You can’t do a true safe jump on Ryu BTW. His reversal hits on frame 3.
If you tried he would tag you during land recovery I believe.
But yeah you’re on crack obviously.
Sagat is a beast. You could argue him not being number 1 since Akuma, Seth and Ryu can give him a run for that title, but to say he isn’t one of the best is ludicrous.
So because 20 people use Sagat makes him overpowered? How about looking at the top 20? Only 5 of them. Then there is a huge mix of characters like Ryu, Akuma, Viper, Rufus, Dhalsim, Chun Li, Abel, Zangief, ect. So to me it seems rather balanced at the top. Now if the top 20 was dominated by Sagat then you might have a case.
Besides that is the worst list to use especially since some players are counted more than once. Any point system is flawed because it can be based off of how often you play not how well you play.
However number of players != strength of a character. This is often a fallacy that just because a character is popular doesn’t mean he is so much better than the rest of the cast. Also do keep in mind that the rankings you see there are strictly BP nothing else.
My point with in the top 20 is that it is a smorgasbord of characters. Most fighting games I have played where the #1 is overpowered usually has the Top 20+ spots filled with the #1 and only scarce sightings of other high tier characters.
In this case there are at least 10 different characters in the top 20. Out of the arcade cast which is what 17 characters? That means only 7 characters don’t have a player in the top 20. Guile, Honda, Blanka, Vega, M.Bison, Balrog, and Elf. though if you go down the list you can find a few of those. Out of the top 20 Sagat only makes up 25% of the rankings.
Sagat sure is god tier, but is it the only reason as to why he’s over represented?
Maybe he’s just really popular in Japan right now because of how he play or because of the insane damage and FADC into kick into ultra.
Sagat just isn’t that popular in the US for reasons which I ignore.Justin Wong could beast with him,but he and most top US players don’t seem to enjoy playing as Sagat.I am sure that Balrog is over represented in the US compared to his actual power level.
Ehm, there are 6 sagats in the top 20 and 5 in the “top 8”. Not to mention there are 3 of them in the top 4.
I can agree with you that sf4 is way more balanced than previous games (like 3s) but sagat has to be A LITTLE overpowered. It’s not that only sagat players spend all day in the arcade, when you’re looking at that top 50 you can be sure that anyone of them spends like 5+ hours a day playing. It’s just that mago, ojisan and RF win 95% of the times using sagat
It says he is the best character, but at the same time best doesn’t mean over powered. I wish people would stop throwing that word around. Sagat is nothing compared to other fighting games.
