At the break of dropping my favorite character Hulk, i come 2 the Hulk forums for advice: i know it wasn’t me but hey what if i’m wrong and some hulk player has the exp in the mag match-up that i don’t. So i finally came across a mag that gave me so much trouble i had 2 avoid playing Hulk against Mag /w Sent assist. Here is a link 2 the vid of me playing him during the tournament Justin.tv - FunkyP Streams - Battle & Brew Cinco de Mayo Marvel vs Capcom 3 Monthly (part 2 time 1:46:00)Reggie Rob (me ofc) vs launchpad
What does the hulk forums think, drop my team for high tier or pick a team with hulk in there but anti mag ppl? I think wolverine deals with mag pretty well but i haven’t played wolverine in a month n still did decent with wol . …while i’m waiting for advice i’m learning Mag f’ing neto/ Wesker in-case changing teams is best for me. Btw does anyone think Wesker bests mag or whats the match up?
I’ll say few more things later but what i noticed off the bat:
-Use gamma wave. That is your friend in that matchup. When u see mags flyin around happy and shit from far away in that vid use it. Gamma wave eats up Em disruptor and sent drones. Bait out EM and use wave along with sent assist.
-Also stop Gamma Crushing Shockwave. Waste of meter and he just xfactored and punished hulk everytime. The magneto matchup in which he plays keepaway your best bet is to time gamma wave. It can be challenging because of hulks mobility but u have to make a way or else get beamed and supered to death. I cant really say too much about your hulk cuz he didnt live long enough to really do anything. Play the matchup smarter.
Which set were u watching during or after tournament? Either way i wasn’t gamma crushing his shock wave i was gamma crushing his sent who he tried to protect with his shock wave. I normally can get in on mag with just a few dash cancel jump blocks but the sent assist pushed me 2 far back when blocked so i figured let me take away half of sent’s hp (so he will think twice of calling sent) then try and rush. I do remember thinking i had 2 bars when i had 1 and eat a mag combo maybe once or twice. I tried gamma wave here n there but cuz Launchpad stuffed my start up or while i was in the middle of gamma wave i stopped using it for awhile…maybe cuz he spars with a hulk/mag user all the time; it just didn’t feel like something i should use 2 much but i’ll go into the lab n recreate the situation. As far as living long enuff mag combos hurt…plus he had the dhc glitch which he didn’t abuse.
Okay i watched the vids some more. And still i dont know why u were trying to gamma crush to take out the assist when he xfactored so he could block and punish u everytime. Plus sent was still alive (with a pinch of health). Random gamma charges that got punished if they didn’t hit. Also other than Sent as ur assist ur team is gonna have a hard time gettin in on teams who can use projectiles. I see very little team synergy with the one u got. Whenever u had someone forced to block because of sent drones and a gamma charge u can mix it up a lot more. Do one gamma charge then the drones follow up then try the mixup game while they block. You cr. L into whatever, possible command throw or reg throw, j.S crossup shenanigans, and just explore other options.
Really you just gotta play the team matchup smarter. I could see if the guy had caught u slippin or somethin of that nature but a lot of it was him punishin fuckups and reckless stuff. There’s a way to get around Mag and Wesker shit, its jus a pain in the ass. I deal with that shit all the time and it can be annoying at times with the mixups but u gotta learn how to avoid gettin in and puttin yourself in those situations. Mag can wreck house dmg wise but remember that bastard is a glass cannon. One touch from u and that can be a wrap for him. And in my opinion, x-23 does not help u whatsoever.
K i’ll watch my matches with everything ur saying in mind. As far as x-23 goes i lost all faith in her usefulness and my play after the tournament shows that. In the tournament i was debating with another x-23 player on her usefulness and its pretty much nonexistent cuz she can’t get in on anyone good so i’m dropping her for Wesker.
List of things not 2 do from what ur saying:
1)No Gamma Crushing assist sent (if it doesn’t kill or do it when i have meter 2 dhc ofc safely)
2)Quit the random gamma charges that r out of range( which i’m sure i’m just trying 2 get the super armor timed 2 hit mag)
3)Don’t rush into traps
List of things ur telling me 2 do:
1)Well timed Gamma Waves
2)Explore mix-up options if opp as blocked Gamma Charge n drones r on the way.
3)More team synergy( guess u mean: un-blockable block string setups/drones mix-up/safe dhc’ing)
4)Get in on my terms so its not just me blocking in front of mag
Let me know if i missed something cuz i’m really gonna try and step it up.
Thats good enough right there. It can be frustrating at times gettin in with Hulk but there are ways to make it possible. You just gotta check out your options that your team provides.
Did a lil lab work n read the bible( brady guide); best way 2 deal with the mag /w assist spam is jump back Gamma wave. If timed right u’ll jump as mag starts electromagnetic disruptor n it whiffs but u’ll fall to the ground as the beam fades but still is on the screen which gives hulk more than enuff time 2 get out a H Gamma Wave. Best way 2 practice this is by ofc going 2 training mode and setting player 2 on repeat playback n ofc have player 2 team have mag and sent. There should be a training mode list of things 2 practice against but that would make things 2 easy.Gamma Wave M( 4 frames faster than H) will tag mags foot from full screen while hes spamming. 2 take things to another lvl of i hate projectile wars but i’m KING if u want 2 go there is the fact that hulk can use standing M (super armor kicks in on frame 3) then gamma wave spam n as hulk players we know once hulk gets started on gamma wave spam very lil can out projectile him but don’t get 2 spam retarded u will be punished.
Reggie I watched you in the Loser semifinals against X-23/Sent/Tron. When Tron got hit by Gammatsunami as an assist, the time that it killed X-23, you could’ve Gammawave or Gammatsunami again and again and again until Tron would’ve been dead as well. You got the win but hell the easier the better right. Pretty much any time I connect with Gammawave if there’s an assist that got tagged as well I try to get at least one or two more gammawaves in there especially as most opponents won’t be looking for that and will just be blocking it with their point while the assist eats it.
Oh yea i kinda did forget about the infinite Gamma wave on assist, its just so rare that i get the chance 2 do it must have slipped my mind cuz i was doing that be4 street release of mvc3. Thx 4 the advice keep it coming u guys.
Ok I keep getting killed by Task keep away and its frustrating cause I can’t get near the bastard. Any tips on dealing with Task? His air H beats out my Standing H and Standing M since its a multi-hit unless I’m timing things wrong.
Task is one of Hulk’s really bad matchups. Not only are we zoned by arrows, but we can be kept out by j.H. Once we get in, we can’t just swing carelessly due to normal and super counters.
Your assists should cover your character’s weakness. Use beam assists to get in, then use your other assist once you’re up close. Punish Mighty Swing with air grabs (practice this in training mode) for decent damage. Dodge arrows with jump cancelled dashes, and block when you have to. Gamma Wave may beat horizontal arrows, but I can’t recall at this time.
Overall, it’s just a really rough matchup. It’s not just you.
Fighting against taskmaster is a matter of patience. Tasky’s st. M and j.C messes with Hulk bad. Your best bet is to bait the tasky player into doing other moves besides those two. You can gamma wave the arrows and like asta said make sure your assists have your back. A lot of times people get focused on Hulk so much if there character is a good matchup that they tend to forget about your assist sometimes.
This matchup for Hulk is rough but its not anything that u cant beat.
While I agree that Taskmaster looks like a tough matchup on paper - I feel like the jump cancelled dashes to dodge arrows is more than enough to make this match-up more than do-able. I played Humbag’s Taskmaster in casuals for a few hours a week before Power-Up and I didn’t feel like the matchup was much worse than most characters. I do recommend using s. over s.:h: for your armor attacks since comes out faster and reaches farther than Taskmaster’s sword does. Taskmaster can’t duck it like many characters, so it’s a great help in the matchup.
I’m not saying my Hulk beat his Taskmaster every time or anything like that - just saying I don’t recall ever thinking “Jeez, Taskmaster is a terrible matchup for Hulk” or feeling like he was more difficult than Humbag’s other characters. Maybe he just didn’t know the match-up, but that seems silly b/c every one knows it’s all about avoiding the armor and zoning Hulk out if possible.
Task can zone hulk out and rush down hulk. A Hulk player has to pick his spots wisely with task. Task’s st.M which is hit confirmable as hell into whatever and j.C make the matchup annoying.
There’s a reason Ol’ Tasky is a “Hidden” character. This is one of the toughest 1-on-1 match-ups for the Hulk in this game, but it comes down to two aspects. If Taskmaster stays defensive & zones, you’re gonna need help getting in close. If he charges in for a combo, he can be dealt with. When dealing with Skull Head, you gotta expect his Arrows (Aim of Hawkeye) to come at you…from ALL angles. His Horizontal shot can be stopped with a well timed Gamma Wave, but he can push you back with his Diagonal Shot, and ground you from a Super Jump with his Vertical Shot. You’ll need a Beam Assist to disrupt his shots and help give Hulk an opening to Jump-Cancel Dash in. When in close though, hold off on SMASH (standing:h:). Tasky’s Normal Counter easily stops it, and his Hyper Counter (Secret Move) can lead to your health dropping. Instead, go with standing:m:; it comes out quicker than SMASH and you can still cancel into the Launcher for a big Combo. Tasky’s Spinning Sword attack isn’t a priority, as both Hulk’s & :h: attacks have super armor, and the attack only does big damage if it’s blocked. His two Unique Normal Attacks though, Shield Skills & Mighty Swing, can both be SMASH’d. So if you see those attacks coming, don’t hesitate to make him regret it.
Legion Arrow can be countered with Gamma Crush, ESPECIALLY of Taskmaster’s in the air (with no way of X-Factoring out of it). But his Hyper Counter Combo CAN stop Gamma Crush cold. When it’s done, just counter the Counter with Gamma Tornado xx Gamma Tsunami.
Basically, it’s a chore getting close to Taskmaster, and it’s work trying to stay there. But just be dillegent and make him pay with BIG Combos once you get your Green Hands on him. And remember, Beam Assists are your best friend in this fight…
Yeah, this is a tough matchup. If Morrigan comes at you with a j.S, you can beat it with a meaty s.M. If she tears through the armor, you’ve done it too late.
Gamma Wave is essential vs Ammy. It forces her to come in from the air where IMO i think is a big risk for her. Plus she can reflect G. Waves.
For me the Hell match ups for Hulk Morrigan - I do not enjoy fighting with any character and I think she bad for Hulk. Ghost Rider - Armor almost means nothing in this match up, very annoying. And once you get in… "HellFire! HellFire!! HellFire!!" Taskmaster - He knows all my moves, and has an answer for all of them
**Magneto - **Repulsion and Gravitation just made a bad situation even worst.
Patience and slow creeping forward. You can punish a bad j.S with Gamma Charge or Gamma Crush. I think dp Gamma Charge punishes Hellfire spam up close (block one, then try to dp). Your assists will be very important in this matchup.
Morrigan has to be one of the worst matchups for Hulk. Lots of multi-hitting moves, decent mobility, an INVINCIBLE super (stops Gamma Crush punishes on the ground), and large fireballs. I just try to get lucky with an airgrab or punish airdashes.
Taskmaster is annoying because of his j.H. The hitbox on it is HUGE and can hit us crouching. A tough matchup, but feels like an honest 6-4.
Magneto’s keepaway doesn’t get me. His df-dash L, cr.L string kills me. It stops super armor, and is generally just hard to block. A smart player will use his M or H Disruptor so we can’t Gamma Charge through it. I swing like a madman in this matchup, and it seems to work.
