Well nobody is perfect, too bad there isn’t more footage of Poongko playing Evil Ryu. I’d like to see how well ER rushes down, would be a nice change from Air’s ER since he emphasizes zoning more. Has Poongko given any impressions on Evil Ryu?
Haven’t spoken to him about E.Ryu. Laugh thinks he’s lower middle tier - A weaker Akuma. I tend to agree. I’ve played Poongko’s Evil Ryu a few times and he’s got some massive combos… but the character is so weak health-wise that playing him too offensively is dangerous and spells trouble more often that not. He doesn’t seem to have many mix-ups (in comparison to Akuma/Seth/Viper) and suffers because of it.
Those are my exact sentiments and I haven’t even played the game. Just doing theory fighter in my mind gave me that conclusion. I made a few post earlier complaining about how this character seemed gimped from the beginning. With his set of moves, normals, and so on, having such low health and stun doesn’t seem validated.
Like I’ve said before, I wish we got the boss Evil Ryu with all his abilities, except he has even lower health and stun. Kind of like a throwback to the CVS2 days or the current Phoenix from MVC3 where the character is ridiculously powerful but will die in a couple of combos.
That being said I’ve always been a fan of the character and still really look forward to using him myself.
Aye, thought I dare say a few new tricks will materialize in due course. Looks like he might have more than a few good resets which could give him an edge.
Once he’s out on consoles more people will put hard training time in with him and we may find a whole bunch of new tricks. It’s hard to experiment when your opponent is playing to win, as they inevitably are in the arcade.
I think his playstyle relates more to Ryu’s than Akuma’s, with less health for some better mixup tools (namely his karathrow and the foot thing against crouch tech).
