be able to come to NCR in Norcal (11/21-22, Sunnyvale, CA) for filming?

Yeah, the final 2 events that everybody wants to see. Like you said, great for a conclusion.

Showed it to my friends, and they loved it. Got 'em inspired to get better at SF. KIU, man!
