HSF2 AE: HF/ST Zangief Thread

hold towards on the stick… or back, whatever. The lariat DOES move.

The only version that can’t move during lariat is WW Gief.

that is what i was talking about.

If you’re getting anti-aired a lot, stop jumping so much. You should be able to tell when he’s reading your jumps… so learn from that.

He is a shoto, so you automatically have to know about baiting dragon punches, lariating through fireballs, and low punching/lariat the huricane. You also have to know when to hold forward and hit the outstretched arms of the fireballer with the lariat… or stay out because you’re just not close enough to hit him. If you can stay safe midscreen through his FBs, you’ll only risk damage when you get in (good for you) or when he comes to you (good for you).

You’re also zangief, so you have to be able to make it really dumb for him to ever jump at you, because of lariat/jab/s.rh/low punch/sac-throw or -spd. If he’s rushing you down, you just have to get better at your guessing and your spds. Watch out for air-huricane though.

Jump far fireballs with HP, From close you have to lariat. Don’t be afraid to throw a high/not-deep jump-in to beat the normal, especially from far out. If you’re far out, he can’t sac-throw you, but you can land in range to SPD or block. Walk-up spd after far jump-in is funny. If they’re sweep-happy, they should also be getting swept, spun, or even jumped… don’t be afraid to stand up with gief. You’re a beast, and if you get knocked-down you have a wake-up game all your own. Go for knockdown with lariat thru FB/sweep, mix up with spd and pokes. If you can create spd-fear, they might get stupid, risky, and predictable, so you can punish. s.MK is good (but I think better in ST)

However, it would probably be better to think of, “how is he keeping me out?”.

When you walk forward, what happens? Is he all fireballs from afar? Is he guessing your lariats? Are you getting swept a lot? Do you jump too much? Are you not patient enough?

I too get rocked by shotos sometimes, especially if they can keep me out well. But if I can get in a couple times then combo, spd, or force reversal/spd, then they lose it real quick.
