It’s pretty exciting to see someone like Sako playing Evil Ryu. Before all we saw of his Evil Ryu was online Endless matches, now we finally see him bust out ER in a tournament and won mainly using him. It’s too bad he didn’t use him for GF, but I guess Gen does better against Bison than ER does. But he did use him exclusively in the Kumite and did very well in those matches using him.
I’m much more impressed with Sako’s Evil Ryu now then I was before. He played a very basic ER in those online matches, zoning and footsie based. Now he’s doing ER stuff like those corner set ups. I hope he comes to EVO and sticks with ER.
It’s a sane way to study a character, tho. Get a feel for the footsies and other positioning stuff, see what situations you can make and then head to the lab to capitalize. No use in mixups if you can’t land them due to the character feeling foreign.

Honestly nothing special in this vid, just me getting bodied. I was sent to the main stream to play against PR Rog. I was going to lose anyways but I’m not too happy with some of my decision making. Overall I think I played well but I respected him way too much and let him bully me around without the threat of reversal. I think I learned a little bit from this experience and will be better prepared the next time I take on a more well known player.
just watched it, 20ms is enough to make me miss 90% of the links lol… I tought I have missed less during the matchs, I was more worried about hitconfirming online, but the linking is horrible aswell, meh.
Just wondering but why did you keep doing combos like jab, jab, st. jab, st. MP, LK axe kick instead of just jab, jab, cr. MP, LK tatsu, SRK? I’m not even talking about the FADC combos, this seems to be your main punish combo from multiple jabs. Are you just worried that your opponent might be crouching and that you may not be able to react to it so you rather just commit to that combo or something? Just wondering because I have that issue to, I keep committing to the other combo I just mentioned and when they are crouching I’ll spend a bar to do EX tatsu because it’s too late to do anything else if I want more damage.
If I did 2xc.LP and s.LP I missed the timming for a s.MP, did the plink too early and it resulted on a chainned s.LP. Its prolly should have been c.LP, s.MP xx LK AK.
I dont use c.LP into c.mp xx tatsu too often. It have its uses against some chars, but it tends to miss against anothers and I dont know exactly which chars takes it and which ones doesnt. Usually even for hit confirming/frametrapping I dont use it because the opponent will be crouching. Then you shall see me doing c.LP into cl.HP, or c.LP, stand, c.LP - s.MP, or 2xc.LP into s.MP. There are some cases where you hit c.LP against a standing opponent and doesnt have the bars for the combo, I should to use a tatsu if it connects against the other character, but Im not used to it, honestly.
Im really pissed off with this set because I played it a few days ago and after many days in the trainning mode to get my timmings right again Im still missing everything.
Yea…looks like you guys have the same issue with two different solutions. Don’t give up on practicing those hit confirms. I’ve played you before. I know you can learn it. Just have to take the time. If you have spent a lot of time on it, remember practice doesn’t make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. You might need to look at how you’re going about things and try some new stuff. One thing I know is big for me is don’t watch your character or the hit flashes. Your character looks the same whether you hit or not…the flashes are basically the same whether you hit or not. The difference is the other character. If they’re hit, they reel back, but if they block they don’t. That’s what you need to watch for. If the other characters animation change at all other than standing up or crouching, they’re hit. Whether they’re standing or not and their range should be another calculation that’s going on at the same time you’re starting your hit confirm.
Also…I know this is fast, but it does take the standing/crouching confirm out of it. Try c.lk xx. cl.lk xx hit confirm. If it hits cancel to dp or hk tatsu. Either hit on crouchers and doing just 2 lights, you’ll get cl.lk in most of the situations you want to hit confirm. Grind that in training mode on random block until you can get it, and the rest should be cake.
