Wow real talk. if you agree to something, don’t go back down on it like a little bitch when it’s not going your way. Also stop being so mad and breaking OTHER people’s shit. Noel needs to calm down.
Man when did tournaments turn into pay per view events?
People are there to take everyone else’s money and prove they can do it regardless of who they’re playing against, not put on a show and look pretty for you while doing it.
On top of which there is no standardized manner of tournaments or linking the majors / tournaments together outside of the seeds for Evolution. This works for Evolution, but going into the tournaments that provide points for Evolution, everything should be fucking random. You work for your shit.
I’m fucking disgusted that the word ‘stars’ is even being used at this point.
But what you are saying is that Joe Shmoe is a random average player and ignoring the fact that he made it to top 8. Lets think on that for a sec. How many people would he actually have to beat to get there? In a small tourney fine, but in a larger tourney I am quite sure thats more than 3 people to get to final 8. What you are doing is saying that someone who made it to top 8 is a scrub and not even acknowledging they had the skill to make it there. Shit you might as well call Vangief a scrub…
If these tournaments only paid out for first place then yeah, seeding wouldn’t matter. But the tournaments pay out top 3 (and in some cases more than that) so seeding is very important if you are trying to get a legit top 3 and in this case a top 8 ( because of the EVO points prize )
Was reading this thread and I agree for the most part that its pretty shady stuff, but I have to call this dude out on COMPLETE BULLSHIT
Bro. I’ve been in the smash community almost the past ten years and nothing even close this has EVER happened at a melee tournament. This kind of behavior is practically unheard of. I have helped and oversaw many major tournaments happened within the melee community all over the nation and nothing like this ever happens. Trust me.
At the most on occassion, brackets would be moved around BEFORE the tournament begins after its made to separate people from playing their training buddies on round 1.
So I don’t know where the fuck you have the idea that the smash community is like this, but get that bullshit out of your head. For as long as I’ve been in the melee community, I’ve NEVER seen anything close like this ever occuring.
So stfu and play some more hadoken fighter.
Now, occasionally there will be an unknown like Gamerbee who takes the community by storm, but generally, you want to see the best level of talent in top 8 that you can, and a bunch of no-names aren’t going to provide that.
This is a circular argument. There shouldn’t be seeding because there shouldn’t be seeding. I just explained why players should get preferential treatment.
A bracket that isn’t going to change is great for everyone to see. A draft bracket whose seeding isn’t finalized and is subject to change will only cause confusion, and as it did in this case, it incites people to complain and pick what would be more favorable to them.
Though that hypothetical guy still beat half of the players. If half(or a fourth or an eight or fucking whatever it’s late) of the entrants in the tournament are worse than some below-contempt average player, then what the fuck is going on?
I really don’t agree or disagree, however this seems like a really bad argument. Especially when we presently have an example where top 8 players are picking and choosing who they’d like to play.
Ok, tell me this. How come top players win consistently? How come the other players don’t win as consistently? Obviously the top players try harder, put more time into this, and play a lot more. The amount of effort put in is shown. Especially when newer players step it up and cause upsets.
Please learn to read and also I hope you know what a bracket looks like. In my hypothetical that doesn’t happen because of seeding by skill, you won’t have every good player on one side of the bracket, and every bad/ok player on the other side. If there was no seeding, it would be possible that the best of the “ok” players will make TOP 3 and make money when they are relatively not that good.
